If you have a few other drives in My Comp, IE Mapped network drives, other USB pens, Card readers etc. Then when you plug in a USB pen it assigns itself a drive letter which is likely to be used already by one of the other drives.

To change the drive letter, or to rule out this as a cause for youre USB pen being invisible. Right click my computer and go to Manage;

This is the computer management console, pretty handy...

Here you will see youre USB drive and other drives. Find it and check the letter, if it is a duplicate change it.

Right click the drive and click change letter.

Give it a new letter thats not used already.

Click Ok, oK, OK, ok.

Now youre USB pen should start being detected. If not buy a new PC from PC world with warranty and some optional extras.

How does your USB pen drive use the same drive letter as another fixed or mapped drive? Thats impossible.

In my vast years in IT i've never seen that, but would never rule anything out if it has Micro$oft plastered all over it!!!

Does happen with network drives. At work we have a login script which runs when users login to the domain and maps the drives for the servers near their location. They then plug USB pens in and it tries to use the G: drive, which is already in use as a network drive. We then have to do as Ste_1 above says and change the letter to one not in use.
