If you build the engine with this head then someone with more knowledge than you will notice at the trackside and you will get pulled up disqualified. You can get points on your race licence, fines, banned from racing etc etc. Ignorance is not a crime but its not a defence either. You are paying a company to make you an engine. Make sure they have a full understanding of what is required. They obviously are not clear at the moment. Its at the stage you can fix it without difficulty.

I'm not sure how much cylinder head removal will be going on race-side. Maybe if he's winning by a country mile, but is this kind of thing even worth doing?

I'm not an expert, but that 'prohibited' cylinder head actually looks worse to my eyes than the mk1 one. More inlet valve shrouding and greater clearance volume stands out first of all. Probably a little better exhaust valve flow but that's not going to give you much performance. Also the sharp edges around the spark plug make my blood boil but it's not the first time I've seen them so someone with a flow bench somewhere must like them.

It wouldnt be banned if it werent a performance enhancement.... Its not just the head the intake manifold and airbox is different...

manic 20th June 2013 19:37

There is an easy way of spotting it the black top and early silver are 00-00 port spacing and have a ali throttle body. the later silver top is 0-0-0-0 spacing and the inlet manifold and throttle body are all in one plastic

Also easily visible checking the different castings by lifting the rocker cover, casting stamps and so on

DavidTaylor 20th June 2013 21:44

Well Andrew Tibbs be ready to give up the number 28 next year cause im having it :) see you all soon if your racing guys!

greyjasper51 20th June 2013 22:25

Assuming he doesnt get a number this year... He did last year but isnt running it... He gets first choice as he had it first...

Sam 21st June 2013 00:08

David will probably take it off Andrews car, and then say hes cheating :)

Fyi pete morgan built that for himself... 18k that car cost him to build!! Was stripped back to nothing sand blasted and dipped, prepped, custom cages welded in the t45 cage, full custom loom inside and bay, that car is the fucking nuts!!

KamRacing 21st June 2013 14:14

Bargain then. To be honest I wouldn't build a stock hatch car. I'd always buy a car someone has invested way too much.

If it can be id'ed in scrutineering then expect to be disqualified on the spot or be heading for tribunal. Competitors can also pay for your vehicle to be examined
If they think you are cheating. It's very unlikely you will ever be told to remove the whole head circuit side

manic 21st June 2013 14:33

This year the top 3 have had head and sumps off that was at brands . also they do random checks by pulling numbers out a hat

Not a small job to put back together. I take it its done post race so they can rebuild in workshop.

So. On topic is a new head being sought?

Yeah its post race... And building race cars youll never get back what you put into it... But as davidtaylor isnt talking, however watching the thread all the time, your guess is as good as mine...

manic 21st June 2013 15:41

Typicly post race after the last race of that formula. but inlet or exhayst manifold off and ride hight . tread depth are both common as and when they want .
