You got lucky matey? :y:

Yeah tend to check the bay more so now as my insurance is coming up for renewal and can finally get some alloys. Would prefer brand new tbh, a set went tonight and the price got so high it would have been better off buying a brand new set of wheels. :n:

Rain, and the defects.

Ahh the weather in all it's beauty.... :n:

Had to wake early this morning (8.20am) to clean the car before leaving to see the girlfriend and my best mate. However annoyingly it was raining, but it didn't stop me because my car had been sitting on my drive for a week whilst I had been away driving a huge vauxhall astra estate.

two bucket method, I have a hose that I usually attach upstairs and drag it through the front door, but last time I flooded the bathroom... so I've banned myself from doing that...

I start by chucking buckets of water over the car gradually, so that the dirt rinses off...

I don't have the best products for the sax as many of them are presents and they all do the job until money allows (which it now does, but My MOT is next month) car seriously needs claybarring and a good wax.

the Dirt:

Thought I'd show off my nasty scratches and ruined roof...

both came with the car last year... the crap on the roof sadly didnt wash off the day I brought the car home.

Now the weather had stopped raining just after I had tried drying the car and I was going to stop cleaning the car. But I ran out with my microfibre cloth and wiped the bonnet to get some polish on.

and the finished wet product...

tbh my bumpers need a bit of the back to black and my tyres do too.. but hopefully the weather will hold now.

photof*ckit takes so long....

Small update insurance and MOT time

Expensive month for me this month, just sorted my insurance out, just over £1100 so I'm not too fussed with all modifications declared :y:

Strut brace has been fitted for a while now and it has made a slight difference can really notice it has made a change now that I've had to have it off for tomorrows MOT.

Sorting out the plans at the minute, been talking to Willsy asking about a vtr conversion and a 4 stud hub conversion-obviously the latter is only on the cards at the moment and I'm saving for that, just waiting for a figure from RCD performance :y:

Cars clean and prepped for the MOT tomorrow wish the car luck :A: lol.

Sammy-Boy 8th September 2008 23:02

Good luck for the mot dude :D

Cheers matey feel like I'm going to need it with my 10 year old sax. Nearly failed last year on emissions (standard exhaust lol) Sure it'll do me proud next year, and the more I save the more I can get what I really want ;)

shooorn94 9th September 2008 16:37

MOT fail :(

gash the car failed, just going to walk to the garage in the rain and pay the amount for the work carried out, will give a run down when I get in. :n:

shooorn94 9th September 2008 17:10

Wahoo three of my own posts in a row, get in!

Anyway total charge was £170.60 for the following:

Numberplate bulbs- £10

Welding repair to Offside chassis £55.00 (I don't know what this actually involved, apparently had some corrosion. Must be all the washes)

Strip and examine rear brakes, reassmble handbrake and give thorough clean - £35

Total of parts and fitting = £100

then Vat, then £53.10 MOT

I could have done the numberplate bulbs myself, but it would have been a waste of money doing a retest for £10 worth of bulbs!!!!!
I'm just glad nothing had to be done to the:

Front struts,
driveshafts,
rear axle,
gearbox

tbh!

Car feels alot smoother now, they've topped up my gearbox oil (Was running low since driveshaft incident page 3 I would think)

Fitting strut brace now and I'm off out to get a car battery for my mums astra, some gloves, goggles, and to fetch the mrs. ;)

shooorn94 12th September 2008 01:03

White car has now gone, for a nice little price too. At least I got some money for it and my mother now has her front lawn back ;) Just a little update on that stage.

:y:

Cheers matey.

Yep four stud conversion is being carried out. Had a bit of advice from willsy, just looking for the right front struts and the right labour costs for everything to be sorted out atm.

I've been in contact with RCD performance waiting for their feedback. It's just saving up and sorting out everything that needs to be sorted first.

Brakes, wheels, struts, suspension, rear axle, etc. Got the dosh just can't warrant myself spending out just yet ;)

A bloke close to home is selling VTR wheels at £130 with tyres, looking at spraying them black/white will get a chop done if I'll actually be buying them.

But I'm really after a set of pro race 1.2's in black. :y:

But when it rolls out the garage it'll most likely be on VTR wheels.

brosnan 12th September 2008 01:33

kool mate no worries, keep us updated on conver

shooorn94 15th September 2008 14:05

Wheels

Off to collect some wheels for when the 4 stud conversion is completed. Standard-ish wheels really but suit flat arch saxo's down to the ground, and it's just to get me rolling over the winter.

