Fingers crossed Ash, I've already got a fair bit planned tbh, Hopefully I can squeeze a track day in between fcs and the ring trip, then after the ring trip I'm heading back out to oz for a bit :)

Alot of rods carry surplus material over the cap. If it's properly butressed around the bolt, then it makes it stronger, but most aren't and have a neat stress raiser created by the rod bolt counterbore; like these "kit car" replica rods:

Also the reduced piston and rod mass of my designs reduce stress. If you take the peak inertia of a Wossner "Kit Car" piston and PEC rod at 9000rpm, mine won't see that until 10,000rpm on the same stroke. And because I target high torque figures over using revs to achieve power, my engines tend to be limited about 500rpm lower than others. The resulting inertia at the rev limit is about 27% less. That's a healthy margin of safety, before you consider the manufacturing/material quality and bolts.

It's amazing the amount of sharp edges and vertexes you can find on some expensive mechanical components. really is shocking coming from some companies that must run these through FEA and just say "good enough"

what spec/size valves are going in? or is that top secret?

I won't be saying the valve sizes I'll be using, but single piece stainless. The exact sizes I use aren't available as a direct fit, so I have to re-machine valves designed for other applications. I use various sizes according to spec, it's a fallacy that bigger valves equal more power, there are so many side effects at work that valves sizes need to be developed alongside the cam profiles, CR and chamber/porting/seat work to get the delivery you want. I don't use "big valves" as most people would; moderation is the key. Anything over the standard seat insert sizes means oversizing the inserts, and I don't like changing valve seat inserts unless I have to, it adds alot of cost and risk to the process. So most of my development has been based on valves that fit on the standard inserts safely.

That the reason i ask. I wasn't sure how much bigger (if any) you could go on the inlet side of a JP4.

Keep the pics coming, its turning me on :D

Sandy309 18th February 2012 17:55

Will do :D

I wouldn't go any bigger than standard inlet on a JP4 unless you really have a good reason to do so.

Nice work mark!!!!

This thread has being a pleasure to read from start to now. It's really nice to see the car is being built for the use its intended for. As well as sandy giving us a insight to how he builds the engine' with a eye for detail that is next to none.

Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing future progress.:y:
