|

|
i think i will be trying this out shortly...nice one
|
i know it's old but do maplin even sell these LED's?don't think they do. if they do anyone got a link?
|
luks the nuts..!
do mine :) pleeeeeease |
|
there the ones mate :y:
|
i received my LEDs today in the post, just out of interest i know they are a straight swop but which end is positive and which negative??
|
not a straight swap, the cut off on the corner determines the positive
please take not when you remove the old led first on which way the cut off on the corner is at, i usuallu do a little sketch, square with the corner shaded in |
really good work there mate. ill give you 20pounds to do mine :)
|
pred can youremember which 1s you got as theres 3 different types i have found
600mcd 1800 mcd 2500mcd ?? thankyou :) |
got mine off ebay mate
but recently fitted these ones in someone elses car and they were fine http://www.rapidonline.com/Electroni...20mount%20LEDs |
legend thankyou :)

also do you have any tips or pointers that i may find usefull?? the bulbs are 500mcd, they will look good right? cheers |
yeah mate they should be fine, they will probablies be quite bright actually, but remember you can dim them
only pointers is to test the led after you have soldered one in, do one at a time, take one off put one on, you can easily tell which ones you havent done because they will be neat :p when doing round the ribbon connectors be very careful you can easily burn them |

ok thanks for that, iv just been told that mark1 dials arent these leds???? is this true???? what bulbs are they if not these plcc smd helppppp pleaseeeeeeeeeeee:wall: |

How easy is this to do?
It looks amazing but to me it seems theres to much that could go wrong. Has anyone done this succesfully that has no experience with soldering or electricals, if so would you recomend giving it a bash? Cheers |
forgot to add:
Is soldering easy? How risky is it removing the needles? Is it tricky removing the dials from the dashboard? |

i have some of the LEDS you need if you want to buy? iv got 50 and their all red. |
Will be looking at the blue ones if i go ahead
Did you have any trouble changing them yourself? |
that looks well good mate
|
hmmm might give this ago.
thx |
i guna try but i jst worried about taking airbag off for some mad reason i think its going to blow up in my face :(
|
Im worried about removing the needles and the soldering, how hard is it?
|
no mate i baught the leds for my mark1 but found out that they are bulbs instead so i have no need for the leds now, soldering isnt hard if you have done it before id recommend getting a circuit board out of sumthing old and broken for example a 'cd player' and just have a go at first removing solderd peices then soldering them back on. practise makes perfect.
also 'saxo1chavcar1' just disconnect the battery before you start, by the time you have taken the first few torx screws out the airbag will be fine...i took mine out whiloe the battery as still live, you just need to be gentle with it:y: |
done mine today
thanks for the guide mate :) |
Did you find it easy enough?
Was there any part you found difficult or awkward? |

Did you have any difficulties changing them? |
just changed mine aswell look the nuts!
not the easiest of jobs for people like we who are accident pron lol dont bother thaking the steering wheel off just take the bottom plastic cover off and in between all the wires are 3 bolts loosen them and the whole steering column comes loss much easier! the the LEDs are well close to everyting on the circuit board aswell so i got some else to solder them lol well worth doing though! |
I just done this today too, used 800mcd SMD's instead of the 600mcd ones so came out ultra bright!
Gonna do the rest of the dash within the next couple of weeks, il poss post how to thread linked from my progress thread as I havent seen any yet for the other lights!? Removing the steering column bolts is a much easier way of doing this apart from the 2 screws in the base of the speedo surround are still a bit*h to get out! Heres some piccys! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
looks very nice Lippy, im wanting to do this but really don't fancy doing it myself lol as i know i will probably break something or fuck something up :(
Is there anywhere i could take it too that might do it? Cheers |

For the change in color and the cost to get a mechanic or a car audio shop to do it for you its not worth it to be honest! would end up costing more than £100 I should imagine! If you were going to get it done then id try and remove it myself and take the speedo surround to an ICE installer, get them to pull it apart following the instructions on here do the leds and put it back together again, then fit it back in the car yourself! |
I have shut my dedicated server down today so i have had to transfer the pics from my first post to a photobucket account so that everyone still has access to the guides, can someone just confirm to me if they can see the pics in the first post. cheers
|
Ye, all works fine!
|
Quality mate, soooo much cheaper than the plasma dials! Maybe a bit more intense work but well worth the effort!

Cheers for another great guide steve! Just need to find somewhere/someone who will make me some heater dial inserts so that it actually lights up blue rather than the green i still have with the blue led's :( |
