Tried doing this to my Mk1's.

PROBLEMS
-When uncliping the casing, there is a screw holiding it all into place at the top, at the intercators.

-You have to unscrew every indivual dial to get to the bulbs

- Bulbs are BIG LEDs, not the tiny ones like on here

- No Circuit bored, its burried on the back of the cluster

- LEDS are cliped into place.

Mark1 9th June 2009 21:17

Wow, I love that blue light effect :D

Good work.

hazzer321 9th June 2009 21:43

looks shit hot m8, can u buy any LED or do you need certain ones?

GTJames 9th June 2009 22:42

Hmm, now im wondering what other colours are out there I can use. Btw how many LEDs did you need to buy?

Matty_VTR 9th June 2009 22:53

the leds you need are: SMD PLCC-2 LEDs

you can get quite a few different colours for them.. iv got a spare set of dials that Im think about doing UV/Purple.

14 just to do them number (15 for a VTS/GTi)

then additional ones if you want to do headlight/indicators etc.

VTRelite 9th June 2009 23:06

are there different leds between mk1 and 2 vtrs?

The mark 1 dials dont use LEDs.. they use standard bulbs but the dial facias have colored filters in them.

matt89 10th June 2009 15:47

i would definately fuck that up lol

I'm guessing the bulbs are only standard 12v ones though so could you not replaced them with LEDs instead?

I'll be ripping my dash / dials out next week so till them I'm kinda shooting blind.

you can replace them will LEDS, but will need to run a 12v live to the leds and use resistors as well. I THINK you can also replace them with these http://www.crazyleds.co.uk/crazyleds...-1-pr-159.html. But you will also have to replace the dial facias because they have green filters.

Marcus000 23rd June 2009 19:48

Cheers Matty, last question, do I need to remove the dash to get at the dials or something? :-S

Just been out and had a look at mine and can't see how to get them out.

Found 2 screws which hold the outer plastic dash cover in place and one more near the top but still can't get the unit out. :(

Heeeeeeeeeelp!
