Wile0ut 23rd June 2011 19:50

i got these picked up for me today they are 14" golf mk3 steels and they are the same as g60's just an inch smaller. im thinking of gettin them banded another 1" or maybe 2" on the rears but im not paying bandedsteels.com £345 to do it :P ive nee quoted £240 from a guy off ebay who is based in liverpool but im hoping to find a company a bit more local.

anyway the wheels

need to get them balloon tyres off so i can trial fit them

and just a pic for good measure taken earlier today

Wile0ut 24th June 2011 16:53

right guys decided i was going to tint my headlights and thought while I'm at it might aswell put a little guide together.

Tools;
scalpel
old card bank, credit or casino in my case
spary bottle(water and a little washing up liquid)
missus' hairdryer or a heat gun
and rag/towel

not the manliest set of tools ever but hey ho

first cut your film to the general size of the light
next you want to spray the lights and wipe all the dirt of ensuring that the surface is clean.
now for the hard bit take the backing sheet of the film(trust me its a b stard)
give the light a good spray and spray the sticky bit of the film.
place the film onto the headlight.
now using the hairdryer/heat gun use your card to move all the moisture from underneath the film, starting for the middle working your way to the edges.
now it should look like this

no bubbles or creases is how you want it.
now carefully trim your film to the headlight it will fold over the straight edges but will be trickier on the curves but you'll work it out.
so it should now look like this no bubbles or creases and neatly fitted to the headlight

repeat the above for the other side and i would recommend to leave it to dry properly for about an hour before driving.

final results

thanks for looking
Dan

Or go and buy some tint from Lamin-x, if it is that nvm. :p

Looks good! :D

Boothy_UK 24th June 2011 17:05

Slam it!
with fat tyres, will be epic imo.

Wile0ut 24th June 2011 19:41

its not lamin x but that would be fitted the same way. i get my tint film of ebay and its about quarter of the price of lamin x

JoeHindle 24th June 2011 19:48

i think some rectangular tinted fogs would complete the front end :) love retro dubs :D :luff:

p.s. Love the roof rack!

tomsmarty 24th June 2011 19:53

Really like it! You gonna find something to put on the roof rack?

Jay_ 24th June 2011 19:58

I'm a big fan! :y: I think some old school suitcases/ trunks on the rack would suit it :y:

i like the idea but where would i put them just bolt on to the bumper kind of thing?

as for the roof rack i think a big suitcase would look quite funky. but the only practical use it will get is a tent and some crates of beverages.

good idea on roof rack donations haha

cheers for all the good feedback guys meens a lot

Dan

Heftydanielson 24th June 2011 22:15

I really like this. love the little boot spoiler. xD

tomsmarty 24th June 2011 22:18

Definetly an old brown leather suitcase for the roof rack. Should set your tent up on it, don't think it will stay on if your driving though :n:

Wile0ut 4th July 2011 23:26

saxo sold today still liked it, looked and sounded mint when it was being driven away but glad to see the back of it at the same time.

onwards and upwards though. :) plans are as follows
new suspension
trial fit the steels see if they need bandin or not
beaded seat covers for that retro vibe
pressed plates and wolfsburg surrounds

Dan

Wile0ut 10th July 2011 14:53

Wile0ut 22nd July 2011 19:51

finally got round to trial fitting the steelies after an inspirational trip to the derby dubs meet last night. the plan is to get 2 of the wheel re-centered to give it a bit of dish and bring them more flush with the rear arch's. then refurb them in a light silver for an oem look ive also got center caps and trim protectors to spray up and put on. might go abit mental when i spray the rim protectors im thinkin white with red flowers and just use them for show. any way pics

no tyres meens mad lows :D haha

front

Wile0ut 30th July 2011 22:41

started on the suspension today didn't go brilliantly to be honest lol

first was getting it onto my mates drive :(

as you can see the exhaust came clean off the bracket was facing down so caught the curb and slid out of place ripping the rubber hangers off with it. got 2 new rubbers for £1.10 so not all bad.

the new shocks

the old (as you can see they're knackered)

old vs new. i dont understand why someone would risk chopped springs. im glad im getting rid.

well thats about as far as we got in the few hours we had on it today. we undid the rears at the top but couldn't get the bolt out at the bottom so they will be grinded and wacked out but ive got to wait untill tuesday until i can get replacements. im also going to be replacing the front cv boots, ball joints and track rod ends so they will all be ordered on monday and hopefully have them by tuesday also.

this is how the car stands atm without a rear spring

SLAMMED lol

also the rear shocks are adjustable from 60mm to 80mm and just wondered what height people would recommend

Dan

_Jon_ 30th July 2011 22:53

just go without springs ;) looks awesome like that lol

Wile0ut 30th July 2011 22:58

lol it does look good but i couldn't get up up the curb before so i think that might be a bit impractical. if i won the lottery it would be on bags :D

Prickle 30th July 2011 23:02

:D

awesome.

iDale 31st July 2011 06:45

Looks so good with no springs lol :y:

Reece1591 31st July 2011 23:11

just a thought if the car is going to be lower when done and you had trouble getting on the drive, would it not be best to do it all on a level bit of pavement or something lol

but no springs on rear looks wikid not to sure the ride will be any good though lol ....

Wile0ut 1st August 2011 00:36

i know what your saying about the curb but thats the only place ive got to do it. im gunna get some wood for the down slope make a little ramp. and hope evrythig stays where it should

Dan

Reece1591 1st August 2011 22:48

lol yh make nice long slope to get off lol of leave exhaust off for now and just pop it back on in a local car park or something what my mate did before when he slammed his civic ended up re fitting his exhaust, rear bumper and a side skirt in asda car park lol

Wile0ut 2nd August 2011 00:02

haha yh the exhaust wont be back on until the cars on the road

Wile0ut 8th August 2011 18:55
