2 hours?
how can 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of lacquer to dry?
in the foglight one it suggest leaving the final coat of each one for 24 so at least 3 days

Bondie 16th July 2008 22:41

Dont have to be perfectly dry to put back in, if you wanna leave then do so but i done mine about a year ago and still in perfect condition!!

Furio_Rob 16th July 2008 22:59

ok, is lacquer that important or not?
its not really gonna need protecting
and i just want them to look as dark as possible

Furio_Rob 17th July 2008 13:53

would this work?
wanna make sure i wanna get the correct stuff :)

Anyone done a guide for doing this to mk1 headlights and indecators? Im guessing the internal chrome part on mk1 will just be a square for the headlights and then a small piece for the indicators?

Bondie 17th July 2008 17:40

Any black paint will do mate! Halfords is alright

just had a trial run getting them off and im really struggling
got all the bolts and bulbs off except the main one

the big one, inside the big grey rubber sock thing?
how do you get the bulb out the back?
didnt wanna pull too hard incase i snapped anything

thanks

just finshed mine thanks for the guide they look amazing.

I bought a spare set as I didn't wanna rush them, and the fact that I'm slow and lazy.

I masked of the recess for the indicator, figured it would work way better if that part wasn't colour coded.

I sprayed mine satin black, hopefully get them fitted if the rain holds off.

Cheers for the guide.

Thanks for the guide- I couldn't have done this without it!

Having said that- it's easier than it seems!

The finished product...

Thanks again...

Leave the rubber sock on, and just grab the black plastic square bit(?) and wriggle it off. They can be quite stubborn, so just stick at it!

Have fun...

i did it like a yearago and used some clear silicone type stuff but it wernt great and was messy!
im jus currently doing my ones off my vtr...
anyone reccomend a glue to use?

browne174 28th October 2008 16:21

i just reheated both parts which softened the glue again, then put them back together with some insulation tape put round the keep it all tight.

other than that, try gripfill

Roj 28th October 2008 16:40

Tried doing this tonight but gave up, when i tried getting the lense off with a knife the glue just seemed to be scraped out.

Should i just leave it in the oven longer to heat the glue more?
Worried incase i scrape it off and have no luck getting it back on.

Cheers, Andy

DJDannyB 5th January 2009 14:19

Do you put the glass back in the oven aswel as the headlight when re-heating to put them back together???

DJDannyB 6th January 2009 13:24

Just finished mine and re-fitting them now.. Broke the clips on the brows so i need to go down to the citreon garage to buy some, does anybody know how much these are? and are they the same clips as the door cards??

Also when i took one headlight out the bottom plastic bracket has snapped off so the headlight is only held on by the top 2 bolts as the one underneith isnt doing anything :( Nothing i can do about it without replacing the light and i cant be arsed splitting, painting and fitting a new light all over again haha. Should be fine :)

Great Guide!! Thanks
Danny
