is there anyone near me that i could pay to do this. pm me thanks

es_shoes_rock 29th December 2009 16:06

how hard is the soldering?

i tend to mess fiddly things like this up!

liam-o 31st December 2009 00:15

do i need to buy more solder for this?

do i need a certain temperature soldering iron?

liam-o 31st December 2009 17:42

Bump. 12w 16w or 18w soldering iron?

liam-o 2nd January 2010 19:32

used a 30watt soldering iron, took ages to do, but it came out like this...

had to dim loads to get a decent picture, they are lots brighter, and you can see the red hands in real life

Im wanting these done to my 1.1. However tried it and dodnt work, mine are the 120mph dials aswell, has anyone got any of the 120mph dials with the blue smd already done that you can sell me???

laurence 18th January 2010 00:29

can you just buy them ready made?

liam-o 18th January 2010 11:23

No where does them
ready made, you could take your dials and the correct LEDs to an auto electrition

Really would they do that? i thought they wouldnt specialise in that area, just alarms and central locking that sort of work i thought auto sparkys did.

VenoMNL 21st January 2010 04:48

Do you guys know the reference of the "Pointer" leds? they are smaller.. but i dont know the reference so i can change them aswell

empty_inside 21st January 2010 23:34

Hi guys. I'm trying to do this the "easy" way - by dropping the steering column to get at the dash screws, rather than dismantling the airbag. I've got stuck trying to get the panel off to get at the steering column bolts. It won't move because of the wires underneath it - I've undone the main 3, but the airbag wire is still in the way:

That male connector comes out, but the female is attached to the plastic panel and won't budge. The wire's really tight, and the other end is firmly in the back of the steering wheel and also won't budge:

What to do now? Does one of these ends come loose, and if so, how?

Thanks

You cant do it any quick way the job has to be done properally. on your second pic where the dials are there is a plastic cover surrounding that comes out easy by a t10 screw at the back of the steering wheel, ans to get to the back of the steering wheel the two covers directely behing the steering wheel before the dials come off with the same screw driver. Once the surrounding is off the whole instrument panel can come off with another three screws. Here's a link on how to do it if this was confusing:

eastboi 27th January 2010 21:56

right i did this today and the ones behind the lcd screen are not working and the speedo ones flash on or off . Ive had them off and they are soldered on ok. Could it be the leds are fu**ed or have i fu**ed the actuall circuit board

Morgiee 27th January 2010 22:42

Depends if you touched the circuit board with the iron is their any burnt marks on the circuit board? if so you will have damaged it. Thats why i bought a spare set of dials incase i messed up i had some to rely on

eastboi 27th January 2010 23:11

na i couldnt see any burn marks pretty sure i never touched the board because i bought a fine tip iron for that reason. If the board is knackerd and i have to buy new clocks what happens to the milege i heard somewhere that the milage gets added together from the car and the new clocks????

Morgiee 27th January 2010 23:23

No if you get replacement dials it will show the milage of the car the dials were origionaly on. However its not much of an issue cos an MOT garage can tell how many miles you have done without looking at the dials, its all in your ECU. However if you want the dial milage resetting to show your cars current milage you have to take it to a specialist to get done cos its a tricky job.

PM ryanmt He does it all, resets ECU's, Dial Changes and also does the SMD light conversion which is what you are going to achive

Here is his account:

You should be able to do it on mk1 dials mate all your doing is replacing the current smd's for the ones you have bought. However you need alot of pacients and a steady hand. As for the T50 Screw you can easiely get them I work for Maplin's and they do loads in a set, just go to your local maplins and ask for the screwdriver for a T50 screw, it normally comes under the security tool set and your looking at no more than £8 for it. Are you sure its a T50 because i dont think torx screws comes as 50's its normally 8's or 10's? If in dout look in the saxo haynes manual or you car manual

Hope this helps :y:

Matty_VTR 18th February 2010 10:10

doesn't work on Mark 1 dials as they use bulbs not LEDs and use filters to achieve the colour instead of coloured LEDs.

Steve46 18th February 2010 17:21

thats awsomeeee

Haynes manual doesn't give sizes on bolts, and it was a TX50, got it from Halfrauds today..

waiting for payday no so i can get some 110mph Mk2 dials..

Neoclown 19th February 2010 17:11

how much would you charge to do that to my car? if i came to yours?

wattro 20th February 2010 15:09

steve can you per chance just change the colour of the dial from white to another colour but keep the origional green led lights. so in effect your only swapping from white to blue, etc. im meaning the part dont know what its called but it has ur mph, rev numbers and fuel and engine heat. could you just simply change that?

Saxo-Guy 28th April 2010 19:06

hi ive managed to change the leds on my dash fine but the rpm bit has managed to break, ive removed it. Does anyone know where i can get one from ? Will citroen do them ? thanks

Riiko7 1st June 2010 22:53

Thanks, so helpful :)

ryanmt 1st June 2010 23:06

2 tips -

1 - use 2 spoons to lever off the dials, less chance of damaging the face and the stepper motor this way

2 - once you have the clocks stripped down put them back in the car and light them up, then mark each led with a marker pen as its lit. That way you know exacly what to change :)

I have a few sets of dials and keep blue and white SMD leds so if anybody wants theirs doing or wants to buy some pre-done let me know.

I can also sort the mileage to match too.

Alex321 2nd June 2010 10:13

If i were to change the led's would it make the screen where the mileage is shown blue aswell or do i need to buy another blue screen? :p

Screen wouldnt change i dont believe.

ryanmt 2nd June 2010 11:47

The screen would change color, you just replace the LEDs behind the display. Quite easy to do
