Noddy 16th January 2009 15:54

Photos as promised :y:

Quickshift and Citroen Sport gearknob

Switches are a W.I.P need to get a small sheet of carbon fibre ordered so that i can properly mount the switches into the centre console

Adum 16th January 2009 16:07

what are the switches for?

Noddy 16th January 2009 16:08

Rad-fan override. The one that is under the cover is for when the engine is not running and the one tucked back is for when the engine is running :)

but as said, they're only placed there as a temporary measure until I've got the new centre console finished and carbon fibre sheet ordered :)

saxomark 16th January 2009 16:18

Looks good mate, the cobra daytones always look nice !, just remove the front seatbelts though...

Are you going to remove rear bench and strip the back?

Mark

Noddy 16th January 2009 16:25

nope, the front seatbelts are staying as i have people in the back every now and again (reason for me selling harnesses) To allow for that, i'm getting dual release harnesses. When somebody is then in the back, I can release the rear of the harness and use the seatbelt instead :y:

Noddy 17th January 2009 11:04

choices, choices. Right I need to get the new harnesses ordered, but i'm debating between black or blue. I'm leaning towards blue as the interior is all blacks & greys....

thoughts? - need to get these ordered asap...

Sneakydevil89 17th January 2009 11:18

nice looking buckets there, suit the car pretty well id say.

Noddy 26th January 2010 04:31

Updates will be re-commencing in the near future, due to work commitments for the last year or so i havn't really been able to do anything to the car tbh.

Toz 29th January 2010 17:46

ooo nice sax bud :y:

Noddy 18th February 2010 18:46

UPDATE:

Picked up some bargain VTS struts at the yard today. Complete with Spax VSX dampers and Eibach -45mm springs. Calipers are also yellow (although they do need some attention).

As it turns out they're off EU52. They do need some work though as the O/S spring is unseated and sratched and the dust cover and bump stop on the N/S damper has been cut through. Apart from that they're in good nick as expected from EU52.

So the to-do list for them is:

Strip right down
Paint Struts with hammerite
Get new dust cover and bump stop from spax
Repiant claipers
possible new hub bearings whilst they're in bits
new mintex discs and pads (already have these)
possibly get springs powdercoated yellow (can this be done?)
Braided hoses - either Goodridge or Exact from Kam
rebuilt and fit.

wigansaxo 18th February 2010 19:19

cars looking good, i wouldnt think you could powder coat the calipers because of the rubber bits on the pistons, still got loads of posi blue bits off my old 1.1 saxo lol

Noddy 18th February 2010 19:26

I'm painting the calipers by hand, its the springs i'm hoping to powdercoat. The car looks ok in the pics, but by the time FCS comes about it should look miles better.

phil_live 18th February 2010 19:30

looks good mate

Mcinabout 18th February 2010 19:30

Cars looking real good mate:y: Nice find on the Suspension too, with a bit of tlc they should come up nice.

wigansaxo 18th February 2010 19:38

ahh yea i didnt read it proper lol, cant see a problem with getting thesprings done

Noddy 18th February 2010 20:13

Does anyone know of good places in Kent to get powdercoating done?

Ferg 19th February 2010 13:21

LOL from EU52.
I'd be really careful with them.
Took a massive shunt @ 50.

Adum 19th February 2010 13:57

haha. eu52 lives on.... in pieces

P.S. first post on sax-p for ageeeeeess

Noddy 19th February 2010 23:54

yeah bits if EU52 are going on. I'm refurbing both legs so i'll have a closer look when i get them in pieces. O/S spring is unseated and the N/S dust cover on the damper has split. Apart from that, both damper rods are good and the springs look ok.

I should have got a pic of EU52, theres not much left on it now :(:(

baker556 21st February 2010 02:04

sure you bought them £60?

they don't need powder coating mate they looked fine to me waste of money just get them on !

Noddy 21st February 2010 23:20

yeah they'll be going on as they are now. Would have been nice to have had them yellow to fit in with the colour highlights but its just not worth it.

I need people opinions now, Front brake hoses, Goodridge and Kams Exact kits - Does anybody have a preference to either sets. The Exact are cheaper and I can get them in yellow which i would prefer..

Hopefully Should have both struts rebuilt on weds and fitted on thurs :)

Noddy 22nd February 2010 15:47

Re: Noddy's 1.1 - Flatarch - Exact or Goodridge? 21/02/10 P8

I've decided to get the Exact Lines from Kam, i'm not going to worry about the hub bearings yet as they are in good nick.

Hoses should be here weds or thurs hopefully.

Just need to get a replacement dust cover and change the replacement hub nuts that i got as they're for non-tapered shafts.

Noddy 24th February 2010 21:42

Progress today, O/S spring has been reseated and i've temporarily put the N/S dust cover back on with a couple of cable ties until a) i can get a replacement one and b) i can get the top nuts undone as even with a pair of extension bars i couldn't shift the top nut. (may give it a blast with my mates air gun tomorrow to see if it'll shift)

Old disks and pads are off and the calipers have been repainted in yellow. and the struts have been painted with black hammerite.

I'm letting the paint set overnight and then some new mintex disks and pads will be going on tomorrow when i fit them. Kam is sorting out some hoses for me, but unfortunately they won't be here tomorrow.

Not too fussed though as i do plan to change the master cylinder in the near future so whilst the system is drained, i can change the lines then.

Also picked up a replacement set of rear quarter glass as the current N/S one has loads of tiny little chips out of it. (need to get some more FSC stickers whilst i think of it :hmm:)

Also tomorrow i've got a new lower centre console with the side nets to go in, rear tow eye to touch up and if i can get some replacement chevrons then they'll be going yellow to go in the grill.

Noddy 25th February 2010 23:47

Just got back from my mates after fitting the new struts. Car looks sooooo much better now the fronts lower, noticeable improvement in the ride and handling straight away.

I'm just chucking up the pics now - batteries for my speedlite were flat so internal flash it was :(

I'm going to get some better pictures during the day when light is better.

LeeBBH 26th February 2010 12:25

looks nice Chris,
whats with the foglight? lol

Noddy 26th February 2010 22:14

i need to take them both off and get a hairdryer in there and then reseal them. Its just condensation - both are like it.

The ride quality is soooo much better now they're on, no more marshmallow suspension :D

Noddy 2nd March 2010 11:49
