I done this today. only took about 2 hours lol in the freezing cold and snow!

Thanks for the guide it helped a lot!:clapping:

I'm guessing as I don't have fogs already wired into the car. I can still copy that but making sure I earth the fogs and they will come on when I put full beams on??

AlexGreen 17th March 2009 20:02

Yes mate. you just wont have the ability to turn them on with dipped beams on. Dont need them on then any way so it is fine! Definately worthwhile doing its awesome for country lanes.:y:

VtrFarlz86 17th March 2009 21:56

ma 106 gti foggies came on with full beam and passed a mot no problem. so don`t think it matters. all the gti`s do this.

Andy-Lee 17th March 2009 22:38

Gtis have driving lights not fog lights:y:

Crigsha 17th March 2009 23:18

is there really that much diffrence in them ? could you not to say to the mot guy if he said anything . there driving lamps. because the police thought mine were fog lights when i got pulled

Andy-Lee 17th March 2009 23:35

They direct the light beam differently, don't know if MOT testers check the beam pattern on them or not tbh?!? imagine you could get away with it in most cases though:y:

Ashleyp 18th March 2009 00:01

good guide

although illegal, and i dont see whats so hard about flicking another switch to turn your fogs on tbh!

Andy-Lee 18th March 2009 00:11

Cheers,
Because you would be forever flicking them on and off when you see a car coming the other way, easyer flicking one thing once than two things.
Just makes it easyer for people to do who who like the idea

fair point

what does the law say about this? just curious

Andy-Lee 18th March 2009 00:16

No doubt illigal, infact i know it is as your not meant to drive with you fogs on unless visability is under ??? meters.
But aslong as you dont drive past people with your main beam on (which you dont) you should be alright as no one will know they were ever on.
Andy

Its not actually illegal. I talked to a copper about this for a while and basically the only reason you would get pulled and booked for is if you had your full beams on driving towards you will get done for driving without due care and attention.

As long as the fog (driving lights) go off when you switch back to dipped, your fine.

106 GTi's have driving lights where the fogs are. 205 GTi's the list goes on!

If you did get pulled all you have to do is prove that the lights turn on and off with dipped and full beam and the only reason you would get pulled is if you were driving around town like a twat with your full beams on because it looks 'cool' or not switching to dipped when there's an oncoming car which is the 5-0

Also the bulbs should be no more than 55/60w

Easyest way to tell if a bulb is legal is to see if it is E-marked, if it isn't chances are its not and should only be used 'for off road use'

Instead of fitting a switch could you not just remove the fuse from the battery cable?

This would mean there no power to the relay therefore it won't work till the fuse is put back in?

Correct me if im wrong

James

Andy-Lee 18th March 2009 23:15

Cheers for the info Crigsha!

and to jim bob you are correct if you disconnect any of the 4 wires leading to or from the relay will stop the circuit being complete thus stunning its operation and resuming normal operation:y:
Andy

Jim-Bob 18th March 2009 23:55

Cool just thought removing a fuse is easier and cheaper than sorting out a switch, also a fuse cant get knocked accidentally or short across

James
