Morning troops,

What diagnostic tools do you guys use?
I bought an ELM327 OBDII tool off ebay a while ago and only just got round to having a shot a couple days ago but i cant get it working so im assuming my single plug is too old?

I gather that the saxo uses the ISO protocol, can anyne else shed any more light on how it works?

Cheers (",)

ive got one aswell but ive never used it. but i read in the book that you plug it in turn the key but not start it and it powers up. if its not powering up it might be to old , but im not sure? sorry can`t give you better info

i was told from the citroen garage that depending on the age of ur saxo it doesn't work on the earlier ones as ecu has some type of lock that stops u from getting in has to be a citroen one to work

hi it does depend on the age of the car it will work on 97 and above which is the iso protocall what you have to do is.

plug your scantool into the diagnostics socket and your laptop/p.c turn your ignition on till dash lights come on. then load the program you want to run to find the dtc's if it fails to load go into the communications section on the settings on the program and make sure the braud rate is set to 9600 (that's the speed of the cummunication between the car and the interface) the later cars are capeable on running on the faster speed. if you still have problems reply back and ill give you my email address or give me yours and i can help further.

for free software try:

Digimoto Lite - http://www.digimoto.com/
wODB - http://www.werner-digital.com/obd/software.html
ScanTool - http://www.scantool.net/?mode=browseSoftware
OBD2Spy - http://www.obd2spy.com/
OBD-DIAG - http://www.er-forum.de/obd-diag-dl/index.php
EasyObdII_v2 - http://www.easyobdii.com/downloads.php
OBD Logger - http://pages.infinit.net/jsenk/obd.htm
Mac OSX / Linux - http://www.cs.unm.edu/~donour/cars/pyobd/
OBD Gauge PalmOS - http://www.qcontinuum.org/obdgauge/

and if you want a really good scantool CHEAP:
go on scantool.net just say daniel passenger recommended you and they'll look after you i bought one last year and it works on every single car i've done and it has surge protection which is very good because in some cases when aftermarket car stereos are fitted if the wiring configuration is wrong it can send a power surge back to pin 7 on the diagnostic socket and it has been known to fry the interface/ damage the chip.

hope this helps regards danny:A:

Cheers for the reply, i've tried most of the free tools already, its the scantool.net tool which tells me it cant connect to the ECU & i had a look through their forums too and it seems theres a few saxo/106 owners on there who couldnt get it working. It seems to work with the 3plug ECU (2001 onwards)

Mine is a 2000 model, have you had one working with a saxo? which year/model?

I found on scantool it only has options for 7 com ports, and my laptop set the elm as com 8, so went into device manager and set it as com 2. then it works
