Gives it away slightly doesn't it lol. I was thinking of painting the bonnet and boot, leaving a small strip through the paint, but then I think it would be rude to cover up all the weave?!

Gotta agree with the lads though, those tints are heinous and detract from the car if you ask me. It cheapens the look, which couldn't be further from the truth! Would look awesome with the cage visible too! You know we are right, loose them brother!:panic:

Cheers Lewis-I-Take-All-Year-To-Do-1-Job :p

I'll think about the tints, I still like the fact it hides the cage so the only bit you can see is the A pillar, and because its a weld in cage it follows the A pillar more than a bolt in cage so its not very visible

Lol Tom, Sorry mate... I've got loads of pictures from yesterday's shift on the mango - didn't finish until 9:30pm lol. Ive uploaded them to my photobucket if you fancy a sneak peek :p I'll get them posted up straight after work today buddy :)

Lewisimo 17th April 2012 09:49

Lol you bastard! :D

My cage actually sits proper tight to the a pillar whereas in the Saxo it didn't. I guess it's how it's fitted that makes the diff. Consider the tint removal mate, jokes aside it will make more 'mature' and classy. I think having tints lends itself to highlighting the chav image saxos already have. Trust me on this one brother! When you get to my age you'll look back an think "why on earth did I have tints?!" The 90's have long gone dude ;)

:D

Agreed. but maybe its all part of the deception / sleeper look, then the light goes green and the pub talk ends

So last night I got a fair amount done with the help of my brother....

Firstly gave the interior bungs some back to black that had sat and soaked in over the previous night

Some general close ups of the engine bay....

Smoothed (not with filler!)

Strengthening across the lower chassis leg

Strengthening on the ecu engine mount

One of the general Engine bay

So we started with fitting the satshifter, first up was drilling out the hole through the bulkhead

& then the 2 holes for the gearstick...

Once we were 100% happy that it was perfect we double checked with the plate over it

Then we popped some sealant down onto it and stage 1 tightened it into place

Finally we fitted the unit to the bulkhead and the lower arm on that goes through the exhaust tunnel as well.

By this point it was 9:30pm so we finished up for the night. More progress tomorrow :)

I like painted carbon fibre parts. far more understated, and look like it's there for a function. only when you open the bonnet and they see the underside in bare carbon

Iamallywhan 17th April 2012 20:02

it soo clean!!! looks good! not alot of good looking mango sax's out there!

Lewisimo 17th April 2012 23:06

Im giving the ring trip some thought mate. Need to get a few trackdays on the new setup under my belt first. Also im looking for a new daily drive/work horse so not sure what the situation will be with that, might have to get a tow bar fitted etc.

jsdvtr 18th April 2012 15:25

What did you use to cut the big hole for the gearstick of the satchshift? Looking to fit mine fairly soon.

craig180 18th April 2012 15:28

Have you thought about painting the carbon with a really thin coat of paint like I did with mine so you can still just about see the weave?

Do they just go into a drill i take it? What size hole cutter did you use? I think in colins guide it say 70-75mm hole?

I wont be rushing it, dont see the point when working on cars :y:

Dont paint the carbon.... Leave it as it is IMO Itl look the tits with the bonnet on!

Berg 18th April 2012 21:25

Loving the latest progress josh :)

It took ages with our hole saw, im sure with better tools you could breeze through it in no time. We used the size it says on the guide. I fitted one in Nickheads car when I built that up last year so knew what i was doing :)

Cheers Berg, you going to be at FCS this year mate? be good to catch up.

As im sure everyone knows the weather is terrible at the moment so I havent been able to get much done. Firstly I decided to tackle finishing off the satshifter set up. Firstly the gearstick so I was lying underneath the car and not getting too wet lol. Then I fitted the upper rod through the bulkhead, All thats left is to connect it up with the gearstick

Nice and close to the steering wheel

As the weather cleared up I started to carefully modify the black plastic scuttle part that runs along underneath the window screen to make it fit with the extended scuttle while trying to keep it looking standard

piggy123 18th April 2012 23:41

If weather is dry for a few hours tomorrow I'll re-wax the bay if I get the chance as mine needs a wash polish and wax yo :)

Lewisimo 19th April 2012 09:41

Definitely do come over and have a chat mate, can take you out as a passenger hopefully :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got a bit more done today inbetween the rain, Mark took out the PAS rack so wasn't sure how it went back together so we worked that out, went to fit it all but Mark still has the 2 bolts that go at the back of the rack for the PAS lines

Anyway then I sorted out all the parts to send for powdercoating along with a load of parts for Willsy :)

Next I fitted a new set of track rod ends to the steering arms as mine were both fucked

After that I fitted the new Carbon Lorraine rc5+ pads

And fitted the brakes onto the car...

Tomorrow morning I'll hopefully be picking up all the bits and bobs that are at Marks so I can carry on building the car up tomorrow after the f1 :)
