In what sense? The sense of mods or how far you'll go to keep it standard looking and tidying bits up

Mods.

As for tidying up i really dont have much to do in that department either. Just needs a wash underneath really. I have a squeak when i change gear so im not sure if thats a engine mount/or the spring at the front of the exhaust. Other then that i cant see anything else to change? I suppose thats a good thing. More money in my pocket.

Indeed! Just paint few bits under the bonnet etc, need to paint my wiper arms that I have. Hate the fact the paints come off them lol

Haha might do.

Just ordered these as mine have little splits in them so that cant be any good + new droplinks to fit at the same time. Sorted.

Need to order the new exhaust 'fitting kit' springy bit from 106parts as its £20 post iirc. Kamracing its near £25. :zainy: fuck that.. im all for decent quality parts but there must be a line somewhere hurhur...

Liam-westcoast 20th March 2012 15:12

looking good mate, exhaust sits much better now with ss centre pipe.

Cam 20th March 2012 15:13

Get from kamracing john, 106parts are idoits they always mess order's up if it even turns up!

Its the price they bump ontop just to post man. £25. Il probs bite the bullet and buy.. since you've mentioned this.

Cam 20th March 2012 15:26

Worth it man, i got strut braces for my saxo and they sent me a audi a4 one worth £45, mine was £110 after about a week they replied saying they won't do nothing till they get the audi one back because i may not send it back! I was like wtffff

Shame.

Ah well that can wait till i get paid on Friday lol. If that doesnt solve the squeak onto the lower engine mount next to the downpipe. :(

I had this squeak on mine when it was standard tried replacing springs a few times with no luck! Only went when I got my Peugeot Sport mounts! For the price i'd just buy a Powerflex lower bush! :y:

For springs though they are cheap! Would never buy a fitting kit again they are way overpriced...you can get better quality components that will do the same job for next to nothing!

You've seen the vid then? its annoying haha and awesome! Cheers for the links. Will buy on Friday. Il use the money on a new mount instead and get the exhaust springs cheaper. Il double check mine over first.

I have no idea why they are so high priced on that site. Im not being stingy but tbf..

Is the mount rubber easy to fit?

Edit is this exactly the same as i can get it for £23

Prickle 21st March 2012 15:11

Well started on cleaning the underneath + it was to double check for rust. its getting another go tommorow then thats that done. Still awaiting ARB Polybushs.. shouldnt be long now IMO.

Before;

After;

Need a gromit for there.. il rob one off another Saxo when i go to the scrapyard.

Exhaust will all get sprayed to match the SS as it looks out of place. Check for rattles and theres nothing so the squeak must be the engine mount next to the downpipe. Next pics tommorow when ive whore it out moar.

How does it look for a 2003 car? ;)

Prickle 22nd March 2012 14:09

Finished cleaning underneath that will do till the winter comes. Also washed the car and hoovered it. Had to be done tbh..

My cousin (20yr) thought this would be safe whilst i clean underneath. Thick cunt.. soon put it right.

I have the odd scab under the boot floor but its not worth bothering about.

Cam cover will get finished when i sort the Droplinks and ARB bushes. Still waiting on my arb bushes though..

The car is now literally sparkling from top to underneath/in.

sax_o_milley 22nd March 2012 20:23

get some waxoil on there mate

harry289 22nd March 2012 20:26

Nah don't wax oil it! Wire brush the rust bits down, then sand them, then some silver hammerite :D just on the rear part of the underside though :)

Cheers.

I wont be LOL. It really isnt great stuff.

Mr postman gave me the ARB bushes today, oosh.

So my new droplinks and bushes will go on this weekend. Should be a gooden.

Just got to wait for my lower engine mount one now (next to the downpipe)

Prickle 24th March 2012 17:38

Droplinks in short were a nightmare. :D When refitting them i came across a issue where they wouldnt fit. I made a rant status (heh heh) and dougeh gave me a idea which i had to use on the pass side btw. Thanks bbz. But on the drivers side i put a steely under the wishbone and lowered it right down. that gave me spaceto put it in and win!

Also i didnt have the right bit so couldnt change the ARB rubbers. Any idea what size it is? thanks, I Will have to buy some bits next week along with the lower engine mount rubber. If its then not that i HAS to be the one under the ECU.

At first both nuts came loose i was happy bout that! then it came to the end and it was just the thread and nut going round and round. *sigh. Luckily i had Mr Grinder to come to play. heh heh heh. :D

The work place and gear

During, more or less the same on both sides

Angle grinder had a go. It melted the plastic seal so i could get it off. #winning

Old/new

New on. Both same sides

Both old droplinks after. They wernt that bad looking at them. They did have little tiny cuts in them so..

Next update will be when i buy new bits and Polybush engine mount.

Baz 24th March 2012 17:42

what the hell did you do to those old drop links lmao, been on the move since you fitted them?

I tried to be subtle about it Baz, i did! Yeah i have it feels fine. I cant say i feel a difference but its one thing off the list. The list gets smaller quick and big quick. :homme:

Cheers.

Baz 24th March 2012 17:48

very subtle lmao! struggle was it? must say its soo much easier with an air gun lol

I had limited tools HAHA FML. It was indeed man. I started at 12:30ish and finished at 3pm PMSL. :zainy: I was hoping it would take me an hr.

