here is graph - 7psi vs 14psi - on dans car.

dotted lines = 7psi
solid lines = 14psi
all figures measured at wheels

mmmm torque anybody? :P

- colin

tillygti6 16th May 2011 16:06

whoa! thats pretty bloody impressive. that must be fun at 14psi! and i imagine actually fairly driveable too?

atspeedracing 16th May 2011 16:14

its not too bad, the power comes in very evenly over a 2000rpm spread, so quite controllable. i love these set ups. they are all you really need on the road - and still plenty for track too.

- colin

dannygti 16th May 2011 16:27

JESUS H...

thats some difference there.. they do say torque comes with boost.
good to see that actually. kind of prepares me what to expect. and if dan is happy with what he has now then he's going to wet his pants with the higher boost.

colin, is there any way for you to overlap dans, low and high boost graph over the top of a descent spec throttle bodies car??

miamibluebaby 16th May 2011 16:28

That torque on the 14psi run looks very noticable lol its mad how much torque increases with psi, would be fun to play between 2500 - 4500 rpm Big smile would be planted on your face me thinks!

tillygti6 16th May 2011 16:28

just shy of 300bhp per ton in a stripped sax/106 would be more than enough to scare you silly, 400+ cant practically be much faster CAN it??? mabee topend but in the realworld?
dont take that as a derogatory question, id love stuupid power but surely theres a limit to the practicality?

oh trust me it can be much much MUCH faster :P

imo around 280 on the wheels is practical limit for these in road trim.

after then they start becoming rapidly more awkward to drive and you find yourself limited where you can actually use the power... a road you used to consider fine is now hurrendously bumpy and waiting to throw you off into the horizon, you have to be so careful.

atspeedracing 16th May 2011 18:25

as requested

stock engine at 7psi (broken lines)
and 14psi (solid)
-VS-
division 1A super 1600 C2 rallycross car (dots) (150 hp @ wheels - 9000rpm engine)

bare in mind, engine of that spec is similar cost as dans conversion ;)

Wayne 16th May 2011 18:26

atspeedracing 16th May 2011 18:33

any other requests? lol

dannygti 16th May 2011 18:35

cheers colin. thats extremely interesting. very nice to see an overlap as it just shows that the boosted car is much better in every aspect.

wayne, you sure do pal.. get on it lol :D

atspeedracing 16th May 2011 19:28

then colin is going to kindly dontate his whole setup to me.....

okay, maybe not. but will be very interesting to see what happens.

on a side note,
dan you must be very pleased? have you not tryed the higher boost setting at all?? i should be ok so long as your not launching it and have normal road tyres.

blackie_2k5 16th May 2011 22:04

its been said a few times..... but fuck me that torque figure looks awesome at 14psi, definatly a nice spread of power, rises sharply and stays in for a good while before nicely tapering off

exactly how a turbo car should run :y:

ive seen your vids, it looks like your trying to drive a lion!!!!!!!!! just mental, and trying to kill you at every opertunity, looks fun though!

dunno 23rd May 2011 16:06

this is such an epic setup mate & i cant imagine how happy you must be!

i would love something along them same lines and tbh 200+bhp is mental for the money you have spent tbh! :y:

i know its probably a big ask but could you get up a full engine spec list? i just wanna see what kinda componenets your running as im thinking about doing roughly the same as what you've done. :D

plus one ;)

paxo89 27th May 2011 16:49

There's not much too it tbh lol. off the top of my head;

DP turbo kit (turbo, manifold, downpipe, hoses + fittings etc)
9:1 Decompression plate
ARP rod bolts
491cc Injectors
4 Bar FPR
2.5" Exhaust system
Walbro fuel pump
Coilpack + lead set
3 bar MAP sensor
Helix paddle clutch
Turbosmart dump valve
Intercooler/boost pipes/silicone hoses
K&N air filter
Gizzmo boost controller
Slimline fan
Spoox engine mounts
Battery relocated to behind passenger seat

Sure theres a couple of things i've forgotten, then there's all new filters, plugs, oil and many nuts, bolts and other fittings etc etc :y:

ianpettifer 28th May 2011 19:49

thanks for the spec!
So what does 222bhp feel like on the road?
had a play with anything interesting yet?

quikydan 10th June 2011 22:27

How long would you expect this engine to last on just a decomp plate?
Did the engine have a rebuild?

quikydan 12th June 2011 14:29

can any one else answer this question? :)

Gareth_R 12th June 2011 14:47

If the boost isn't too high, the fuelling is well setup, Intake temps are good etc and it's well maintained, it shouldn't last any less than any other engine

Tufty 12th June 2011 15:19

This is a low boost set up, on a respectable size Decomp plate. And to be honest the guys who built it know what they are doing. As said in previous post the turbo will probably go before the engine does.

Jason

quikydan 12th June 2011 15:31

Thanks for the info.

Was looking to go forged but if you can get over 200bhp from just a decomp and some arp rod bolts then this seems a far better option.

Was with dan last night, lotus exige S got his pants pulled down on 12 PSI when the gizmo had one more to go. On the straights it was rather easy, corners obviously no chance and standard brakes aswell so dan was not driving like a twat.

The owner of the lotus was very upset, and i mean emotionally. :homme:

atspeedracing 27th June 2011 18:37

lol - good stuff ;) stage 1 turbo saxo is a lotus exige S eater :)

good to see the set up is working well. i think our stage 1 kit is the ultimate road package. usable power and when off boost feels just like a normal car. :)

- colin

dannygti 27th June 2011 19:47

thats what i like to hear lads.

these cars are soooo fast when boosted lol

stinkycheese 29th June 2011 19:42

Looking and sounding good. Would have been nice to see her opened up a bit. Shame about the traffic.

paxo89 31st August 2011 18:50

Still going strong! Some complete U-bend decided it would be fun to kick my quarter panel in one night, so she's got a bit of a bruise there. Other than that, nothing's really new i'm sad to report.
Randomly met a guy from sheffield the other night with a home-built 550bhp focus RS, even got to go for a ride in it :D That's spurred me on to get more stuff done to mine! So hopefully, there will be some decent updats in the coming months ;)

dannygti 31st August 2011 19:06

Bad news on the Damage via bellend.

Good news on no issues..
Get the box sorted and wind the boost up

Box is sounding like its ripping its self apart on the inside! Hopefully dan pulls his thumb out of his ass and gets a B/E box and some big brakes! :y:

dannygti 31st August 2011 20:20

Well he's only on low boost in stage 1 so there's LOTS of scope for more, just get the box and brakes sorted like you say, turn a rapid car into an animal :)
