the silver s? yeah i saw that other day when i was over at his unit. it is mint! sounds lush too! yeah i do always have issues, but it was mainly dominos related! should be ok now! Quote:
|
yeah that be the one (:. well hopefully we can see some real good progress now not just fixing bits :(.
|
well here is the update you were all waiting on..
..its still in the garage emissions are still fucked. lambda is ok, other 2 (co2 and no2 i think) so eyes on the cat i think. starting to get annoying now. |
I have a cat but i might need it for mot's etc so cant give you that one.
if you do some research and my spare cat fits your car then you can borrow it for the mot, its tested as being fine and then buy a decat and give it back to me?? save some pemnnies! and might be slightly more responsive with a decat? I always thought the vtr and 1.4's only had the air/fuel lambda in the mani and that was it but i guess your not getting ecu error messages just emissions read at the tailpipe? Has your mechanic tried redex and hard drive and then carb cleaner??? more likely to pass if its been done then driven hard and then straight to the test machine iirc... In fact if he wont pass it sod it il ask my mechanic, £40 for another mot but it will pass! so no need for new cat...? |
ill see what my mechanic says tomorrow. i have the badger, but apparently it has to be new. dont want to buy one new that im only going to replace with a decat.
ill let you know about the MOT, might need to do it at yours. Just hope yours doesnt find anything else that is wrong! |
I like the sound of lippy's mechanic :y:
Good luck getting the car sorted mate. |
yeah i do too
thanks mate, but its geting seriously annoying now! |

UPDATE! its back! at long fucking last the damn thing is home again and it cost me the low low price of £500 :( This is the list of work done (as on the invoice) from the garage: ![]() So basically i have no money again! want to go to trago's tomorrow to get resin and fibreglass to start on my next projects, but i may begin by removing some of the things that were just fixed. Starting with the lights, HID's having been sitting around for too long! EDIT: Almost forgot! the cat that was on the car when i bought it...EMPTY! nothing in it at all! so i baically had a de-cat all this time :P |
Wow nice bill! ouchies... at least the prices were reasonable its not as if they over charged you for everything!
Took their time but I guess you fif get it 'discount' rate. All in all could have been worse but also i guess could have been better... Seems odd that you bought the car with fudged cat and manifold gasket that had been bodged and nobody seemed to know about it :) Well hopefully a year until you have to fork out too much more money! |
yeah did seem very weird, turns out there were quite a few things that werent as legit as i thought. but like you said hopefully will be ok for now!
next major thing is rear beam conversion then r engine, or maybe s depending on finances. im now wondering if i should bother getting a decat at moment as i have a brand new cat on it now. which would only be used for MOT time once a year! also the car sounds very odd with the new cat on. its not blowing but the exhaust is missing something now. you'll have to come over and hear it sometime :P need anything from trago's? think i might go down tomorrow if i get my HID's done ok. |
i need some cable ties!!! a packet of the cheapest 12" long ones and a couple of packets of the 6" ish ones :)
Cheers dude :) |
got you some cable ties^^ spent far too much there!
Got back and had a few hours spare so thought, hell, ill fit my HID's didnt take long actually. Im not happy where the ballasts are at the moment, but i may try and mount them somewhere better soon. Tidied it up as much as i could but still a bit of a mess. ![]() ![]() Havnt got any pics in the dark as i forgot last night, but i drove to Hemyock in the dark and man was it nice to be able to see where i was going! Ballasts dont half make a noise though! Also i pulled my side lights out so i could swap them for some SMD LED bulbs but now cant get them back in, which is annoying me! so i currently have no side lights. But im thinking temporarily i might mount the side light in the inside lense. We'll see though. Now onto interseting things... ...had the car back 1 day and im pleased to report its still not fixed... ...its got through the MOT, but the grinding noise coming from offside front arch area has got worse. I thought this was the bottom ball joint they replaced, but even at low speeds, and even reversing its making these noises. Not happy about that. Im more not happy about this though, the back box, centre section and cat are all fitted nicely and dont blow, but now my mani is blowin...REALLY BADLY...so im thinking i may just buy a 4-2-1 as i'll be wanting one for the VTR engine anyway. Think i saw one on here going for about £100 so might see if i can get that one! Then it'll be over to lippy's mechanic or adz/marc to beg them to fit it for me :P more updates to come i hope! And ill get some HID night shots tonight. |
bring it down m8, no point spending on fitting a mani, i will happily do it, will also check this issue with grinding for u, and can chat about future ideas im helping lippy today with his.
|
of course its friday isnt it. lost track of days. you free on monday? im kinda stuck at home waiting for a virgin engineer to turn up :(
|
When I fitted my HID's I fitted the right hand ballast in the fuse box, somehow it fitted, but they might have been slightly smaller than yours. And the one on the left fitted behind the ECU quite easy.
|
might try that actually, but the left hand one wont go into the ecu where i had intended it as i have a single plug ecu and the ecu is pretty huge. so no chance ill get it under there.
ill give it a proper tidy soon but its ok for now! |
thought it looked like liams
|
has this got a vts engine in ? or still 1.4 like when liam had it?
|

and no still 1.4. |
Carn't wait to see the HID's on :P
Nice bill also Lmao, £100 for a bottom arm :S you can pick them up for around £50 - £60- pal, Buy my westcoast, and don't go spending silly money :P Loving the car atm though mate :) keep up the good work, Adz:) |
the lhs ballast should fit under the euc tray fine as all the ecus' trays are the same size so space underneith should be the same?
