Hey, my sax just failed its MOT for 3 reasons and i was wondering if anybody could advise me on what to do about them.

1) The back number plate bulb was out (obviously i know how to fix this one)

2) The wheels rub against the wheel arches when it is at full lock because it has been lowered

3) The Front lights dont aim properly.

Now i know that you can do something about the second one and i know how to adjust the aim of the front lights (Morette's MK1), all i dont know is what needs to be cut away for no. 2 and where do my lights have to aim (no funny jokes i know that it is forward) to be able to pass its MOT?

Any info would be brill

Right firstly how low are you?
As you may need to have your car highered, have you removed your arch liners?
With the lights problem get an MOT centre to adjust them for you:y: I had mine done for 3quid

How big are the wheels fella, can you not put smaller wheels on so they dont rub?

its been lowered 50mm front and back, i think the wheel liners are still there. Thing is i know people who have it much lower and there fine. I need to see about the lights, i think i'd rather spend £3 getting them done. My gf has gone to see how much he quotes.

On standard lights, they have alen key screws on the back. Drive it close to a wall and turn the screws to adjust them so they are both level on the wall. The drivers side should be dipped and the passenger side should go higher up the wall. If its wrong you dazzle oncoming traffic and thats why it fails the mot because of it. There is a proper way of doing it with a machine but i dont know that way and you have morette's and im not 100% sure it will make it pass. so best just taking it to a garage :)

Just had a look and scattered beams from the headlight also make it illegal, so you might be as well wacking you old standard lights (if you still have them) on for the re-test as the morette's might be scattering the light.

na i found a solution to this last night, there were three screws attached to springs at the back of them (i knew this because i had to fit one side of them the other week). I managed to get the lights in order now so they are around the same level, i'll put it a bit lower later as it is that simple to do.

Re: the wheels the guy at the testing station said that i could put smaller wheels on it when i take it back and then swap them back over after he has passed it. I will do this but i dont want to go through the trouble of having to do this everytime my car needs an MOT.

Anyone taken out the wheel lining and is this legal? Is it easy to do?
