Anyone got any impressive stories of wasps or bees? I can think of a few tales from when I was younger - and my dad trying to kill a massive wasps nest, using a hosepipe and his van exhaust :P
Anyway - Had the council around this morning to deal with a wasps nest, which is sitting just above my front door! :fcuk:
£50 for literally 2 minutes work. :( I'm not sure the spray/powder he put on is killing the blady things either. Its certainly making them angry though :P
Time will tell. :zainy:

Ive never seen a wasp nest either, but when i was younger i used to think they were friendly and try and pat them and stuff, i got stung lots, and i learned my lesson!

there was a wasps nest in my back garden a year or two ago...i heard a trick was to pour petrol down then nest(which was sunk into a grass hill out my back) and just cover it...but me being a knob head decided to set the petrol on fire...this resulted in me bein set on fire....so i "stop/drop/roll" in the proccess i get stung at least 5 times....but eventually i got the flames out and covered the nest and they died!

Nice!!
We had loads of the little buggers annoying us at a family BBQ yesterday, but many of them met their doom.
I've been stung a few times in the past... the worst one was when I was young, we put the tent up at the bottom of the garden... I ran up the garden towards the house and trod on a wasp with bare feet... my foot swelled up like a balloon and I could fit any of my shoes on for a couple of days, so couldn't go to school.

I hate wasps and Bees....When I was at school I walked through the field and stood on a wasp nest had them all round my head. F**k me did I run!! LOL Got stung so many times it was unreal, I blame it on the fact I was holding a Chocolate bar though. So now when ever I hear one buzzing around I run!!

lol Simo. There complete b*stards arnt they. We have a house in france which we went to for 2 weeks from the 15th of July until the 29th.
Wasps and Bees are a right pain over there. We get these flying bee like things which are totally black and around 5 times the size of an average bee. Anyway....on the 3rd night....we were all having a nice meal in the garden and we noticed a tonne of bees going into the wall. Its an old stone cottage btw so loads of gaps in the pointing etc.
My dad goes up the ladder with the old Raid bee/wasp killer. Blasted that into the whole and nothing came out. After like 5 minutes more were going in. Anyway...my dad cemented the whole up but they just went into different ones. So we gave up on the last day. I mean with the ammount of bees going in...we reckon its bigger than 2 or 3 footballs. Think its in the roof like. There a pain in the arse to get rid of aswell.
And about wasps...WELL!!! We had post one morning - i went out to get it. Postman waited for me and handed me the post and was just starring at the post box. So off he tootled and i had a quick peak in the box. Well.....there was an wasps nest that filled the post box. Got my dad on the case...we bout a smoke bomb from the local supermarket :afro:. Stuck that in...waited a few minutes and Boom...they were all dead.
Sorry about the long story ;). Oh....we had flying ants nests aswell in the garden :P. The french arnt bothered about insects nests in their house or garden. Its just the good old British that think there man eating monsters :y:
EDIT: I also saw a few Praying Mantis's - They are fascinating (sp?) lol!

After my friend got stung by two wasps near our local park I decided to take matters into my own hands and went on a vigilante mission.
Armed with a badminton racket I swept through their colony like a hornet, causing havoc and destruction...
...then the f**kers stung the shit out of me.

we had a hornet and a wasp nest at school a few years back. the wasps nest was on a post just behind the football goal, so we did the sensible thing and kicked the football at it and tried to knock it off the post. the hornets nest was in a huge tree so we decided to throw stones at it but it didnt do much as it was so high up it only got hit a couple of times.
i hate the bloody things, last time i was stung i had a big reaction and my leg swelled up. :(

haha thats awesome. Nice idea there mate ;). And what a bees nest. Didnt get any pics of ours i dont think. Just some of the house and that. By the time my parents go back in 2 weeks i reckon it would have grown about twice the size it was when we were there. We cant see the thing though but the ammount of bees going in is ridiculous. We counted how many went in, in 1 minute and it was 93 (no joke). And they just keep coming aswell :n:.
The smoke bomb was the best though. Popped it in...BOOM....shhhhhhh....in 2 mins around 500-1000 wasps dead LOL! The things you can buy in a supermarket over there ;)

i got stung a real lame way when i was a wee nipper, tripped over playing football and i happened to kneel down oon a dead bee and it stung me.
how lame.
i hate the things tho, wasps more so as bees dont mean it as they die once they sting you, but wasps acctually buzz round you to piss you off, then they sting you. b**tards

Q: what is the point in wasps? do they have any direct benefit to the animal world or society?
Or were they just put on the planet to piss every other creature off?
jeeves_101
6th August 2007, 09:39
just to piss everyone off i think.
when they buzz around you, apparently they acctually give off this chemical which makes you flail your arms, so then they have an excues to sting you.

We used to get taught dodgy bible stories in school and one was about bees and wasps.......
They say the devil created wasps to cause havoc on earth and sting everyone for a giggle......then god created bees to take out the wasps....but being god he made it so that once a bee stings it has to die....due to sacrifice its own life for taking the wasps........
I never believed it tbh..........dodgy stories....Noahs ark...animals came 2 by 2 and all played nice.......I dont think so...the lions and tigers would of tore shit up

probably yea lol. Theres loads of weird insects coming over from other countries as climates supposed to be getting warmer etc. (Britain does not go with that statement however).
I mean look at all them Great Whites in the med now. There also down on the south coast of Britain. We never really used to have them and only 1 or 2 in the med. Now they say there are way more - because the water has got warmer so they breed better or something like that.

I got stung on saturday on my finger twice. I didnt see what it was but I presume its a wasp (single un-barbed stinger) as it left two nice needle marks in my finger.
Doesnt look like much but the swelling has gone down abit (thank God)

Jesus f*cking christ Vidal, Simo shoulda hired you instead of the council although by the looks of things you'd probably burn his house down. ;)
Ages ago at a BBQ my sister (about 10 at the time) & a bout 6 others climbed over the back wall into a foresty area beside a golf course, Map (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=eh12&ie=UTF8&ll=55.941618,-3.264366&spn=0.001721,0.005193&t=h&z=18&om=1), & her and one of the other girls tripped on2 a wasp nest which was inside a hollowed out log whilst they were all running through the trees. The 2 of the landed on the nest & destroyed it & everyone who was there got stung at least 10 times. My sister & the girl she was with were in a horrific state though & had 2 go to hospital both had over 50 stings

But anyway, this thing decided to sting me on my knob once, so i screamed and pulled my pants down letting it fly away.....

I was in my grandparents paddock one day and randomly decided to prod this bonfire they were preparing- to my horror a swarm of wasps shot out litterally as they do on cartoons in a big long black line and chased me 100 metres up to the top of the paddock and my grandma had locked the door on the inside to stop me going in whilst she mopped the floor and as i was knocking, they caught up with me and 21 of the little bastards stung me from my neck down to my waist. ouch.

i seem to remember reading somewhere that if you wiped wasps out they would have no impact on the ecosystem of the world.
They eat wood and make their nest out of it, and they have no natural predators.
I remember a lad in school got stung in the ass in a spanish lesson and had to go to the school nurse to get the sting removed from his arse. Had to kneel in lessons for the rest of the week... top class.