Do you know what it is yet? ;) :A:

So went today and picked up my first set of alloys. For a decent price with shed loads of tread on the tyres 6mm+ and barely any scuffs or marks. Need a little clean and I may decide to respray them gloss white/black (haven't decided yet) and maybe give them a rim if they're black :drink:

really happy with them, just gotta convert to my 4 stud hubs now when everything is sourced, but Uni starts soon so could be slow progress :p

Some pics:

Pics don't do them justice but ah well ;)

shooorn94 17th October 2008 18:55

Spax 40mm springs.

Dunno if I should bother updating till the strut conversion is finished and everything is sourced but thought I may as well leave a record so I can keep track... and if anyone's secretly reading they'll get an idea on what I'm doing.

Package came today. My 40mm lowerring springs arrived, Brand new Spax springs, looking for rear dampers and I may get Piggy123 on the torsion bar :y: Anyone had any experience with the spax springs? :A:

I'm also planning on debadging the front mk1 grille alot like Skorpions grille as his looks great imo and alot meaner, looked brilliant at FCS.

Some pics of the springs:

Andy_K 18th October 2008 08:10

Cars coming on well mate. Will look nice lowered on the VTR rims. If you are spraying they - do them white imo

The springs look familiar - did you get them off ebay by any chance? ;)

saxosport 18th October 2008 10:29

lookin good fella them wheels are mint condition rare find

Hopcraft 18th October 2008 17:25

Isn't it a better option to actually buy a vtr ?

I couldn't warrent spending all this money.

Theres a VTR in Daventry for £1050 54k FCSH, bargain i thought.

Perhaps ;) Was tempted to put : y : (:y:) in the feedback just in case it was a sax-p member. Cheers for the smooth transaction

Considerring white buddy and I know it'd look pretty awesome, I'll get the wheels on and decide colourwise from there on.

Tbh buddy I would have loved a VTR but the insurance is awful for me, I'm in one of the worst postcoded areas and at the moment I'm only earning £25 a week due to work not fitting hours around Uni (which is only 5 hours work) but in the long run I'm going to enjoy having a sleeper a little bit more :A: Plus I'm earning in my third year of Uni so that should help me save and spend a bit more towards the car. The car should be lasting me five years. So by the time I'm done with it it'll be 14 years registered. :fcuk: And hopcraft don't worry I'm quite safe with my money and genuinely look for bargains.

Essay ftw!

Hopcraft 18th October 2008 17:55

AFAIK it will cost more to insure this with all the changes than it would a standard VTR.

What post code are, Northampton aint bad ?! :S

Im NN11 and i pay 1 k FC on my Clio Sport and im only 20.

3 years no claims bud (driving since 17)? I don't even have one yet buddy. You're paying less on your insurance than I am on my 1.1 TPFT :p When the engine is dropped in it may cost a substancial amount more, but the vtr lump won't be happening till 2 more years. Hopefully with 2 years NCB. :y:

And plus the 1.1 x is alot lighter than a vtr as standard, I doubt the extra 120kg is in the engine.

carl 18th October 2008 18:54

LOL. Thank you!

Hopcraft 20th October 2008 17:01

Nah only got 1 yncb in 3 years driving and that was from my VTR.

On my VTR i was 19 with 2 years driving no no claims and the fully comp on my own. T'was 1200 FC.

AlexB 20th October 2008 17:45

Cheers bud, I don't know why but it means alot coming from you alex. It's proving quite hard to source a decent set of dampers at the minute, but I'm a tad worried about the ride if I don't source any by the time I get my struts.

I'm just itching to get it all sorted now. Luckily I have a week off Uni (nicknamed assessment week) where I should get the car sorted :p

Work have sadly just cut my hours, so my raceland 4-2-1 and supersprint full exhaust are after christmas buys.... plus in about 2 months I have my anniversary, the girlfriends birthday, christmas, the sisters 18th, then valentines... seriously tempted to ask the girlfriend to buy me the 4-2-1 ;)

Snow ftl

4 Attachment(s)
My car does too many miles I swear, need a diesel... or something safe anyway.

Went to collect my front struts today, from Avomexico up in Tamworth, took the dad along and my sister wanted to go shopping too so she came along.

I never knew how heavy a single suspension leg was, and the brakes are huge on the vts :fcuk: compared to the 1.1 anywho....

On the way home I got caught up in heavy snow showers on the M6 and M1, so bad that the snow got stuck to the wipers, and I had to slow to 50mph.
There were some right loons on the M roads in this weather tbh, could barely see anything and traffic was forever grinding to a halt!

