Car has to be out of the Subaru place tomorrow as they have alot of customers cars booked in. So times been too short to have done the scuttle too- plus ive used it as a tookbox so the paintwork would have been ruined by now lol

Coil pack cover perhaps just needs a clean, the whole outside of the car is a disgrace, greasy smears and road muck from before work started etc- Big wash when it gets home

Who cares about the paint at the moment, you can sort that when its out there like you say!

I gave mine the full works this weekend, was good to finally give her a decent wash, first time since trax i think... Lol

Get her home and give her a huge clean and get some pics up mate.

Only a couple of weeks, fine tuning here and there and she will be one of the best around. So whens the first track day? Fancy Donnington soon? or come Llandow with me / ssc? thats on April 4th - day before RR day :A:

Edit:- Agree with Jay on the rockers for sure...

A trackday would be awesome. Ill see how things progress with getting it all done etc. Would like to give it a good running in first and hope for some trouble free milage.

Well up for a good track day when ive got used to the power a bit first :y:

After the amount of time these covers took to polish up the buggers are staying polished :p

What better way to get used to the power on a track? plenty of run off should you need it....

good stuff. Is that a yes to llandow then or not? or see how you go and decide in a couple of weeks? Its £67.50 for a full day - half day in sessions, half day open pit go out when you want style.

willsy 19th February 2008 01:13

Its a definately maybe :) If it runs smoothly and i get some trouble free milage then im in :y: time will tell.

Is there a deadline date for llandow with a deposit, or is it a pay on the day?

It will be a get your money in asap mate, its a total bargain tbh. If you consider you'll pay half that for a 30min session @ fcs....

I think the thread went up today and 5 places have been taken already. there's a maximum of 30 people. I'd imagine within the next 2weeks or so it will have 20+ spaces filled if the demand is anything liek the last 2 have been...

I'll give you a buzz friday (should finally get my phone back then) and see how she's running, let me know what your thoughts are at the end of the week. I need to talk to Sam and see if he's going as well

DavidKent 19th February 2008 08:17

Looking good matt!
Can't wait to see it fully complete now, Good clean and all ;) lol
Good work!

Toad 19th February 2008 09:08

By attachment, do you mean a piece of tubing to extend the air filter closer to the slam panel? The Ecosse kit came with a piece of plastic piping so it would fit inside the box correctly. As they use the same Samco hose that you have, you could get a piece from them.

Adam_Q 19th February 2008 15:58

Almost there now dude!!! Can't wait to see this beast!!!

One of the best progress threads i've read :)

LEE_VTR1 19th February 2008 17:31

engine looks ace in the car mate :y:
im guessing your saxo is nearly complete now?
i can get you abit of stainless pipe from work if you give me the dimensions like outside diameter length etc....

pm me or drop us a txt about it mate.

saxowebby 19th February 2008 18:32

Wednesday 20th Feb

Big backward step unfortunately :(

yesterday was the day that the Saxo had to depart for home from the place which we'd been doing the work in. As we'd been able to use the place for no charge, customer cars were due in to take space which the Saxo had occupied.

Although the engine was running fine and should have been ready to drive home there was still a bad oil leak which needed to be dealt with. It was unclear as to where it was coming from and needed to be looked at before setting off.

The oil was running down the front side of the engine on the drivers side (Alternator/cambelt cover territory)

hoping for something simple the alternator + belt was removed and the bracket which it attaches to to give more vision of the area mentioned above.

Enough charge was in the battery to fire the engine up and wait for the leak.

The result:

Alll was clear for a couple of minutes and then it came, almost as if a tap had been turned on....from..

The front corner of the head gasket!!! Sh*t! :panic:

As the head/bottom end and sump had been put together with new gaskets and parts and the timing setup correctly by a reputable local company a phonecall needed to be made...

Theyve accepted the fault and the cars going there tomorrow afternoon. When itll be back home again and fixed, im unsure..hopefully wont be long.

raunchz 20th February 2008 20:18

Doesn't sound good ! You think they didn't torque up the bolt on that corner ??

willsy 20th February 2008 20:42

It also appears that im going to need some spacers for the new Alloys, rather strange as ive literally just swapped from Ultraleggera 16s to ultraleggera 15s using the same make tyres.

Alloys say ET15 which as i understood should be as good as correct?

On approaching full lock they rub on the arch liners and the drop link threads overhang the tyres edge and when going over a bump would foul.

On the rear the wheels just touch the handbrake cables! ARSE

10mm spacer should easily clear the above problems.

Can anyone recommend any good quality spacers for sensible money? Ill also need slightly longer wheel bolts aswel to cater for this.

raunchz 20th February 2008 20:44

Surely 10mm spacers would take them to ET5 ?? I thought the ET to go for was between ET 15 - ET18.

Sounds wierd to me, the wheels are def ET15?

Dan 20th February 2008 21:38

Some more good work Matt, shame about the oil leak though.

How come you've changed from 16's to 15's?

BenSilverSaxo 20th February 2008 21:44

Word of advice, get hubcentric, there is no point ruining all the hard work that has gone into this car with wheel wobble.

There is a place in the midlands that makes custom hubcentric spacers.

willsy - what size tyres do you have fitted to the 15's? if they are wider than 195 on et15 then they will most likely rub.

you certainly need to get hubcentric spacers. i'm pretty sure you can buy them off the shelf, no need for custom made jobbies.
