I bought a 1200w sub and a 480w amp a week ago and i've recently bought the wiring etc.
Last night i tried to wire it up;
power cable through fuse and into amp;
earth to car frame
wiring from amp to sub
wiring output cables from cd player to amp.
But i dont get any power from the amp to power the sub.
There is definately a current coming from the battery because i've tested it using one of them gizmo's..
So what can be the problem other than a faulty Amp?
Cheers Guys !

have you connected the blue remote wire to back of headunit? this provides the signal from the headunit to power the amp!

If you havent got a decent earth it will not power up. Also if you havent put in the remote lead it wont work either. You can put a wire from the Remote on the amp to the 12v on the amp and put a switch in the middle to turn it on and off. Not ideal but it works.

If your head unit doesn't have a remote connector on the back, you can tap into your head unit's power cable instead... it's the same difference - just more hassle... Also I found it was the earth causing my problems - at first I tried connecting the earth to the screw holding the rear lights in place... i thought "It's touching metal so it must work" - it didn't, so I used to bolt that holds the rear seats in place instead - Success :D........
p.s Using a switch is far from the best idea, if you forget to turn it off, you're fucked - dead battery :P - plus it means more work.... housing the switch....getting a switch.... more wiring....

on the amp its usually marked up remote. so connect one end of the wire there and the other end to the remote wire on the sterio. usually a blue wire or blue/white. should tell you on your sterio somewhere what each connection is

make sure you use speaker wire for the remote wire as if you use cooper wire (used for wiring lights up etc.) then the signal is not carried through as the wire is too dense

i was going to use the thin blue cable i was sent in the wiring package.
on my head unit there is no terminal from a remote cable. Unless i'm missing something.
Its the sony xplod HU, should it have one?

there won`t be a connection on the headunit itself. you have to cut the blue wire on the sterio wiring loom and join the remote wire from the amp in with the wire you cut. so say that the wire you cut has to be joined back together the way it was , but the remote wire will also be connected in with the wires. the remote wire on your sterio will either be blue or blue/white. it should tell you on the sterio somewhere what the wires are. cheers

check fuses
check earth is good
check all wires
check all connections
the remote wire you could always wire into a switched live if you cant find the remote wire on the headunit, id fit a switch though so you can turn the amp off and on with the keys in as you wont want the amps running all the time :y:
