Does anyone know which way the car was heading in that pic. Towards the national speed limit or away? My bet is the driver was accelerating on the approach to the national speed limit road.

I feel really sorry for Gav's family and friends. I can't imagine what it must have felt like for them, to hear the sirens and helicopter and dread the worst has just happened to your mate.

Top marks for everyones support as a club guys. Its shows a lot of love and respect for someone who quite clearly will be missed.

R.I.P Gav.

No, the car had just come out of the national speed limit and into a 50 speed limit. He came round the bend at well over 100mph and the top speed you can take that bend is 85mph. The national speed limit stretch of road isn't very long either as the road is very narrow and full of bends leading towards Manorbier. Have a look on Google Maps and you will see.

Thoughts and sincere condolences to Gavin's family and friends.
Reading through this thread he seems like a thoroughly decent guy.

With respect Nathgun I think a lot of the comments are fully justified.
It's sheer *luck* that more people didn't lose their lives that day.
It was half term and normally at that time of day there are lots of cars ferrying small children home from school. It's also a crossing point for pedestrians/dog walkers to get to the beach. Taking that bend at over 100mph was sheer madness as has been proved. It's 50pmh there for a reason!

Iv never seen the bend but im pretty sure 85mph is against the law dafty.
Everyone speeds a little at some point but thats wreckless tbh

Morgan_VTR 27th February 2010 16:10

RIP, as said I didnt know him, but read many of his posts and loved his cars. Thoughts to all his nearest and dearest x

LOL Yea I know it's against the law. Just saying that's the maximum speed you can *safely* (if that's the right word) take that bend. Never tried it myself obv but that's what one of the firemen said.

PenallyGirl 27th February 2010 17:31

BTW...for those coming down to Tenby tomorrow there is a lovely little village pub, The Cross, just opposite the railway station. Parking is non existant though so park in the station car park and walk up :y:

GoGs_MacAulay 27th February 2010 21:25

RIP thoughts are with family & friends

1ntense 27th February 2010 22:15

I didnt know him either but my thoughts go out to those closest to him.

Terrible thing to happen to anyone.

RIP Gav

5AMBO 27th February 2010 22:17

didnt know him but just read some of the details in the newspaper article posted and what people have said and feel in shock myself. It is so bad! I cant believe it. Just the fact that it must have been so completely unexpected and he was so young. Really gets you thinking about things..........you just never know when these things are gonna happen and its just so sad.

Hope the driver goes down to be honest.

maddison_vts 28th February 2010 11:44

very very sad to hear this. rip.

JimoVTR 28th February 2010 12:10

I agree, weather he knew the roads or not he should of slowed down on country lanes then Gav would still be with us.

Thing is, it's easy to say that now isn't it, who knows what speed he was going at, but that crash doesn't look like a 100mph crash to me, the car is not completely destroyed to where you can't make out what make it is.

MikeCracknell 28th February 2010 17:42

Don't want to turn this memorial thread into a "nail the bastard" thread.

This thread is to remember Gav by, not point fingers at people.

Doesn't mean I disagree, but for the respect of Gav, PLEASE keep blame out of this thread!

carter 28th February 2010 18:02

just read this whole thread, didnt know the guy but reading something like this realy makes you think.

RIP Gav, thoughts go out to his family.

craig180 28th February 2010 18:18

Please let's just let the police do their thing when it comes to convicting the driver.

Let's keep this thread as a memorial for Gav

wazz 1st March 2010 00:15

No. You won't be covered on track but you'll be doing this at a low speed and thus shouldn't crash, there is no legal requirement.

I went up yesterday to see Gav's grave and its covered in lots and and lots of flowers. His final resting place is so nice and peacefull, with some stunning views. I shall pop back today to see my final farewell. Spent majority of the day with most of his close friends, then went off to a house party. They have been some welcoming and friendly I was blown away.

So for now this is Leeroy siging out
