My plasma dials were starting to piss me off somewhat, so i decided to give the Mk2 dial conversion another bash.

This time i did it a bit slower and took notice of which way those fecking LED's came out. At this point i was a bit skeptical that i could actually do it...

But i did it all and got them back together

But then it all started to look a bit hard again at this point

got it all back in...

and moment of truth..

WIN!

all i need to do is get my Mk2 fuel pump fitted so that the dials dont over read (hopefully!)

Also, anyone who has seen comedian Rhod Gilbert will appreciate this find of my brothers few days back...

They actually Exist!

TraV 25th January 2010 13:30

i wanna change my leds to blue, can u write a little guide how to do it please? they look mint. nice car =]

gsavill90 25th January 2010 16:19

Very nice!
It's such a good feeling when you plug it all in and it actually works :P
I noticed that the dot on the LED's was different on the new ones i put in.. like citroens LEDs have the dot on positive but the ones i bought had it on negative. I dunno...

Looks really good though!

Liam-westcoast 25th January 2010 17:26

they look well good mate

TraV 25th January 2010 17:29

Its honestly not too bad mate, you just need a steady hand. I wouldnt recommend doing it on a second set of dials only because then your mileages dont match. i managed to get a set that was udner 200miles out from what my actually mileage was.

i can do it for you, but its a fiddly job!

well the ones i bought had a little bit missing from the corner like the ones on the dials already. so i just went by that and it worked. problem is i didnt change the high beam LED and its duller than the low beam light now :P haha

thanks mate. the morettes was pretty much the reason i bought the car :P

the wiring the itself was piece of piss. just put spade connectors on the end of the wires from the MK2 dials and "plugged" them into the appropriate places on the Mk1 plugs.

As for mileage. i might see if i can get i changed, but as the dials i got were only about 170 miles out from the actual mileage, i might just leave it.

TraV 25th January 2010 18:54

mate if u wud do them tht wud be brilliant, as i dont have solder nor a steady hand, so if u come down here soon give me a shout =] ill pay ofc

taking my time, it took me like an hour to do all the LED's i think.
but we can sort something out.

i would consider doing it yourself though. my handisnt taht steady but as long as your careful. my soldering iron came frmo tool station! like £7 or something. long as it has a point would be fine!

Lippy 25th January 2010 19:32

Looks much better bud, I can say it now but I really didnt like the plasma dials, they looked different but these are much cleaner imo

landerboi13 25th January 2010 19:39

yeah, i sensed the bad vibe from you when you saw them. they were different, but they buzzed (which might have been my wiring as they didnt the first time i wired them in)

That and they were a different shade of blue from the other LED's

tried phoning you today! needed a hand changing my fuel pump!
out of all the peoples numbers i have from saxp, only one replied!

FAIL!

you still got your VTR? its not too late!

Sneakydevil89 25th January 2010 22:22

actually, im suprised no one pointed this out

look at the revs and the speed....

yup, im doing -5mph at 500rpm

DOH!!

knew i hadnt put them back properly and all. so out of the 4 guages, only 1 of them is actually accurate!

im going to try and fit my Mk2 fuel pump tomorrow before work, and if theres time ill whip em out again and fix it.

only just got my steering wheel back on straight!

bugger it!

Ben 25th January 2010 22:33

Looks awesome mate, shame about the cock up :P

Sneakydevil89 26th January 2010 11:25

speedo and rev fixed, but coudlnt get the cocking fuel pump out so coudlnt get that bit fixed.

my local garages wont do it either as the new pump is second hand. grrrr

anyone in south west wanna come do it for me?

StephanieLouise 26th January 2010 16:41

Looking good my lovely :) glad you have sorted the rev and speedo out :)

Lippy 26th January 2010 20:42

i had the problems you have with the speedo and the revs, ive put very small red dots on my gauges before I removed the needles though so was pretty easy to set again, my speedo jumps a little just havent been bothered to fix it yet... :)

oh what a day iv had! my bloody fuel pump started pissing out fuel everywhere. wasnt great!
so finally managed to get the Mk2 pump in, but i put £20 of fuel in yesteday and a tenner in today and its only showing its just over a 1/3 full!

that surely cant be right!

i read somewhere, that unless you fill the tank to the brim before you unplug the fuel pump and swap it, it always mis reads. im not really sure though!

whatver though my car stinks of petrol!

more problems :(

putting me off the car again...

