Sneakydevil89 1st February 2010 21:39

yeah 500W RMS

Its the exact one you pointed out to me on caraduiosecurity. Found it on ebay and kept an eye on it.

Also...dont suppose you know what bulbs are in my morettes? h4?

Lippy 2nd February 2010 00:38

dont know with morettes tbh bud Id imagine H1's, iirc they are smaller and the morrettes have less space but I could be wrong, best idea is read the writing on the metal part of the bulb tbh.

Good choice in amp! more than enough power for what you want to run rather than buying something smaller saving money and then wanting to change it

Ah you bought the one I was watching! lol

The other one I saw was this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

and my soon to be replaced 4 channel amp on there sold for £26 lol, he wouldnt post it at all so sold cheap

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Sneakydevil89 2nd February 2010 11:26

£26!!! so that one sold for less than i bought my one for and its better?!

Fail lol

Quick question, when you fitted my power cable and wired in the 4 channel, did you keep the off cuts of power cable or did i? just need to know if i need to rummage round in the badger.

Or would it be better to use the 8 guage power cable that was in the westy when i got it?

Might as well wire the amp up, or partially wire it in just dont connect it so its done when i get the sub. (keep your eyes peeled for bargains on those!)

Want to start thinking about tidying the boot up and getting the instal looking like an instal :y:

Lippy 2nd February 2010 21:01

dont think i kept the spares as i went through my box the other day and dont remember seeing it, and I dont use that gauge so wouldnt have been useful to keep, im guessing the badger ate it!

8 gauge power cable in the badger isnt that thick id avoid unless a temporary measure

yeah £26... he would NOT post it, if he would then would have been alot more, i was keeping an eye just incase he replied to say he would post and then id have bid on it tbh

8 guage wouldnt even be suitable for the short length from the dist block to the second amp? I just need something to wire the second amp up with. Might check the badger when i go down to give my calipers a lick of paint.

the amp i bought was a tenner delivery by courier. so shouldnt have been that much more. or are you saying it would haev had more interest if it was able to be posted?

Sneakydevil89 5th February 2010 12:34

Feels like christmas all over again

2 parcels arrived for me today

Just need to get some money and buy a sub now!

Going to go and assess the HID fitting in a minute with my brother. It doesnt look too complicated. just finding out where to bolt everything to and fitting the actual Bulbs.

Updates on the way!

Sneakydevil89 9th February 2010 09:22

UPDATE

right, so this morning, got to the car to give my mum a lift in, turned the key, nothing.

thought i had run out of petrol cus the dial reading is off, so went and got some fuel (and a very overpriced jerry can) but still nothing.

Have to get off to work now, but think its the battery.

Will bump it tomorrow and see whats what.

Either way, im not going to be modding this car anymore. Im going to return it to fairly standard get the bits on it fixed, Mot it, but then i might sell it.

So once iv got her running again, im going to:
  • Remove LED Dials, refit Mk1 fuel pump and STANDARD dials.
  • Replace rear windows with untinted ones
  • Remove lower strut brace
  • Buy/Fit new sunroof
  • (Possibly) Remove morettes and sell

Things like the carpet and the centre console can stay. if i sell it i'll sell it with that in.
Things like the stereo, gti bench, door cards and volt metre can stay for now, but can be removed if i sell.

seeing as how much saxo stuff i got still upgrade wise, if i do sell, i will be DEFINATELY buying a VTS. but it will be a mint VTS. I will be doing nothing to it that could fuck it up. Everything would be done by a garage.

But im looking too far ahead. First got to get this one repaired and sold first.

gsavill90 9th February 2010 11:13

Sucks about it not starting.
One word of advise though.. don't bump start it, use jump leads. A lot safer using jump leads. I blew my engine up by bump starting it :P

When are you planning on selling up?

My insurance company wont let me have a VTS until i'm 25 :P

Lippy 21st February 2010 22:46

no posts for a while and havent heard from you... whats the story?

selling/keeping/repairing.... crushing and buying an S?

Sneakydevil89 28th February 2010 11:29

Sorry havnt really updated in a while! mainly because theyre isnt a huge amount going on.

Iv been desperately saving for MOT and insurance, but things keep cropping up!

This being the first recent problem:

thats a lovely crack about 10inches long

so yesterday i popped down to see jordysports and bought a spare windscreen off him and then one of his contacts from phoenix came and fitted it. did a lovely job.

i did think about leaving it like this though, least this way it woulnt get cracked again...

