Oh Hai!

I like lying inbetween boobies:

So I DJ. Im not on BBC Essex with magical controlling rules.

Arrrrgh I be on a Pirate.

A Pirate you say?
When you DJ on a pirate, there are three rules.

1. Never use your rea name.
2. Dont say where the studio is.
3. Dont talk to Demitri.

Those are the rules. The third one i never understood but went along with it.

Then i met the dude. no lies, my face:

Tbh, you wouldnt want to buy the Big Issue off this guy let alone talk to him.

But if its all so dodgey, why do it?

The only way i can describe it is with a reference to Jenna Jameson.

(God that took time to find one with her clothes on)

Anyway. In her hay day everyone would put their penis in that.

Even though it probably had AIDS, and ment you'd have to rub the side for any sensation.

It didnt matter, purely because you had sex with Jenna Jameson.

Pirates are the same, you do it for the buzz.
Mismatching turntables, a dodgey mixer and a little hi-fi that youcant turn up loud incase some one hears you.

Its pure magic and to anyone that can beatmatch, go give it a go :)

Just dont tell my Nan.

I broadcast on various stations but its only FM thatis illegal.

To broadcast legally you need to have a license for FM.
This is like gettinga driving license and costs about £15k to apply for.

The way a typical pirate FM station works is you have one of 4 studios.

The DJ turns up to one of thses studios.
the mixer in that studio is connected to a piece of kit called an RDS encoder.

This adds "RadioStationFM" text to the signal which then connects to a microwave link.

this sends a signal from the studio mixer over to a microwave receiver.

(usually on a tower block, water tower etc)

This receiver converts microwaves to audio (phono connection standard stuff)

The signal then goes into an FM board and is sent through the airwaves to your car radio.

Theres more gear involved - compressors etc but thats the jist of it.

Internet Radio is easier because its easier to be legal.

Its a case of plugging decks into a pc.
    install some software.
    hit conenct.

    job done :)

    internet sounds simple enough then

had a play on my mates mixer the other week, had it hooked up to play music from the computer and mix using the decks, seemed pretty cool.

Internet radio is the future until DAB kits become easier to get hold of.

    Practice makes perfect

If it's illegal to broadcast on FM, what legislation is in place to cover DAB???

What i ment 180 is that FM is being listened to less and less as stations mve over to DAB and equipment moves that way.

Soon (Mercedes and BMW have concepts) you can drive and surf the net via voice command.

This would mean internet stations can easily stream to what was originally an FM Audience.

The difference between DAB/FM and internet radio is that you can "come across" an DAB/FM frequency when looking for a station.

The internet though, you need to know the URL of the site you want to listen to. Or sit on google for a while.

    Thats what i ment. i think. x
