Where the leak is gathering/occuring is marked in red on this picture;. Everywhere else appears to be dry as a bone

MK2SLAG 11th March 2008 00:33

i really wouldnt like to say to be honest, will ask my mate tomorow though

willsy 11th March 2008 00:34

Heres a pic of the bare head, theres very few places which the oil could actually be coming out from

Heres a pic of the bottom of the head, doesnt appear to be any cracks or flaws which should/would have been easily picked up on

Barry123 11th March 2008 00:40

could it be a hairline crack in the head? I can't imagine typical oil pressure alone causing the leak to be honest.... sounds more like its the combination of increase in oil pressure and heat expansion of the head (thus widening of possible crack) that is enabling oil to leak through.

No idea of how you can check for a hairline/micro crack without resorting to X-ray technology - and no idea where you'd get that done either.

I'm worried to be honest man.

Jungle_Jim 11th March 2008 00:42

what about the actual engine block buddy rather than the head, could it be leaking from a crack in that

willsy 11th March 2008 01:00

It does seem to be leaking from the head somewhere, just above the point marked on the picture perhaps,, thus ruling out a block problem as the oil could only travel downwards.

Fracture in the head or not its still a rather large leak, id still expect more or a weap than an ongoing trickle for a fracture, surely either would have been picked up by 1 of the companies that have had the head and worked on it? tricky one really.

With the amount thats coming out something surely in my eyes cant be fitted right somewhere rather than a fracture...or so im hoping.

When i first got the engine there was no leak atall visible at this point either

Really gutted for you mate, I know how much this conversion means to you and I'd be kicking the wall by now with how it's taking as I'm very impatient.

Not sure what to suggest on the leak, I just hope it isn't anything serious. When you next off up then?

Hope you find it and sort it mate.

raunchz 11th March 2008 09:02

Could it be the front camshaft oil seal ?? Worth replacing it?

Maybe, but it is a brand new part. Im sure if they'd actually looked at it properly first time they took it apart and changed the head gasket then there would have been evidence of some oil residue from the offending area. Only got themselves to blame really for not checking everything thoroughly.

will i have a call with an update sometime today...fingers crossed

Luke 11th March 2008 09:45

Good luck Matt.

jpsaxo 11th March 2008 11:14

You can pressure test the head, speak to Spencer Matt - his head was cracked iirc

Aron 11th March 2008 12:07

Are all stem seals new, not leaking. What were all the head bolts like? may be a combination of a couple minor things.

Everything internally inside the head is new, all the seals etc etc. Headbolts new aswel.

Theres very little on the engine thats not a new part, still hoping that its just something somewhere thats not torqued up right.

Hows things going for you anyway mate? long time no see

Aron 11th March 2008 12:25

o rite ok.

yea its good. Just waiting for insuarnce and police to pull there fingers and sort themselves out so i can buy another saxo!:y:

Toad 11th March 2008 13:32

I'm still putting my money on the headgasket. This is where they all tend to leak from.

Aron 11th March 2008 13:49

Why would it still leak if its been replaced again though?

Toad 11th March 2008 14:26

Because it's been fitted incorrectly. I've spoken to a couple of garages about headgasket leaks, and it's fairly well known that these TU lumps tend to leak from the front left...

Aron 11th March 2008 14:31

fair enough. im sure it will get sorted one way or another.

Toad 11th March 2008 15:20

Willsy, did you go to these guys on a recommendation?

I'll second that, seen probly over 15 leaking from that front corner, although not really that excessivly.

Good luck mate, if your willing to travel you can always bring it to my garage :P
