I drive 375 miles a week in my car which costs about £30 assuming i poodle along at 65 on the motorway. This week however it has cost me £45!!. I could literally see my petrol gauge going down every mile i did. I have checked the tank and cannot find a leak anywhere.
Recently i have changed the idle control valve for a second hand one and also put on a brand new Cat/ the cat was bout a month ago and the valve bout two weeks ago. The cat was brand new from unipart/partco.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Wow, that's good mileage!
It's possible a lamda sensor is sending incorrect signals to the ECU, making the car run rich, or the MAP sensor can do this commonly too.
I doubt those changes you mention could effect the MPG...

I prob should have mentioned that the engine management light is ON. Have done a diagnotsic and it came up with two errors, Idle control valve (which i then replced) and the second was 'Cat below efficiency, Bank 1'. This was AFTER i had replaced the cat so i dont see how its below efficency when its brand new. The blokw in the garage said bank 1 referrs to the lambda sensor on the downpipe, but im not sure i believe him. Seemed like a bit of a cowboy.

I'd believe it to be honest...
if the lambda is shagged then you're going be experiencing issues bruv.

40 quid gets you 200miles?! have you got hummer or something? you do realise that in a saxo that equates to about 20 mpg?! even if it was a vts that would be shocking mpg.....do you drive everywhere in 1st or what?

i get 100 mile to £10 in a vts not being shy. sounds like the cat if the engine management light is on. that only usually comes on if the cat is f'd or theres no cat in. more lights on the dash the better lol

I spend about £15 a week if I'm lucky! Sometimes I may not fill up for 2 weeks sometimes. I do about 250 miles a week.

Cheers for the advice.
Think im gonna replace the lambda sensor on the downpipe. You would think that the diagnostic would be inelligent enough to flash up 'Lambda sensor shagged' as opposed to 'Cat below efficency' and make you guess whether its the cat or the sensor?.