Trial fitted the old 1.1 shaft in the new hub, and all is well so looks like it will be an easy fit :A:

Parts are collected for the front, just considerring what front and rear shocks to buy as I haven't a clue atm!
Koni, bilstein, apex or spax... :geek:

Left to buy for conversion:
Rear axle,
Uprated rear dampers,
Uprated front shocks,
Brake bleed kit,
New torque wrench,
Spring compressor,
Decent brake fluid,
4 locking wheel bolts,

Then for the new year the cars in need of a service :y:

Andy_K 28th October 2008 18:59

Good stuff mate. Snow looks bad! Hope it come up this way - reallly want the day off work lol (just so I can get on with my car lol)
Have tried Koni and Spax shocks. Konis gave a slightly softer ride imo, but both are ok. Have heard the Apex are good for the money. Can't really comment on the Bilstein as I have never had anything to do with them

Snows awesome, means I don't have to commute to Uni on the trains as one usually hops off the rails due to "leafes on the line"

Spax over koni then? Hmm thats intresting, cheers for that bud. Ideally I want to get the car on track next year sometime at least once anyway so want a decent enough setup for the miles I do on the british (bumpy as f*ck:bump:) M and A roads and a set up that will be decent for track use.

Andy_K 28th October 2008 23:35

I prefered the koni's tbh. Soft ride but handled really well

jamiecee 1st November 2008 20:05

i think it needs some body work :D

shooorn94 17th November 2008 22:27

Getting excited-and annoyed.

Left to buy for conversion:
Rear axle- now bought, standard 4 stud drum brake, awaiting delivery.Uprated rear dampers, purchasing after christmas when the money is better.
Uprated front shocks, purchasing after christmas when the money is better.

Brake bleed kit, got one for free.

Spring compressor, bought.
Decent brake fluid, dot 4 fluid isn't hard to come by.
4 locking wheel bolts, Shitroen will be getting my monies.
New torque wrench, found one getting it tomorrrow ;)

Whilst at shitroen I'll be buying parts to sort my leaking oil problem, my sump is caked in it at the moment and it needs sorting, I'll also be getting a rocker cover seal as it is cracked, and then down to halfords for a new oil filter.

And whilst on about probelms, the garage who sorted my handbrake at MOT time didn't do a good job...

SHOCK HORROR :err:

So anywho the handbrake seems to be failing on one side, need to have that looked after the rear axle is sorted and as it seems when they "sorted the handbrake" all they actually did is tighten it under the car as the heatplate (underneath the handbrake cables and above the exhaust) has come loose... :n: gunna be a fun christmas is all I can say. :wall:

The car will be lowered next week so that should cheer me up.

Tom5190 17th November 2008 22:51

looks good this progress thread some good mods made, them pics from the snow storm look abit mad, msut of bin crazy driving in that

how easy were the head lights to tint yourself btw?

AlexB 17th November 2008 23:00

the handbrake will be changed ith the rear beam mate (as its part of the drum) so that should sort that out lol

rest of it looks good though man

Yeah I'm going to speak to Sam about it soon and tell him it sometimes feels a bit shifty and sometimes feels properly engaged, cowboy mechanics ftl.
Just needs a general clean inside and out before it's in sam's hands.
Just waiting for the delivery on the axle, worrying when the company doesn't email back.

Cheers smogie, the lights were really easy to do, just gotta be careful that they don't get too hot in the oven ;)

Andy_K 18th November 2008 08:11

Sound like its coming on well mate, despite the problems. Hope it gets sorted :y:

shooorn94 23rd November 2008 16:17

Rear axle f*cked.

Rear axle took a decade to arrive, came on friday midday (was meant to arrive tuesday) took it out the lorry as the trucker was too lazy, checked it over and there were no drums, no wheel bearings, no cables, and only one side had a set of shoes.

I was fuming, anywho went to the motorfactor to grab as much as possible and trucked it to leicester to speak to piggy about what could be done about it.

Came to the conclusion that really for £115 I have been sent junk, which I wasn't expecting from a company. Should get all my money back as it wasn't as they described.

Getting a new axle after the new year, I believe Sam is snatching one from Alex just means the cars going to look like a door wedge; with it being lowerred 40mm at front on vtr wheels and rolling on standard 3 stud steelies until after christmas. :wall:

shooorn94 24th November 2008 19:20

Front conversion underway

2 Attachment(s)
Just got back from 5 hours in the garage with lots of breaks and discussions over what could be done and several seized bolts later I'm home.

One suspension leg is off and out, I'm playing around with the 3 stud hub right now to snatch anything I can from it. I may just reassemble and sell.

Sadly the lowerring springs have yet to be fitted as we are missing a t-40 bit :n: which was a bit of a kick in the shins, however I believe I have found one laying in the house.

So the car currently has one suspension leg missing and is sitting in Pauls garage waiting for both sides to be completed, which hopefully should be done tomorrow (as long as no other bolts are seized).

With citroen a job can take 20mins or 20 days!!!! :panic:
