OK the diff fu*ked in my gear box and both driveshafts have gone. I have got the two driveshafts but cant seem to get a VTR gear box anywhere. I just rang manic motors and he said i could get a 1.1i gearbox and it will drop straight in. Is this right?do i need to change anything? help need asap cheers :y:

Steer clear of 1.1 gear boxes. Either get a 1.4 XSI, VTS / 106 GTI, or your same VTR model box.
Use the search function to learn about the gear boxes above, and why I have mentioned them. Basically, they will all fit stright in, and the 1.4 XSI and VTS / 106 GTI boxes will be a better gear box (for a sportier drive) for you IMO.

a 1.1 box will go straight in yes.
All gearbox are same fittings, bellhousing etc.
Only difference, is gear ratios.
If you can mate, get hold of a VTS/GTi box and whack that in!
Far better for acceleration.
Try findapart.com. They sourceed one for me many moons ago.. no 2 infact!! lol

The 1.1 gearbox is different from the other gear boxes I have mentioned. As said already, steer clear of them.
The other gear boxes actually have the same ratios. It's the final drive that's different. If you want to learn more about this, do a search, as i've written a lot about it in the past...

The diff is certainly weaker. I'm not 100% on other parts.

the 1.1 box will give u better lift, but your car will just eat engine mounts and gearbox mounts like its the armageddon!!
also after a very short while, as toad said, it will sh*t the diff!!!!

mate just get a 1.1 box....there just as tough as any other box out there....
you will get better acceleration but lose around 5-10mph top end....
also remember to take off you original speedo sensor from your vtr box and put it in your replacement otherwise you get dud readings on the tacho...
