hows it goin ;)

got a 1.1 spi

went to check my oil today and just pottering about.....

lifts my oil cap to find some lovly part synthetic cottage cheese on the cap :ill: felt like spewing..... looks like a head gasket to me... though the car has never overheated.....

so.... i think becuase it has never overheated... though it is running a little hotter than usual(not to much) i should be able to get away with just getting the gasket done..... shouldnt need getting the head skimmed.....

though i was starting to see tell tale sighns i.e some white smoke untill the engine has heated up and some little oil weeps running down the block.....

so... i think i should be fine getting the gasket done.... i know it is not uncommon on the saxos/106's.....

just the questions are...... how much will it cost roughly all in..... and what could have caused it to go.... i know overheating int the issue.... do they just go with just wear and tear....

pls help and rep will go to any advice..... unless i have to spread the love :)

Cheers!

had the same problm and it cost £250 to get sorted and that was free laber aswell (due to the other half working for skoda ) and you probly will need it re skiming aswell looking at 500ish depending what damage has been done inc laber

ahh. Head gasket set you can pic up for around £20/£30 if that. thats including you exhaust manifold gaskets ect. if your doin it yourself then it shouldnt cost much more than that, unless you have oil in your cooland aswell, then jus more collant will be needed. Also oil will help lol. If your not doing it yourself then youl just have to shop around with labour charges. Wouldnt think it would be more than 4-5 hours labour. hope this helps:y:

Also. your head gasket would have just failed due to many things. One not being overheating like you say. just happens due to weak, thin gaskets. if you get your head skimmed then you will be able to have a modified gasket, which is usually made up of 2 or 3 sheets of metal which will last a lot longer.

may just be caused by condensation dont panic to you get it checked. look at the dip stick to see if its the same there

have looked at the stick and there is no bulid up there rite enuf....

bit only noticed for 1st time lst nite nd the oil was checked on thursday and there was no probs then..... will get the coolant dipped to see if there are any carbons in the water... that will answer my questions.....

Thanks all and rep is on its way :D

i'd recommend skimming the head just to be safe. depending on who you know, it could cost anyhtign between £200 and £500 to have head gasket done. try wiping the stuff off the filler cap and see if it comes back. Also you can sometimes see oil on the left hand side of the head by the alternator. thats how i knew mine had gone

Hey,
I know its not a saxo but my girlfriends corsa recently had this problem i got worried to start thinking head gasket gone, but i used the car for the weekend gave it a good run up and down the M6. When i got back i rechecked the oil for gunky crap and well it was gone. I put this down to my girlfriend only doing a very low mileage and short journeys. So be worth taking the car for a long blast if the car actually feels ok.

Also i have heard of blocked breather pipes causing this creamy stuff.

Hope this helps.

My car didnt have gunky stuff on the filler cap, it ran perfectly fine too for thousands of miles. If its seeping out of the head by the alternator, unfortunately your gasket has gone. sorry bud

well my car had headgasket leak from about 25k, got it changed at about 115k lol when it started actually dripping on the ground. Just make sure you check your oil level regulary and also i'd recommend havonh it skimmed just to be save tbh. if not you run the risk of having to replace the head gasket again = more monies. this happened to my friend with his 106.

Bumpety dump...
Just looking through this and seeing all the sguesstions to get the head skimmed "just in case".
Get the head skimmed ONLY if you have to, and it takes off the hardened surface of the metal and raise compresson slightly. You can check to see if the head needs doing by using a flat edge, i.e a rule to see it its warped. If not then dont bother. You said its never overheated so its very unlikely that it'll need doing.

ScottG17

yeah... its all sorted now.... didnt need skimmed.... £230 all in so not bad.....but they did recommend a new radiator as its a bit blocked because some dumb fuck put radweld in :err:... so thats another 75 quid... gettin tonight.... car is now going like a dream though.....

are the saxos hard to bleed??? wots the best way to bleed the water system because the mechanic that did it says its quite tricky.....
i can fit the rad no probs though :)