Lippy 26th January 2010 23:31

the more you tinker with a car from standard the more will go wrong! I learn that a long time ago but it hasnt stopped me yet! it prob does need to know what full and empty are but im not the one to ask, speak to adz and he might be able to help you out there!

or raunchz, andy_k etc as they know loads!

you may well have emptied loads of fuel from the leak, £30 is 3/4 of a tank -milage -leak = £10 left... it is possable!

i may well do that.
will see though.

i dont really think i could have lost £20 worth of fuel though!
there was a fair amount still in the old pump when i removed it and not there was a bit of a puddle of petrol under the seat, but £20's worth? had only done something like 17miles since i put £20 in.

also the weird thing is that when the car is stopped on a downward hill, normally the guage goes up, but now it goes down! and when parked on a upwards hill, it should go down, but it actually goes up!

i also swear that if im hard accelerating the thing actually physically moves infront of my eyesand then goes back up a bit afterwards.
will see how much fuel i "use" compared to miles tomorrow.

who knows

Lippy 27th January 2010 18:33

you havent put it in backwards? only way I can thing it would read in reverse like that, as for only 17 miles sounds like something isnt right I thought you were gonna say you had done 100 odd... Not the best person to ask on this one unfortunately :(

Adz 27th January 2010 21:03

mate they look spot on, and im loving the white dial suround, but please don't do any other bits inside white, as it will look naff,

But the dials are spot on dude,
hope you went on alright with the fuel pump, i will give you a ring or a text tomorrow, to see how you got on :P

well done with the dials, they hard ?
by the way nice milage ha :P

dont think so, 99% sure i put it in the exact way i took it out. dont know if its got anything to do with the block on the end of it.
but actually i think it may be behaving itself now anyway. seems to go up and down when on a hill the right way now.

we'll see though!

nah, im phasing the white out. Dont know what to do about the surround as i want something that will reflect the light well. Dont think Posi would do that.

The door handle trims are only temp anyway lol.

as said above, think the fuel pump is behaving itself, but we will see

got bigger problems to worry about now, something wrong with the exhaust system, its blowing like crazy all of a sudden and i think my shocks are fucked, something suspension wise anyway :(

as for dials, i wouldnt say hard, but more time consuming, as long as your patient with it its not too bad. also helps to havea half decent soldering iron

lol that mileage is all too close to the actual mileage :wall:

thats a good idea, im gonna have to have a good read through the thread to see how you wired up the mk2 dials in the first place, doing the leds is just a matter of using a soldering iron to get the old ones out then solder the new ones in im guessing?

yeah pretty much, you need a steady hand, but its fairly straight forward as long as you remember which way they came out (or just solder the new ones in straight after)

the Mk2 dial conversion isnt that bad either, just need to make sure you get the right size blade connectors and a Mk2 fuel Pump.

yea i just did a search on the subject and it bought up a few of your old threads and i followed a link you put on one of them was very helpful :y: a lot of people say its too much hassle but as far as i see all you need are the plugs on the back of the mk2 dials with a good few inches of cable then strip the end of the wires, crimp on spade connectors then follow the guide and plug them in to the corresponding place as it says on the guide, looks simple enough even a :homme: like me could do it :drink: lol

jeffchiz 31st January 2010 11:53

oh yea also where did u get your leds from have you got a link, ive looked on ebay but i dont wanna waste money on the wrong ones, as i wanna keep this a nice cheap mod lol

Sneakydevil89 31st January 2010 12:19

it really isnt that much hassle, the only bad bit (once fuel guage is sorted) is the mileages not matching, but i got a set of dials that were VERY close to my actualy mileage.

here are the ones you'll need:

i expect you want red, but i got the link for blue aswell :y:

Red SMD LED's

Blue SMD LED's

Now i dont need my car for work anymore, i can actually spend some money on it :P

Need to get the major issues sorted with it first, i also suspect the gearbox from the badger thats on the westy is on its way out as well :(

but anyway, been keeping an eye on this one as its the amp i want for my sub. They are about £140 new, and i got this one in great condition for £80 posted :P

copyright Caraudiosecurity

Now just need to my Sub and ill be away, or ill be away once i can drag lippy away for an afternoon to get it wired in :P

As for the more future, im STILL waiting on my new Headunit, starting to think i been diddled.

After the big problems are fixed, this is my To-Do-List
  • Get VTS alloys powdercoated
  • Paint 307 HDI Calipers
  • Get 307 HDI calipers Re-built
  • Buy 283mm Discs and suitable Pads
  • Buy Braided Lines
  • Buy Coilovers
  • Buy Refurbed Rear Beam

That list is spanding over the next few months i hope, but we shall see!
hopefully some exciting stuff on its way!

Lippy 1st February 2010 21:36

is that the 500 watt mono block? cant tell by the piccy... there is one on ebay that i was gonna point out to you but seems too late