But as it stands, its going into garage on monday to see how much it will cost to be at "MOT" standard so to speak. if its not too much, ill get it done and re-MOT'd and insured.

If its going to be really expensive ill be buying a push bike and selling it lol

fingers crossed for not too expensive. Got literally LOADS of parts lying around that havnt gone on the car yet.

so we'll see what the future holds for this car in the next few weeks...

...oh and it needs a new gearbox again... lol

landerboi13 28th February 2010 13:34

if you need a cheap mot doing i can get you one through my work mate. let me know. but dont go giving up :n:. stick at it.

Sneakydevil89 28th February 2010 13:45

ooh, that might be ideal mate. my garage is a bit unreliable these days it seems.

i really wanna continue with this car, but its just proving a bit annoying tbh!

really need that engine out, its done waay to many miles and there are patches of rust springing up all over the shop.

but we'll see! i'll let you know pretty soon, think i still got your number.

gsavill90 28th February 2010 14:05

Stick at it man, gotta be worth it in the end!

Also engine out sounds good!
Tbh it's an easy enough job, and i managed to get my vtr engine (on 38k miles) for 120 quid, complete with loom, ecu and everything.
Sell on the ecu and loom and you've got an engine for 70 quid!

Also i wouldn't worry about the rust. When you see what the AX guys have to deal with.. it's shocking!

Adz 28th February 2010 17:19

oww very nice, unlucky about the window pal,
Get them HID's on, i wanted them for mine, but got a new car, so selling up :)

Why dont you sell your westie, and buy mine,
as its up for sale :(

:D
Adz

moxy89 28th February 2010 17:27

adz what car you got?

stay at it mate the car is nice drop a 16v in there...

Lippy 28th February 2010 18:55

stick at it dude! its a sweet looking car in comparison to the badger! everyone says so!

a low milage vtr or even another lower milage furio engine might not be a bad idea! im sure Marc would undertake swapping it over for you and would be cheaper than your garage!

gsavill90 28th February 2010 22:54

If you do swap the engine, i'll come and help you fit it for free if you let me have your old 1.4 engine ;)

how much you selling it for mate?

im putting the HID's in providing it passes MOT, as i dont think it will pass MOT with them in.

well the badger was unique, but the westy is in her own way too.

i might look into a VTR engine actually. wouldnt be too much difference fitting wise and would give a bit of extra umpf.

if you get a moment lippy, could you drop him a text or even if its the next time you see him and ask how much roughly he'd charge to do an engine swap to a VTR.

Well i'm torn between an alloy block 1.4 engine, or an iron block 1.6 engine for the AX.
1.4 would still make it a quick car, and would keep weight down to a minimum.
It would also be more economical :P
1.6 would just be more fun.. but quite a bit heavier :(
Will most probably be looking for a 1.4 engine for summer time ;)

So yeh, if you decided to get rid of the 1.4, let me know!

Sneakydevil89 1st March 2010 15:22

why are you putting a 1,4 in the ax! i thought you it was just a run-around?

car is going into the garage on wednesday and then providing the work that is needed isnt too expensive, ill book it in for MOT straight away. see if i can get it through and then a bit more saving to see if i can afford insurance in one lump again, if not monthly and then the modding begins again i think.

diidsax 1st March 2010 15:32

keep at it, it should be worth it!

Adz

i do not know, you are a weird one sometimes

does this mean no more saxo's for you adz?

Sneakydevil89 4th March 2010 10:37

UPDATE:

well as some know it went into the garage for a check-up before the MOT to sort out the problems it had. My mechanic at the garage phoned me up and said, we've got an open MOT slot, do you want us to put it through and then we know what needs doing.

I thought, yeah why not, seeing as theyre doing the MOT cheaper and i get a free re-test anyway. So through it went...and...FAIL

Havnt seen the official document yet, but what iv been told over the phone is as follows:

- Offside Front tire bald
- Rear Indicator bulbs discoloured
- Front Headlight (morettes) Not fitted correctly and not pointing in correct direction
- Rear brakes not registering any effect (eek)
- Offiside Ball joint In need of Replacement
- Nearside CV Boot not attatched properly, but probably needs replacing

..and now the worrying one...

