Dimmer switch on a mk1 is below the steering column. same sort of roller switch as the headlight adjusters.

Lol yeah course :p the rest look mint apart from that 1 thats knockin the other 2 out (2 are still origional green LEDs)

Chris_Mac 4th November 2007 21:34

right im attempting this tommorrow, had a look today and i have no idea how to get the dials out, i can see the two screws i need to get out, but i have no way of getting them done!

its a mk2 vtr, anyone have any ideas on how to get it out?

carlos45 4th November 2007 21:46

i took steering wheel off and all screws where reachable, might be an easier way though...

Chris_Mac 5th November 2007 00:15

disconnect battery and remove the steering wheel then??

did you bother disconnecting the airbag module?

if so where is it located?

Saint 5th November 2007 08:47

air bags connected to the seat pre tensioners, funnily enough was reading up on pulling mine off last night lol

think the connector is located under or behind centre console. but they reckon you wait 5 mins after disconnecting that wire before you pull it off too.

my mates good at soldering so may give this a go :d

carlos45 8th November 2007 22:42

yeah just disconnect battery, leave it about 10-15 mins for good measure, then unscrew the steering wheel. the airbag just pulls off after you've unscrewed it. this is mine, i preferred the display green tbh,

Chris_Mac 11th November 2007 23:19

tried it today, none worked, but theyr all on the correct way, not at all happy

you definately have them round the right way??

they work in series of 3 so if one doesnt work then the other 2 in that series wont either, do your sidelights work??

yes lad the sidlights work, and the rest of the lights work, the one at the temp gage works, but the ones behind the milage screen dont work and the milage screen wiring has come off

how can it be stuck on again?

Predator_R32 12th November 2007 00:05

so the strip cable connector is buggered on the mileometer???

Chris_Mac 12th November 2007 00:07

yea, the mileometer is currently off the board, it came clean off, the contact are in tack and thankfully didnt rip or break, just needs put back on

predator have you msn??

if so please add me, chris2_hoi@hotmail.com

TU-Tuning 12th November 2007 00:07

New dials then tbh mate. Seriously tricky soldering to get that back on

Predator_R32 12th November 2007 00:08

yeah mate cant really do anything else except get some new ones

Chris_Mac 12th November 2007 00:10

can i just get a board from another car and plug it in?

is the milage stored somewhere in the car, or on the actual board?

Predator_R32 12th November 2007 00:12

nah i think its stored on the actual circuit board mate, so changing th board wont do owt

TU-Tuning 12th November 2007 00:13

Everyones got a different opinion on that mate.

My dials have been nothing but trouble since i did this, i have a second hand dial set but i dont wanna fit em incase the mileage goes mental.

Some say it adds the mileages, some say it uses the one on the newly fitted board, some say it just uses the higher of the two. I havent got the balls to find out which is true tbh

Chris_Mac 12th November 2007 00:16

so what can be done then?

TU-Tuning 12th November 2007 00:17

Iv just learned to live with my dodgy tachometer for now. Eventually ill prob fit some new ones and get citroen to change the mielage which will prob cost a shit load

Lozza_vtr 12th November 2007 00:19

Just replace the clocks with other set. Then get a mileage correction guy to come out and change the mileage to its original reading.

Chris_Mac 12th November 2007 00:23

ill have another look tomorrow, i have a mate who is breaking his vts, so i can get the dials handy enough.

wish i hadnt started trying to change LEDs

TU-Tuning 12th November 2007 00:28

Same here mate. Some people seem to be fine, some people have loads of issues

Lozza_vtr 12th November 2007 00:29

That is what has put me off doing this mod, just in case anything goes wrong. But there is always crazyleds who i could contact that would do the work for me, he sold loads of stuff on vvoc that i use to be a member of.

Crazy

just add me to your msn and ill talk tomorrow as im off to bed soon mate :y:

Chris_Mac 12th November 2007 23:55

right i got a set from a VTS today, petrol gauge is in the middle, whereas my original one was on the right hand side

plugged it in, works perfectly so far! temp rises, as does the petrol gauge, nothing through the oil temp, but im not gonna start playing with that

roll on MOT tomorrow

TU-Tuning 12th November 2007 23:56

what about the mileage mate?

on mk2's you can change the dials as it holds the millage on the clock circuit baord, so if you ahve a mk2 vts with 60k on the clock and you buy some mk2 vts clocks with 45k on them when u fit them in it will display the 45k millage, the reason that we say it adds them together is because some manufacturers cars do do that but on saxos it dont and also we dont want it to be public knowedge as people will start clocking there cars more

TU-Tuning 13th November 2007 00:20

Ah i see, how much does it cost to get the mileage corrected Steve? My spare dial set has 35k on it and the cars on 69k so theyll need changin

best person to get to do it is someone out the back of auto trader they can do it for £30, if u get citroen to do it they will charge u £75 and most dealerships wont even do it unless you have bought the new clocks brand new from them, and just so you know new clocks are £392 from citroen

Chris_Mac 15th November 2007 13:04

im getting them fixed next week, £40 to get the digital milage correction done

i had 90k on the car, it now says 40708 so its definately getting fixed

The_Notorious_C_A_T 25th November 2007 22:09

Finished doing this today. Looks the business.
