I saw you'd put a cheeky order in - should be superb !!

Cages are wierd as your cage is around £400odd, so I'd have £350 spare to buy tubing to beef it up where I wanted - compared to the £750 odd for the hardcore one.

Hrmmmmmmmmmm cross that bridge when I come to it !

LEE_VTR1 15th April 2010 14:56

some nice progress Ross. how did you go about measuring the inlet ports love the fact you used a die grinder there ace bits of kit.

that cage looks spot on aswell mate :D get it done.

leaving the inlet purple aswell mate?

Definitely need a steady hand not to eat into the valve seats !!!

It's a but crude, but I got a small length of metal, cut and filed it down to whatever width I wanted with a point on the end and just used that as a guide. Not 100% accurate but got me close enough to where I could accurately get it. Got a couple of CitroenSport docs with measurements on them so gave me a rough idea of the max I could go width wise with it (never even got near them tbh !!)

Really need to invest in some accurate measuring tools, might treat myself for this engine build so I can measure it all up myself during the day as opposed to borrowing them from my brother (he needs them for work during the day)

Got some micrometers, feelers and a dial gauge - suppose just need a good vernier (digital?) ?

I don't know about colour tbh, might leave it for now as it's doing no harm, and sort the colour out later on. I plan on getting some parts powdercoater matt black, so might see how much to put the purple parts in and get them done too - all ideas at the mo until I get stuck into it !

there epicly savage mate die grinders but so handy to use.

love the fact you've made yourself a gauge lols :p. nice thinking though mate and very handy having the citreon sport documents too mate how'd you get hold of them :). a good digital vernier would do you wonders mate.

personally dude I like the purple it's funky. you should paint everything black including the bay and then have purple hoses inlet and S/C bracket :)

raunchz 15th April 2010 15:42

Just found them on the internet knocking around, i'm sure there's a link somewhere........... one sec

raunchz 15th April 2010 15:43

What sort of price should I look at for a digital vernier? Some cheap ones knocking about but wouldn't mind being able to rely on the measurement it gives !

Will see about colours - purple could look okay tbh - suppose it's the least of my worries :P need to buy a charger at some point !

I'll ask at work where we get our digital ones from as we don't buy cheap stuff really and I'll get back to you may even be able to sort you out one on the cheap :).

what charger you going for then? which model rotrex.... *cough* c30/94 *cough*

adzvtr 15th April 2010 16:06

im jelouse now, that intake and head look sweet,(i want)
na u need it more than me with the BIG charger

Yeh c30/94 definitely, been trying to work plot where I think I'll be on the flowchart to work out if the 94 will be best (got a cheeky spreadsheet on the go), or whether I could squeeze up to the next one but it looks no where near possible - low rpm's would be stupid tbh

http://www.rotrexsuperchargers.co.uk...Range_V4.0.pdf

^ Flow charts

That'd be awesome if you could find out the ones you use at work - don't worry about sorting me out one cheap, I'll just get one online or something - just want to make sure it can actually measure things as opposed to it just guessing !

The head is nothing special, took a standard JP4, read a few books and thought no harm in having a little pop at it. If staying NA I wouldn't have touched it, but seeing as going boost with air being forced in it wouldn't do any harm !!

Hopefully Inlet should help out with high rpm boost, plus cams should be nice - who knows though !!! Can't find many running 94 chargers to see what sort of figures to expect !!

Tufty 25th April 2010 18:13

what did it make on the Dyno then Ross, ive been looking over the net to see your results, but cant find anything :(

adamskiTNR 25th April 2010 18:33

Just a pointer, i'd make sure you put lots of strengthening on the rear feet of that cage. Especially with older cars the feet will just smash through the arches in a roll over of any magnitude. And saxo arches aren't the strongest of the bunch, and prone to rust.
Just an advisory.

joe333 25th April 2010 18:41

hahaha nice!

Had a cracking day at the rolling road on Saturday !! Some great cars there, and a 182 with a C30/94 charger on it - I think I fell in love with it and made me slightly moist for getting a charger for the Saxo. The car sounded amazing on the dyno - here's a link to videos of all the cars on the dyno - http://www.youtube.com/user/raunchz

Car didn't make great figures tbh, it ended up with 140.6bhp @ the fly @ 7250rpm - I had the limiter at 7250rpm as I wasn't too fussed about taking it any higher as I need the car to give me another few months driving and it never sees above that anyway.

Torque wise it ended up with 113ft lb @ around 5750rpm.

They didn't do atw figures - not 100% why tbh, but the runs were done in 4th.

The rolling road guy could tell immediately that it was a road map due to the car feeling a bit 'flat', he said the afr was spot on, but the ignition side of things could have been better which would have lead to higher figures - he thought another 15-20bhp could have been got with a few hours on the dyno looking at the ignition timing and a higher limiter - not sure if he was drumming for some business :clapping: or whether ignition was that far off (I wouldn't have thought so tbh)

I think a combination of lower limiter, ingition map and filter setup may have lead to slightly lower figures - the ignition map will be mapped on a dyno when boosted, and the charger will be at max boost at a 7k limiter as this gives me room to overspin the charger easily in the future without needing a whole remap.

I'm dead pleased with how the car goes at the moment - pulls nicely, and just got back to Loughborough (220miles) on half a tank with 70mph all the way so not too bad for cruising.

I'm waiting for K-Tec to send through pictures of all the dyno prints (We all got print outs but I've got to look mine out as just moved back upto Loughborough again) - I'll post up a picture of it when I get it through on Monday!

Onwards and upwards - just concentrating on Uni exams and then getting the low comp engine built and charger bought !!

Cheers, I'll weld some strength back into them - I was thinking about the mounting point for the rear part the other day as it happens !

AndySAXO 25th April 2010 18:47

why didnt they do wheel figures? :S

that what you want to look at really.

I didn't know tbh. Maybe the software is setup to do all their Renault remap's etc. where they quote it at the fly (As it looks better) - so they just ran with that as opposed to going with atw figures due to ease.

Words can't explain how nice the 182 with the c30/94 charger sounded when the customer picked it up !!