- Emissions

Apparentely, it not only failed on emissions, the emissions werent even close!
The exhaust has been blowing for a while, which doesnt help emissions, but apparently that coupled with the fact i have an induction kit on caused it to fail.

so im off down to the scrappies by foot to try and get a standard airbox, which could prove fun!

cars getting everything else fixed in the garage today (or at least i hope it will be done by today) then hopefully retest and it'll be ok

Been quoted £350 for the repair work.

Not good! but hopefully everything will be running smoothly when i get her back!

(Though the gearbox is still probably fubar'd)

updates when i know more!

Lippy 4th March 2010 19:01

- Offside Front tire bald
£35 for 13/14" tyre
- Rear Indicator bulbs discoloured
New bulbs £2 from halfords per pair
- Front Headlight (morettes) Not fitted correctly and not pointing in correct direction
Put on old ones £0
- Rear brakes not registering any effect (eek)
New mintex disks and pads £33 Ebay or shoes £15?
- Offiside Ball joint In need of Replacement
106parts.com about £10 iirc
- Nearside CV Boot not attatched properly, but probably needs replacing
Not sure but shouldnt imagine anymore than £30

Exhaust welding £20 dependant on where and how bad.... then redex then hard drive and some carb cleaner.
£10-£15 for airbox

I was just working out how much all these little bits add up for my own info but it really does add up bearing in mind thats - labour :/

Im looking forward to my next mot like a hole in the head now!
ps if it still fails on emissions i might know someone who will ticket it even though bad!
They passed mine :) (decat and all)

James106 4th March 2010 19:07

Unlucky bud :( But keep with it!

adzvtr 5th March 2010 00:35

yeah was thinking of taking it to yours for an MOT this year when i thought about decat (which i still am)

they're STILL working on the car today, this is the 3rd day theyve have it and still havnt given me a proper price or what theyre ACTUALLY doing!

its a bit of a piss take. i was told yesterday that to fix the morettes is an HOURS labour, so £30 for me.

will update when i know, i was told by my mechanic mate that it should be done today.

the badgers wishbones are still on the badger. i would take them off, btu if i do then its going to make getting rid of the shell a pain. But i was thinking of taking them off, respraying and forking out for some solid front bushes you and lippy have.

but we'll see what the garage says when they finally get back to me.

on another note adz, dunno if you read the previous page at all, but iv now decided im prob going to drop a VTR engine in, if you got a mo can you ask marc how much he'd charge for a 1.4-1.6 8V engine conversion?

dont worry if you dont get a chance, but want to know roughly so i know how much to budget. thanks

Jordysport 5th March 2010 12:17

So i better not tell you that i have all those parts kicking about which i could give to you for next to nothing Lol.

Sneakydevil89 5th March 2010 13:31

yeah probably best if you dont!
im hoping this will give me some freedom to catch up on things i needed to do before it breaks again!

1330 and no word from the garage yet :(

Lippy 6th March 2010 00:49

your garage are taking the piss i feel bud! and if i remember correctly you have had the same sort of thing in the past!
need to cut them out of the equasion if they come back and try charging loads! if you ever use them again then ask for a written quote including everything that needs doing and all parts involved that way bill cant climb when they say oh yeah you needed this part so thats an extra £200 etc... they would have to pay out of the quote earnings or call you and get authorisation first for more costs....

When they come back with the final quote post it up or txt me, id be interested to see what they say!

Eskimo 6th March 2010 00:54

Lippy has priced it about right, won't be to much really :/

And emmisions, i think the CAT has totally gone ? .. So basically De-Catted..

Keep at car thoughh! Love this car still! :(

thing is, that because i know the guy at the garage, they do it on teh cheap for me, and i dont get a written reciept. but i cant imagine it being THAT expensive! still no car though, or call, so dont know price yet!

well i immediately thought it was cat, but the garage seem to think not. the lambda was way out but apparently thats because of the blowing exhaust!

they did say though that there was no gasket between the down pipe and the cat! did you know that?!

adzvtr 6th March 2010 16:23

be about 200 quid for the swap m8,
any little jobs like that i dont mind doing m8, the price u r forking out with that garage is stupid, everything can be done easy enough, including rebuilding engines lol, u have my number, dont hesitate to contact or ask kk.

Sneakydevil89 7th March 2010 11:57

thanks mate, i appreciate it.

Well if it is a REALLY high total then i wont be going back there even though my mate is there. like i said i get discount there so if its expensive then that makes it all the more rediculous!

will drop you a text soon about the r engine conversion :y:
