Getting ideas from a few places for tunnel runs now ;)

Made some more progress with the exhaust system at the weekend so i need to get that up soon.

Little bit more heat-wrap needs to be added and the system is finished after almost £600 :fcuk:

Does sound insane though as a few people know :afro:

Cant wait to get some good videos of track action and some more random cruises when the next one is organised and we have cameras with batteries in mate.
Still chuckling at that :p

pjsaunders06 27th May 2008 22:59

Wait 'til you see the progress hehe ;)

Still gotta post a proper spec up and get FCS prep under-way next week :err:
Dreading looking back over the 2-inch thick service history and adding everything up.

Tear down cheek moment when the total spend comes in.

Factory standard mate.

Graphite grey is mainly a Pug colour i think???

RedB 29th May 2008 22:46

Update time...

New front pad's are here as the Mintex's from MSW were the wrong fitment,
turns out the Mintex's i had weren't available in VTS fitment and i was sent
8v ones :wall:

Anyways these pads will warm up quicker and last almost as long as the M1155's plus they are road legal so all good :p

Frodo Baggins DS2500's...

Started to get pissed off after the Piper was fitted because the centre pipe and mounts had been adjusted to make the backbox sit rigid and perfectly within the new bumper.

This caused the pip to sit close to the heatshields and sometimes caused a rattle/horrible vibration sort've noise when cruising along which was gash and annoying so guess what. It got stripped haha...

6 bolts (2 of which snapped clean off from the underside mount! 10 years wear aint bad i guess tho lol)
Which french numpty ever thought a metal heat-shield would be best to reduce heat and not conduct it back up into the car lol!?

I then used some spare heat-wrap and wrapped the system de-cat back, securing both ends snugly with extra wrap and some proper metal cable ties.
Cheers for these Alex :y:

The heat-wrap has smoked all the moisture out and hardened now.
After this happens it turns a glossy, gold colour which looks mint
and after driving back from North London on Sunday, compared to
being able to put my hand on the floor by the handbrake before and
it being quite hot i now cant feel much heat at all coming up through
the floor which shows the wrap is doing its job pretty well.
More pop's from the exhaust when you put your foot down as a cheeky plus ;)

Throttle response from the exhaust system and breathing mods (and some strippage)
alone is awesome and the car pulls like a train even in 5th gear at low revs.
Well happy with peformance and tight handling due to the upper/lower front braces.

Need to clean up the underside, engine and fit a few things before FCS...

* Valeo Aluminium Radiator + new thermostat
System fully bled and topped up
* 2nd Fan with remote switch in-dash

Non-essential but i'll hopefully get round to fitting these two aswell...

* Mocal Oil cooler
* Mocal catch tank

Sticking with street tyres which are fitted atm (Klebers i think :err:)
just to rag around Rockingham @ FCS and then
fit a new set of Toyo's for the Ring trip in July.

Cant be arsed to waste a fresh set of rubber when my current tyres have
loads left in them tbh.

Not going to go crazy anyways and aim to end up with 4 slicks after the
FCS track session so im not really bothered lol :homme:

Got a nice package today aswell which will be great for the upcoming events...

Can ya guess what it is yet?

Lazer LZ6 Katana helmet.
Will be much better than borrowing a grim, sweaty second-hand jobby this year :A:

Adding the last bit of heat-wrap to the exhaust up to the backbox and
finishing off smaller bits like the underside, brakes and rad as above along with a new enclosed carbon-fibre induction kit and a few other things.

Car is already running really well but i'll do a full service and run some
fresh Silkolene oil so everything mint for the next few months of abuse lol :p

Bring on FCS and the Ring. Cant wait to get some more track time!!! :D

RedB 30th May 2008 14:04

Picked up the last can of paint today so i can finish the top coat of Charcoal metallic and then
hit it with a few coats of lacquer and finally test fit it to the rest of the grille when everything's hardened and glossy.

Almost 2 weeks work to get to this finished! :p

Viper 30th May 2008 18:43

ooh, i need to get a helmet too :panic:

will start looking :)

Adam_Q 30th May 2008 20:27

Looks mint fella! Don't forget to take the stickers off before you head round track with me in the car!!!! Don't want you doing an Alex ;)

MikeCracknell 30th May 2008 21:04

I hope that the reason the heat shields are there never happen to you. Yes they are metal, but they do a job, and with 45 litres (up to) of perol close to hot areas, boom.

Thats why i've left mine on... got the same knocking noise but going to fix it the right way ;)

Viper 31st May 2008 01:18

can you not solve the knocking with some expanding foam?

or is it too hot around that area

Mike/Adz - If any of you actually get under and work on your car yourself then you'll see the last bit of the heat-shield around the fuel tank is made of slightly different material from the rest.

The 2 offending metal shields from the manifold flange to back of the centre pipe have been removed and the fuel tank cover left on here ;)
I almost never carry a full tank and the last bit of pipe is being heat-wrapped soon also so there's nothing to worry about tbh.

My fuel lines are actually checked so they wont pop off and piss fuel all over the road mate ;)

Also mulling over the idea of getting the tank modified but thats gonna be revealed soon.

NOSHERVTR 31st May 2008 12:24

looking good bud. Why didnt you just bash bugger out the heatshield where it was rubbing. Thats what i did and now no more rattle plus you wont smell the underseal on the car burning as the heat from the exhuast melts it hmmmmm yummy

Viper 31st May 2008 12:31

i hope you're right! lol

i dont want to be getting a hot arse

MikeCracknell 31st May 2008 19:50

The heat shields you removed are the ones that stop the gear stick from getting red hot then???

Ask AlexR - he did the same and learnt from it ;)

AlexR 31st May 2008 20:41

lol there's a nylon bush in the gear linkage directly under the gear stick that i melted when i took the heat shields off, probably be ok with your heat wrap and puny power output though :P

Saxo_Scott 31st May 2008 21:46

red.. just had a read through and im loving it! the new seats look lush and the new zorst is a lot better hopefully see it around crawley sometime!
