That's really bad news mate. If I were you, i'd try to be your MOT somewhere else and hope no one spots it.
You're looking at a new rear axle I'm afraid. :(

You mean a rear trailing arm? Why don't you just get it done at the MOT place, as they will know what it is...
EDIT - ignore that - do what toad said :y:

right have been on the blower to the garage that failed my vtr.....
he reckons that its the bearing in the trailing arm where it meets the axle.......
is that good or bad (well i say good i know its not GOOD) he qouted £150 as long as its a straight forward job (which it never is) so are things looking up abit?????

Hmm... I would try another MOT station 1st off. That sounds fishy, as most places wont touch the rear axle with a barge pole!!!

yh was thinking of it have gotta do a few other things then might try it could be worth the £40 lol instead of £150+
is it gunna be dangerous tho if he IS right???
he also failed it on power steering which some ppl think he shuldnt of??? its not leaking just doesnt work?? any ideas?

Definately another opinion required I reckon!
You can check the play yourself. Jack up the car so that the 'dodgy' wheel is off the ground. See if you can move the wheel in a 'toe-in / toe-out' motion. If it moves, there's play there.
Anyway, £150 would be a steal to get that work carried out... Honestly, I don't know anywhere that would touch a rear axle.
