chassis number?

where abouts would i find the chassis number on...
both mk1 and mk2 vtr & vts?
going to view a car and want to know where to find them?
is it the number at the top of the engine bay like in my mk2 vtr?

there's also the VIN plate rivitted to the inside of the boot , open the boot and look on the inside of the panel which is near your knee caps if you get my drift