I used a old adjustable wrench and small allen key thing to nip them up tight. If i didnt have one i really wouldnt be able to drive it about. I was in the shed looking about for bits like a dog eating beans. :P

If i had plenty of spare coin i would really stick it in a garage.. but its the joys of replacing parts yourself.

Prickle 29th March 2012 12:51

Right i thought this job would be a simple unbolt, new one in rebolt. NO. I set away a hr before i had to take ma to work yesterday so only managed one! What a chew on. I jacked the car up so the ARB would lower so i could pull the old one off. I must say they are shite :D the rubber is very thin with metal inside to flex it over the ARB. So putting the drivers side back on, happy the nut and mount came off east i assumed it would would be the same going back on... so the Powerflex rubber is thicker so i had to faff on with my car jacked up and another jack on the ARB mount pressing it tight.

So i only manage to get one done ma shouts HURREHH UP!? anyway i took the car out with the pass orig and drivers with new bush in. What a difference driverside felt more stiffer then it did and the pas felt sloppy. SO yeh im happy with dat. Came back and chewed on again with the pass. Good buy, nightmare of a job.

Pics;

Jack pressing it up tight. It would of been abit easier changing them when i done the drop links but ah well.

After

T50 star bit.

Powerflex lower engine mount next on the cards. Hopefully that stops my loud ish squeak when i change gear. :S

m11ler 29th March 2012 12:54

Reccomend them then? Much of a difference?

Prickle 29th March 2012 12:56

I went out with one orig and one with the new bush in (because i had no choice) and the drivers side felt much better, more stiffer.. the pass felt abit sloppy. Im not just saying it because one side was new i could actually tell the difference.

bytor 30th March 2012 12:05

Drop links didn't look that bad - from the pictures, probably why you didn't notice much. Maybe less knocking from the front end!

Looks like its going to handle nicely for the road when you are done! Good work.

Na i didnt think they were mate. I dont have the knocking noise since i changed the ARB rubbers. Defo worth buying imo.

Finished polishing the cam cover today, pics tommorow. Went to the scrapyard and got 2 arch clips for the back drivers side arch and a screw for the dial surround! Yes. (well overdue) Now ive found out that the sqeaking is the lower engine mount next to the downpipe so a Powerflex one will be getting ordered tonight! I just need one black screw for the coilpack, inlet side if anyone has one?

cheers.

Next week some new spark plugs and poss coilpack pending coilpack price, ha.

Next couple of weeks or so.., ITG panel filter, Kamracing gear linkages and 2 new front decent tyres. (rears are spot on)

Prickle 30th March 2012 20:13

Just ordered this from Ruderacing to cure my squeak, lower engine mount. Im too kind to this car.

£23 ;) seen prices a few quid higher so ye.

Prickle 31st March 2012 13:44

So took pics of the cam cover finally finished. Might give it another rub over. Unshur TBH. In a pic from a couple weeks ago the front shined more. :S meh.

m11ler 31st March 2012 14:25

I have a squeek almost exactly like yours i think, does it when changing gear and when i come on and off the throttle! You reckon its lower gearbox mount then?

It does it everytime i change gear, tap the throttle, engine moves, bosh.. squeak. I got my dad to have a look yday. I basically had the bonnet open kept pulling/stopping so the engine would jerk to find the squeak ands he said its defo not the gbox one or one under the ECU. He said it moves far too much then it should be anyway!

Mine must be that. The rubber mount itself doesnt look that good anyway! The exhaust springs are fine so. Il let you know if it is when i get it in the post. Im hoping it is. If is not that then il change the other 2 hahahah. :wall:  horrible embarresing noise tbh..

bytor 1st April 2012 11:37

ECU engine mount is prone to going the pin that runs through the middle snaps then the engine rocks about slightly.

Doing this car some good well done! Need to find the time (and money) to sort mine out (again!)

So maybe that too? :wall: :homme:

Cheers! i do it bit by bit.

Looking good prickle! Some good parts used there keep it up. Engine bay is beginning to look tidy too :) it's crying out for a 4-2-1 stainless and removal of the EGR valve :P

By the way I need to get myself some of them exhaust mounts :P

Prickle 1st April 2012 21:03

Yeah they're worth the money!

Prickle 2nd April 2012 17:25

Well i wish i didnt have to buy a NEW one i should of in the first place tbf. Buy cheap buy twice *sigh. Money id rather keep but at least this one wont snap on me miles and miles away from home.

Once ive bought this new centre section this Thursday and new spark plugs im nipping spending in the car for a couple of months other then cleaning gear. Ive done pretty much what ive wanted to atm or i did.. :S

wanting to save more every week then im currently doing + i want to buy things for myself instead of the car all the time. In fairness i havent spend that much in the last 3 months but since ive spreaded it out it seems like every week and more. :homme:

Oh and a pic of the pipe. :wall:

ey up

As you can imagine, it was very loud. So atm im rolling with a shit sounding exhaust. Silencer centre section back in with 2".

Engine mount should be here tommorow (IMO) so il fit that on my first day off work.

Most if not all will think im daft but tbh im sick of buying new/uprated parts already. :D Never ending cycle.
