RALLY! Fuck me i should be in bed :D

MJRallying 18th April 2009 20:49

Update: 18/4/09

Finished the rally with only one small problem main coolant hose split so replaced with a silicon pipe we had as spare lucky it went on the 2nd from last corner as the temp was nearly red and there was literally no water left in it!!

Results

Seeded 28th out of 65 - Finished 7th overall and 1st in class by a lead of 42 seconds!!

Was keeping with the evo's as scoobies theres not alot more a 1.6 205 can do if you ask me!!

106CC - That certain 205 wasnt caught by that certain 106 LOL did you have a good day?? Will update with photos later.....

For winning class we got a lovely framed photo going through the watersplash!!!

Luke 18th April 2009 20:54

Well done mate.

Never been to a rally, but reckon I'd enjoy it..

MaRiO89 18th April 2009 20:55

Good stuff Mark..

After taking it steady to begin with lying 5th in class and 27th overall i didnt think we would improve too much, but after the halfway mark it seemed you got the hang of the car in these conditions and took some huge time off people in the stages..

Went from 37 secs behind the leading car to 42 secs infront in 4 stages! LOL..

We need to push harder from the beginning i think in the future so we can get an early lead and try and hold onto it..If we aren't careful we will not finish well in class as the other drivers will get big leads over us early on and if we hit problems then we will defo be screwed..

Had a couple of moments, cant belive how much shit these car's take, some of those bumps were shocking and hitting them at 70+mph is just awesome..:P

Hopefully the onboard vids will be alot better this time etc..

Bring on TSH!

:D

Nice to see everyone who came out to wave both of us out on the stages....

Will update my thread later when I get 10 mins....

Yeh was an awesome day was struggling on the 1st few stages as it was very slippery with the tyres i was using!

Well done to you anyway :)

106CC 19th April 2009 10:54

Well done Mark nice drive, we were 8th overall after the first stage and then managed to beach it near the end of stage 2 and had to take a satge maximum. The rest of the stage times looked good to and i think it would have been a good battle otherwise, like i said well done on first in class and your overall position as the conditions were trecherous. Let me know what you are planning on doing next:clapping::clapping:

Ahh not good mate, im doing TSH in cornwall next :)

I didnt push on the early stages as the conditions were bad!!

Our times would have levelled out to be close you were quicker on some and then i was quicker on some!!

Whats the spec of the 106??

MJRallying 19th April 2009 14:31

Update: 19/4/09

Just cleaned the 205 (excuse phone pics), and drove it up the road to feel for any problems and thought i buckled the rim as it was making a rotational rubbing sound.

Then i found it was a snapped disc in a weird place, some severe handbraking lol

MaRiO89 19th April 2009 15:35

Hardcore..lol..

Ryan 19th April 2009 15:42

slightly fucked disc then.

James im dissapointed in you tbh, posting on shed and not stickering up the 'shed' :P

Cheers mate hard to get a judge of speed from the vid, but in places we were flat out redline in 4th so over 90mph!! :)

Yeh the camera didnt like the bumps :);)

Harv 21st April 2009 21:02

In car is much better quality than last time, awesome footage!! You've done really well dude, glad you see your both enjoying it as well. Car looks like its performing very well and being driven well, as you say, just need to push it harder in the early stages but thats easier said than done. How noisy is it in the car without the intercom system (headphones not on)? As all the cars i've been in you can't even hear the person sat next to you shouting lol.

This car ever going to see some proper rallying in the forests also? :P ;). Can't beat giving it a good thrashing and hitting 90+ on the straights with trees a couple of foot either side :fcuk:

Aron 21st April 2009 21:17

very impressive lads. really like what you have done with this. Keep it up

Yeh its better now im using a different camera!! I didnt want to push hard on the earlier stages as it was very slippery alot of people went out through crashing early on etc....

Hard to get a feel for speed on that video tbh mate...some places are around the 100mph mark, with the intercom off i cant hear the co-driver at all lol

No this car is setup solely for tarmac (sealed surface) rallying and thats where it will stay, my plans are in the few years to either rebuild engine etc and respray this car or buy an ex works S1600 possibly a puma as there very cheap compared to C2's/saxos.....

Its very quick on tarmac so thats where its staying!! :P

Fair play, I understand that speed isn't really demonstrated well by on board cameras, it never is. You feel as though your ploughing through the corners soooo fast but on the on board it doesn't look fast at all. That can be said for all types of driving though lol.

Pahhh, you know forest rallying is where it really lies at :P. Nah, as long as your happy and get the fun factor from it thats all that counts and im sure you bloody are lol! How often does the engine need building roughly? As the cars I have been in, in the past and sometimes help in the service areas need rebuilds after every competitive year. The bills usually come in at around 22k too..eeek...but were talking about WR1 spec focus's here lol.

Looks a very tidy car though, rough round the edges but that's how rally cars are meant to look. As you say, its quick....seems to perform really well for a 1.6 to say the least!!

The engine never needs to be rebuilt just very well looked after ie oil change every 2 events etc etc....costs a fair bit to run and maintain, the last rally i did it was 48 stage miles and i used £35 of fuel lol

Yeh very high strung engines as in WRC cars and S1600's are costly to rebuild and require it often!!

The 205 is looking very rough around the edges at the mo more then most rally cars possibly, after all its dones around 30 rallies now...

Its very well sorted for a 1600, i only bought it from its history not its condition, the previous owner developed it over 2 years and rallied it over that time and got a serious amount of sponsors, then was given an evo 9 to drive for a rally and now getting a brand new fiesta st challenge car paid for by his main sponsor!!

So it proves the car is very capable (even ive proved that already) 1st in class in the event just gone!!

Cheers mate, no i dont follow the 205 challenge as the car isnt challenge spec its far beyond meaning i cant enter due to car regulations!!

Its a very fun little challenge from what ive heard and know about it!!

My car has been built and modified to compete in the 1600 open class which can sometimes prove difficult!!
