Got mine sorted today, only took 10 minutes :)
I unclipped the leather gaitor on the gearstick and unscrewed the single torx head screw which allows the bottom section of the dashboard to be removed.

Tried adding a little grease to the top of the ball joint to no avail. Instead, I unbolted the 4x 10mm nuts allowing the plastic gear surround to be lifted out.

It's then just a case of getting a bit of grease on your finger (ooo er) and doing the underside of the ball joint inside the plastic surround.

It's also worth coating the main pivot on the linkage as this could be equally to blame for the squeaking.
Put it all back together and the jobs a goodun - happy (silent) shifting :y:
