Towing on a dolly is an emergency only tow now-a-days and your not permitted to go more than a certain distance (cannot remember how far like) and also you might not be able to tow it on your license.
Personally I would tow it on a rope and go back the long way (ei - no motorways)

vehicle being towed has to have tax mot and be insured if any of its wheels are on the road.
