Just fishing about on Wiki searching Dubai then the U.A.E.... I came across the network supply for U.A.E, Etisalat, they supply land line telephone, internet, like BT the main provider out there.
anyway... I found this so weird
Etisalat has blocked thousands of websites on the web due to various reasons; the statement on the "ban screen" states that websites may be banned due to their content contravening the religious, cultural, political, and moral values of the United Arab Emirates. These websites include:
Pornography
The entire Israel TLD (.il)
Certain social-networking websites
Certain media-sharing websites (such as flickr)
Anti-Islamic websites
Certain websites which cover aspects of the United Arab Emirates in a critical manner such as uaeprison.com, hetq.am and arabtimes.com
Anonymous proxy sites
"Some" File-sharing sites (torrents etc.)
Based upon the directions of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the United Arab Emirates, Etisalat blocks some websites, such as VoIP. Skype is one such service blocked by Etisalat. Many see this action as a move to protect the profits of the telecommunications industry.
So they supply a service but block stuff they dont want you to see. Maybe im living in the stone age and everyone knew about this but i have no idea....

The UAE-based operator operates in Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Gabon, Niger, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Pakistan, and the U.A.E.

Iv found hope... Dubai Internet City....
Unlike most of the UAE, DIC's internet is not routed via the country's censorship proxy which blocks access to any content deemed 'inappropriate', as well as technologies like Skype that provide cheap alternatives to the expensive government-run phone companies. However, the Director of the TRA (Telecoms Regulatory Authority) has stated that DIC and the other free zones will be subject to the same censorship as the rest of the country. So far such censorship has not been enacted, possibly because the authorities are aware of adverse impact it would have on the businesses in the zone.

its weird man... not once have i downloaded a virus.
to be fair, i havent either.
i can tell what sort of files might be viruses as ive been into it since napster days.
however saying that, i did once download a file on my computer that would never delete, wasnt a virus or anything, just wouldnt delete. it had the longest file name in the world, something like "pokeman, red, blue, jenna jameson....." always feared it would come up if my dad searched to see if id been downloading das porn.

Don’t believe that... The government would close down the site first before takign any legal action, and even then he hasn’t done anything wrong... so I smell BS
Web censorship happens everywhere
