Im interested in how it drives tbh. Im possibly picking up a GTI soon and need to plan for the future. Turbo supercharge or tb's!

jpsaxo 2nd August 2013 22:52

Video's are uploading as we speak, they are in 4K HD so taking roughly 10hours per 10min video to upload on YouTube with a fast Internet connection lol

It drives exactly like a normal engine Joe, you can put it in 5th from 2,000rpm and it's fine - it drives better than my old engine, unbelievable for a race engine really, but that's the magic of sandy brown I guess :)

Mathias 2nd August 2013 23:02

Can't wait to see them!! The vid of you driving mine too?

hard_corejoeboy 2nd August 2013 23:02

I mean it probably drives nicer than a turbo engine im guessing and also less torque steer and wheelspin? Would you say you are underpowered or overpoweree chassis wise?

AlexB 3rd August 2013 11:10

It drives better than a renault lol :P

hard_corejoeboy 3rd August 2013 11:50

I should think so lol

230ish horse power through the front wheels of an 800kg chassis is plenty in my opinion mate...

See what you think...

Cars looking good :)

BIG 4th August 2013 23:33

Jaw dropping, this car really does fly you certainly pushed it more than when it was first out so impressed with this thing!.

Gabbastard 5th August 2013 01:22

Vids are good, car sounds awesome. Fuck you though, made me go and look in the for sale section for tbs..

That was the only thing i found with cadtle coombe, that theres no elevation change which makes the circuit a bit less involving. Still good though.

unreal106 5th August 2013 06:55

nice work josh shows what can be done if you just stick at it and not get hing up on the little problems!

now can I have sandy number i think i need itb in my life

hard_corejoeboy 5th August 2013 10:25

Bought a GTI. Definately going to stay n/a!
Videos rock ;)

Haha, did you find any??

Really? I thought it had a bit of everything, it is fairly flat and I generally enjoy elevation changes (hence me loving the ring' ooooo eeerrrr) but I think the bump's in the track make it challenging to keep it pointing in the right direction, especially when your pumping plenty of power through the front wheels lol

YES YOU DO TOM! Itb's on the cards now then mate??

Definitely does show what can be done when you stick at it, Sandys done some very interesting analysis from FCS on my video vs a "similar" NA powered lump from a different company, amongst the interesting results was that I did half the amount of gear changes per lap - decent spread of torque anyone??? lol.

OK guys.... time to update this from Summer 2013....

I flew back from down under to spend all of July in the UK. Sam & Dad had already got the car MOT'd and ready to go...

and with a new Nickname....

'The Angry Wasp'

First job was to pull the dials out, give them a good clean and find the 'red button' - this controls the SPA digital dash

And house the red button in the dash so it looks tidy and standard ish

Lots of other bits to tidy things up... housed the electric window switches nice and firmly in the panel below the steering wheel

Measuring the circumference of the wheels to calibrate the speedo for the SPA...

Nice little touch I thought...

Replaced the rusty screw in the satshifter...

Fitted my dials back in with a Carbon Fibre dial surroound from Streamline, bling bling!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was the first few days in the UK, then me and Sam headed down to Sandys for him to check over my engine... everything was going well until the drive back (late at night) and 3rd gear decided to destroy itself on the motorway...

Sam wasnt happy LOL

jpsaxo 12th August 2013 09:45

The gearbox blew up approx 11pm wednesday night, and seeing as we were leaving for the ring trip thursday morning that kinda screwed up our chances of going to the ring in the Mango/angry wasp...

So mOlly & I grabbed a lift with one of my mates coming on the trip in his Megane 1.9d

And obviously took it for a couple of laps...

p.s. he's never done any laps before hence the directions you can hear on the video from me.

There was 24 of us this year on the ring trip that I organise, it was a fantastic weekend :D

The lads also kindly (some may say stupidly) let me take there cars round the ring for a lap :D

Lea's Clio 200.... 9:12 BTG

Mathias 160bhp Saxo.... 9:12 BTG

AlexB's 185bhp 106.... 9:02 BTG

And quickest of the lot (amazingly) was Nickheads 165bhp (my old engine) 106.... 8:59 BTG on road tyres with no brackes after half a lap!

On the way back from the Ring' we had some fun in the tunnels... :D :D

Alanapone 12th August 2013 10:19

Sounds ominous!
This coment will look really odd when you fill in the bits above! Hahaha

jpsaxo 12th August 2013 10:26

So with the ring trip over, dad pulled the box out of the car, collected a replacement VTS/GTI gearbox from AndySaxo, luckily we had a vts/gti ready to have the Quaife fitted to it...

As soon as I returned from Ibiza, Chris, Sam & I lobbed the gearbox back in Sunday morning, and headed straight to the Rolling Road...

And went to Mallory Park to get it weighed again... now 800kg with half a tank of fuel.... :D

Couple of pics of the car as it currently stands...

hard_corejoeboy 12th August 2013 10:43

Does your car pass a legal emissions test?

AndySAXO 12th August 2013 10:50

Have to say after seeing the spa dash, do really like it, works really well on your car josh, and it very impressive engine, put a massive smile on my face after been in it! :D

jpsaxo 12th August 2013 11:11

So the car was now ready for FCS 2013....

Chris (Jessop) and I headed down to Castle Combe early in the morning...

Had the 2 hour track time booked to begin with

Locking up the rear brakes... Think I need to turn the rear braking off a bit lol

Couple of videos of the track time... I loved the track :D

jpsaxo 12th August 2013 11:23

Finally the month was coming to an end :(

Gave the Mango a quick wash so its clean before I headed back down under...

Took the track wheels off... pretty obviously which are the fronts and rears (Note where the pick-up rubber is on the tyre from the cool down laps)

And parked up for another winter :(

LEE_VTR1 12th August 2013 11:36

hard_corejoeboy 12th August 2013 11:52

Looks like its been a fun year! Are you not tempted to put it in a container and get it shipped over to oz?

JoeHindle 12th August 2013 12:43

Awesome update :D so much love for the mango! Seeing as your not here at the minute, I think it would be in your best interests to let me 'look after' your car ;)

Your car makes me keep thinking I need a silly French tin in my life (and made me sell the Mk2, had no love for it tbh!)

Agreed with Lea, always nice to see you when you *occasionally* pop over and visit! (In fairness, I don't think my liver could handle you coming over more frequently!)

Roll on our next liver busting session and Ring trip!

I am actualy... Ive worked it out, I can have it over here for 9 months of the year, 2 months in a container per year (a month each way) and have it in Europe for a month in the summer... now ive just gotta justify the cost lol
