In the land of Renaultsport! But a new house and sheltered off road parking means a saxo/106 is calling for me to buy it.

Think the only decent vids are jp's!

jpsaxo 20th June 2013 09:53

Someone say Saxo videos on the Ring'? :D

http://youtu.be/7o_b1ROiIB8

Joe - got my gopro HD 3 Black ready for videos :D

hard_corejoeboy 20th June 2013 09:59

Wicked. Ive only got a 2 but they are all great! Where you mounting it? Please don't do it on the cage as we want to see the track.

jpsaxo 20th June 2013 10:30

Ill test it out in different positions, the HD3 Black has got the wifi built in so i can view what the camera's taking on my iphone :)

hard_corejoeboy 20th June 2013 10:32

A useful feature!

jpsaxo 22nd June 2013 16:39

Certainly is Joe, can use the app or the remote that comes with it to control the gopro too, so things like taking pictures, switching between video/camera mode etc etc.

Certainly very useful. The Hero3 is a fair bit smaller than the older ones too + the higher quality video of course - now all we need is 4k TV's to come down in price so the gopro can be used to its full potential lol

hard_corejoeboy 23rd June 2013 20:10

Tbh I think I'll be happy with mine for the next 50 years!

sexy_gt 23rd June 2013 21:33

Yet to use my gopro3black... looking forward to it though :)

hard_corejoeboy 23rd June 2013 21:42

Oh good some decent vids that don't take 100 years to load in hq on youtube.

About time :)

sexy_gt 23rd June 2013 22:04

I'm looking forward to seeing some view from the ring. ;)

jpsaxo 24th June 2013 13:03

Stew - you should come the ring with us next year :)

sexy_gt 24th June 2013 14:10

Should but won't lol

jpsaxo 25th June 2013 14:07

Not something that takes your fancy stew?

sexy_gt 25th June 2013 15:32

Plenty decent tracks in UK. Was talking to keV about it last Friday. I'd do spa if going abroad rather than nur.

hard_corejoeboy 25th June 2013 16:12

Nothing in the uk comes anywhere close to Nurburgring.
If it did then people wouldn't make the journey. Its immense.

AlexB 25th June 2013 17:19

But its his choice not to go

Literally thank you.

And you clearly have not been to Cadwell which is 20minutes from home joe :p

AlexB 25th June 2013 19:29

I understand the ring hype
But i can see why other guys would rather just do a GOOD uk track
Theres a fair few easy ones about but for me the ring is less about the track more about the weekend
If the guts i do with did spa or even sonething like a weekend in scotland at knockhill id still do haha
It to me isnt a track its a holiday the track is second in the weekend

Where as people who only want to focus on the driving part its a hell of a long way to go just to hoon around like you can on a uk track

jpsaxo 25th June 2013 20:44

True about the trip Alex... It would be boring to drive over on your own (hence me organising the trip for us all)

But also agree with Joe... No UK track comes even close to the ring - Caldwell included - I don't know who named it the mini nurburgring because they are an idiot, it's a 5/10 when you compare it to the ring - yes Stew the ring really is that good compared to any UK track I've ever done anyway!!

I've always wanted to do Spa but can't really comment there, it looks epic on TV....

hard_corejoeboy 25th June 2013 21:33

Its just the fact that my favourite uk circuit bedford the first time I was there even though I didn't know the lines very well I was going well.

Nurburgring after houra practicing on forza (okay months) millions of youtube clips later and I was still wetting myself all the way round in a 1.0 micra with 4 of us in it. Probably doing 80mph max.

sexy_gt 25th June 2013 21:42

Josh not saying ring isn't good I'd have a go I'd like it to be my local lol but its a long way.

I'm a loaner lol. Always have been one for heading to the track in my own as i do like to focus on driving rather than socialising. Yes i m a sad arse. :)

Done Cadwell before?

jpsaxo 26th June 2013 03:42

Yeah I know you weren't Stew. It is a fair distance to go, but boy it's worth it.

For me the ring trip is just as much about the track as it is the social side of things. It would be boring to go on your own, but then when your there its epic... Once you go you will realise the UK tracks are average at best.

Yeah I've been to Cadwell a couple of times, it's nothing special, very stop-starty, hard on the car & doesn't really flow that well. I much prefer donnington if I had to choose a UK track. The track flows nicely, plenty of undulation too. All in my opinion of course :)

MaRiO89 26th June 2013 12:32

Just spent the last hour or so flicking through this thread. Man this car has come a long way since i was last a regular user of Sax-P. I can appreciate the time and effort put into this type of build after building a 106 Cup Car from scratch, this really is the ultimate Saxo before going the Kit Car route with wider track and sequential box.

Fair play Josh, everything has been done and done properly. Once the BE is in there then you wont have to worry about the gearbox then, though i have to say it seemed the MA was hanging in there pretty well?

Have fun with it, i'm sure you do anyway and i hope the Ring trip goes well :)

If you are a loaner then lend us some money to go? ;)

Come with me sometime. Im happy to drive there myself without anyone even. Its a great place. When its not pissing it down with rain of course.

its all down to what you fancy, ive been ring for a week , 10 days, weekends, and yet spa is one was wana do, u basically drive past it, i think track days are who u are with, i did one with mat russel and collin a few weeks ago, and it was the bollox of a day, that was at snetterton 300.. its the same with english tracks, yea some r better than others but its all down to what u like, at ring i smash my mate, i love it, yet english tracks hes on me like glue, its all down to what you fancy i think next year we should do a open pit day at a track mid field of everyone come, not no-ones home ground just a semi decent price track, and just have it up, ring is good and great fun, and untill u go there you cant describe it and ppl look at u weird and shit, just to watch is all good and the cars there are different levels, well some, ull see a 86 yr old man hanging his gt3 out,

i did wana go ring with u guys but baby is here in 3 weeks so im on home soil only

hard_corejoeboy 23rd July 2013 15:27

Yeah Ibiza was nuts mate, unfortunately (as normal) Ive got a crazy bad cold / man flu from Ibiza so that ruled out going back to the ring this week lol.

Yeah I agree with you Kev, really does depend who your with, but at the ring its on a whole different level, plus like you mentioned at the ring it seperates the good drivers from average drivers, where as the UK tracks are generally fairly flat which makes them easier

Keep up Joey ;) Gearbox exploded (quite literally!) on the motorway on the way back from Sandys the night before we were due to go to the ring! So dad rebuilt the box while I was away in Germany / Ibiza and we fitted when I got back on Sunday morning. Now rocking a vts/gti box which is waaayyyy too long with the 9k limiter, and saps a bit of power being so long, but it will do the job for this summer before the BE box goes in next year :)
