MOT fail

Right as I expected my car failed it's MOT. Oddly it broke the emissions machine. Quite annoyed i got my report sheet back and there was only one fail and it was "emissions failure"

Due to a leak at the inlet the car is idling all over the shot and the car is pushing in more fuel that it needs.. although I am getting very good mpg.

So what does this mean for my car? The garage currently have my car and are working on the inlet to find the leak, myself and rickyP couldn't find it however but we'll soon see if the garage sort it and get it through the emissions. I left the car at 1pm I will check on at them at 4:30pm.

Hopefully it won't set me back too much and I'll be having a few more days happy driving

Fingers crossed for you.

Its well annoying being in these kind of situations. Best hope the garage dont bill you stupid amounts for simple work too!

Cheers Rush, I rang them a moment ago but the tester said he'd give me a call back when he gets a moment free.

Despite how nice it is having such a poppy exhaust it's not good on the head to get so much petrol being pushed in. I just want the engine running as sweetly as possible as it's not exactly standard atm :y:

Out of interest were you on the m6 on saturday heading northbound near birmingham? I saw a caged black 106 so immediately thought of you. It was around 6pm.

rushy_23 16th September 2009 17:05

What exhaust is it on there at the moment? Its hard to get the perfect balance right but Im sure you could try something else if need be?
That inlet definatly needs sorting either way!

This saturday just gone I dont think it was me. But I am regularly up and down the M6 of late. Have been really lazy and taking the 106 to work.

It's a supersprint cat back system. I can live without popping for a good solid engine. At the end of the day an inlet's not the most expensive bit of kit and thats certainly whats causing the issues. Tbh I should have just bought lee's s1 rallye inlet off him when I thought about it.. ;)

Certainly looked like the rushmobile didn't check wheels though, it was near the 50mph section, hence why I managed to grab a glimpse of the other side of the road :y:

As long as the inlet issue gets resolved. Is the S1 inlet proven to be worth while?

That definatly sounds like it could have been me. Who knows lol!

Luke 16th September 2009 21:00

Did he actually call you back mate?

Hope you manage to get it sorted, I can't wait to see the update too.

As for the S1 inlet in theory it should provide a decent gain on the engine but I will put it off whilst the inlet issue gets sorted.

Car must drive itself nowadays rushy ;)

He didn't annoyingly... I'll ring him at 9am I told him to ring me before they started work so I knew costs etc. the last thing I want is them going "oh we finished the work that'll be £300" my immediate response would be... ":fcuk: for what exactly?"

It's a shame you didn't see the update when i was with ricky on sat :y: Tom/viper saw the car before work began and I had a nice ride in the new car smelling fiesta. I'm sure you'll see the car soon :A:

rushy_23 18th September 2009 15:46

That may actually be the case, my cars closely related to Kit. ;)

shooorn94 24th September 2009 15:21

Awaiting inectors.

Actually installed the Red lights behind the grille then rush? ;)

Little update.

Orderred new injectors... Injectors?... Plural?.. For an SPI? hmmm...
And eurocarparts are taking a decade in deliverring. So I'm still car less at the moment but once the new injectors are in it'll solve my fueling/emissions issue :y: Bascially the metal clip at the bottom of the injector was snapped/all the o-rings had fallen into the cylinder so new injectors were required.. tbh I was a bit foolish buying brand new injectors, but I do my best to buy the best stuff.

Should have the car back via the weekend with a fresh MOT and a year ahead of *touch wood* trouble free motoring.

Oh and a random pic to keep you entertained ;)

Big update!

Okay thought I'd update the progress thread as the majority of the west mids now know what has happened to the car.

Back in August my renewal papers had come through for my insurance, I began to ring around asking how much an engine conversion would set me back for either the S or R. With nine times out of ten the S being double my insurance as it was before I realised the running costs were too high for me, but I was aching for more power. After conferring with a few close mates I bought an silvertop singleplug vtr engine on 58k.

The engine was a minter, I got everything else sorted out (shafts, fuel pump fuel lines etc.) and headed up to Ricky P for the work, met up with Viper and had a good day out ;)

The car was totally different when I picked it up, ran a bit lumpy but the jump in power was worth it... on the drive to Birmingham from barnsley it ran really well, if just a bit rich! The fuel filter jumped off in brum spilling fuel everywhere... but that has been the only hiccup! The car failed it's MOT due to the injectors being nackered, new injectors orderred and it went through fine.

Yesterday I had the car on the rollers with the west mids.. the engine made:

85.9bhp at the wheels
96.6lbft at the wheels

102.4bhp at the fly
107.6lbft at the fly.

So with just an S1 downpipe, supersprint cat back (with cat) and green panel filter I was quite impressed, the graph was pretty good too, the engine does seem very strong and I'm quite happy!

Anywho since then, I've been tidying the bay up and sprayed the rocker peugeot Steel grey and the same for the mani cover and thats about that ;)

The engine's running a bit lean but I reckon that's down to the FPR. We'll see though, either way it's running very well, and I've already done around 4k miles! :A:
