Yesterday's photos don't work for me :/

jpsaxo 11th February 2013 13:19

Here you go Chris;

Modified fuse box bracket (in behind the dash near the glove box) to house the one single fuse box that the car now has

SPA dial fitting into the standard dial binnacle with CF backing plate

Chr15 11th February 2013 13:20

cheers, looks awesome!

PJN 11th February 2013 14:59

at 14k i doubt jp will throw that kinda money at shit..

its top of my lottery win list for mine lmao sadev 6 speed please :P

Beaniemoo 11th February 2013 20:47

Hay hay hay!
We're back again, with the dials fully mounted and completed.

The Spa didn't seem to come with any mounts with it so we made had to make our own bracket to hold it onto the carbon backing.
Which we're rather proud of

And the standard glass is now fitted to the dials again

I think you'll all agree that it looks amazing!
Now we need to arrange going to meet up with Sam and Joshs dad to fit the looms and everything.

Very exciting

Hope you like

tom_vts16v 11th February 2013 20:53

Thanks mate, kind words :)

Maybe some of you guys should come over to the UK for French car show in July?

stevie_m 17th February 2013 05:52

Just spent the last hour and a half looking at this, Sandy did an amazing job on the engine. Beanie once again did his magic on the wiring.

Saying I'm jealous doesn't even come close.

Awesome car there mate

MR_N 17th February 2013 07:30

Really great job with the loom and SPA, I need's me one of them!

Cheers buddy, it took alot of my spare time last year to build & pay for, but now it's all built and its just finishing touches here and there I'm really pleased with the outcome tbh :)

Beaniemoo 23rd February 2013 19:45

Back with another update!
Got up at 7 this morning to be presented by a slightly snowy Metro (really feeling for Josh out in Australia at the moment), and headed off to Leicester to fit the loom back into Josh's Saxo

Arrived at the garage, moved out the 106 and was presented with this

Set about fitting the loom

Looking very much tider!
Next up I got the dash in, and set about building it up.
Around this time Alex, Lee and Sam turned up, sorry if I was a bit quiet, I hadn't really eaten all day and was running very low on energy.

Anyways, connected the battery up and did some tests and everything that should work was working, apart from having the window switches in the wrong way round, then blew the fuse when swapping the plugs over!?!?

That aside, its all looking great

Was going to pop back tomorrow to finish off a few things as I'd forgotten a few wiring clips and plug connectors, but owing to a massive tidy up at my house because an inpending house inspection I apear to have lost his power steering wiring loom, so I'll have to find that or source one before I can finish it off, but its all looking promicing and will be finished very soon

Moo

Alanapone 23rd February 2013 19:49

Dude, that looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Well done!

Very very pleased, love the combined fuse box, much tidier! Dials look very smart in there too!

Looks like you, Dad, Sam, Alex & Lea had good fun up at the garage today :) wish I was there to be mucking in!!!

AndySAXO 24th February 2013 08:19

Looks a great job! The new display looks spot on in your car josh! Looks right at home there.

stumac77 24th February 2013 08:31

MR_N 24th February 2013 09:14

Great Job there! SPA Dash for mine it is then. :y:

Andy_K 24th February 2013 09:31

Does the dash run off all the standard engine sensors?

No it's a stand alone dash, you do however wire the standard instrument lights etc to the spa dash. The only ball ache is the fuel tank level sensor

Ross 24th February 2013 11:36

Is it not can/serial to the ecu? I always thought it was.

dannygti 24th February 2013 11:39

Its not CAN setup, it's pretty normal but it works and easy to install.

P33_CHM 24th February 2013 19:36

Looks brilliant mate! Cant wait to see/hear it on the nurburg trip

Haha, I got them from Htec-elite at a decent price!

MR_N 25th February 2013 20:41

Yeah want one when i get the interior loom done. Revs too 8300 at the moment. Will rev a tad higher with the bottom end work.

unreal106 26th February 2013 07:45

car looks great josh really like the dash and interior now!

Cheers Tom, I'm really pleased with the outcome :)

We've got lucky with the opening times, Friday evening, all day Sat + Sun 8am - 7pm it's open, as long as the weathers decent there's no reason why a minimum of 20 across sat+sun, and hopefully get a few in on Friday evening too :)

Ah right cool, I like analogue dials so the SPA was the obvious choice for me, plus not having to add Extra buttons and lights etc to get it road legal! Where does it make peak power?

MR_N 26th February 2013 15:20

157bhp was its last dyno figure. But runs a thicker head gasket now so unsure till its in.

Gary2707 26th February 2013 17:41

Hi josh I'm loving your sax that engine is epic and the mani is a monster lol :y:

Hope to see you down at beaniesport some time :)
Proper nice work moo did on those looms :)

That's not what I asked :p where does it make peak power? At what revs?

Why a thicker head gasket now?

Thanks Gary. Sandy did a great job with the engine & Mike Edwards designed + built the manifold to Sandys spec.

You know the Beaniesport duo do you? I'll probably pop down to there workshop in July when I'm back in the UK. Moo definitely did a cracking job on the loom, very tidy and a proper job :)

Ever so sorry ....

When Sonny had it he put a thicker head gasket it, i'll have to ask him to comment on why.

According to Sonny's old thread it made peak power at 7300rpm.

sje00 27th February 2013 09:44

peak power 130 atw @ 7300rpm but made good power all the way past 8000rpm.
I wished i could've gone hi comp & forged and revved the fucker harder!

The thicker headgasket was a mistake tbh. i didn't realise i used a thinner one when i originally put the engine together, then when i replaced the valves with some sexy ones, i uninetensionally used a thicker gasket.

Will be interesting to see what difference the lower compression has made to peak power / torque....

Wooooops! Decent power for an 8v! How much thicker are we talking? How did you come to realise it was thicker - if at the time of fitting why didnt you just get it replaced for the same thickness as before?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Small update on this - Beanie is poping up to finish the interior loom off this weekend so thats another thing ticked off the list for this winter :A:

sje00 2nd March 2013 10:57

I just didn't realise until I'd built it all up. It went on the dyno and it lost 4-5whp.

Yates 2nd March 2013 11:51

looking very smart mate, think if i had kept mine would of ended up this way, only the best goes for this. so easy to spend money when working away i know

Haha I think you, Danny & I know all about that lol. It sounds stupid but regardless if im away or not my car is still my toy, my hobby, its what motivates me to get up in the morning, stay an hour hour or 2 extra at night to earn the extra cash, which i can then justify treating myself to something trick over the winter each year :)

Tbh I'm at the stage now where I only get 1 or 2 bits per winter & I make sure they are good quality bits