Im not happy with where my rhs one is and it wont reach the fuse bos tray without extending the wires :(, a job for a rainy day! Its amazing the difference HID's make isnt it! Just angle them down or the pigs will pull you for them! Sounds like the car needs to be seen by adam tbh... he has pulled that area apart enough to know whats up i should imagine! |
Quote:
yeah thebill was annoying and its still got a whole list of problems. its not cool! Quote:
as for angling them down, how do i do that? is theyre a headlight adjuster in the car? cant remember now! yeah if your free monday i was planning on popping down to see him and get him to take a looksie. Anyways, HID night shots :P ooooh ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
UPDATE:
Popped up the M5 to jordysports earlier to sort out my sunroof. He had one spare on his latest pug so i found some dolla and had that off him. He helped me fit it and after a little while, a handful of dremmel disks and some very rusted screws, the new one was in! ![]() As its from a 106 its not identical to the one i had, but it fits fine. has a few dimples on the top which looks a bit off but will do for now! Lets just hope once it starts raining again taht it doesnt leak! I also found this quite interesting, had a look at my down pipe and exhaust manifold and you can see why its blowing so bad! theyres a HUUUGEEE gap! so out came the exhaust sealer, got that on ...still blowing... so jacked the car up, and between the cat and the downpipe the garage had JUST worked on was also blowing. So some sealer on that and its sounding much better now. ![]() Still not 100% and prob wont last long, but will do for now! 4-2-1 is still the plan soon. AND finally found out what the grinding noise was, its my lowerbrace rubbing on the bottom arm (which has just been replaced) not sure what to do as i dont really wanna get rid of the bottom brace. ideas? |
Exhaust wrap stuff, buy a roll for your 4-2-1 manifold then use a bit around your strut brace this will be heat resistant (near the exhaust and it will stop in making a metallic knocking. :y:
On the way home, left at about 12:24 and managed to get home before 12:30 :D :D . MGF FTW. |
i will see what i can do!
haha thats pretty impressive! i thought i hadnt done somethng up properly on way home so pulled into services a bit worried, but turns out i didnt close my door properly lol mished it home in no time :p |
Quote:
was quite funny seeing two posi sax's infront both 1.4's and i could tell that most weren't far from the throttle stops lol. 1.8 vvc just cruise up behind :P. did poke the throttle a few times tho just for the pleasure of the sound. also i rekon i went through about 8 dremel bits and snapped a grinding stone off lol. |
so the stuff which your mechanic fixed he actually didnt fix!!! it sounds like you should have gone back there and pointed out your not a mug and you realise they didnt fix it properly tbh... either that or im getting the wrong end of the stick!?!
HID's look brighter and whiter than mine im wondering if you bought 4700/4000k bulbs??? if you did make sure they are adjusted to the floor when you see the old bill ;) |
sorry about that dude! appreciate the effort!
to be honest i was holding back! i didnt wanna give it too much beans as theyre was this rattle coming from the door (as it wasnt closed properly) so i could have given it some more juice :P but was good times! |
Update:
One of the things that has been annoying the crap out of me for some time is the fact that my intermitant wipers dont work...This was annoying, but i got by. However yesterday on way back from jordysports, they stopped working all together :( so on my last day off i decided to sort it out! I changed the fuse and wiped the old stalk out the badger and swapped it across... ![]() ![]() ...Now the medium and fast settings were working, but still no intermitant! Last idea was the relay, which in honesty i should have changed first lol fortunately lippy had left the wiper relay in the badger when he took the rest out. so got that one from theyre and hey presto! ![]() Also started work on my smoothed boot popper. Plastic welded in a plate i cut from a random plastic ducting from the badger i had lying about and then fibreglassed over the top of that. ![]() ![]() In hindsight, i probably should have welded the plate to the front of the boot popper and behind it as ill have to build it up with filler more now. Will update at next stage :P |
Very nice!
Smoothing the boot lock is a good little mod :P You planning on debadging aswell? |
probably not, i like the badges, but i may still get rid of them. probably should take the ones off the badger seeing as the current ones are looking rather nakered!
smoothed bootlock should look ok, got some posi blue spray cheap as well which is helpful! just need to sweet talk lippy to help me with the boot popper once its all done :P |
so in the end it was the stalk for part of the wiping switching and the relay for the others... lol who'd have thought it :)
At least yours was sorted in 1 day! im still trying to work out why my battery keeps going flat :( Boot popper is a no no... dont buy a solonoid! all it needs is a central locking mechanism! about £5 from ebay, we want the one with 2 cables not 5! ;) |
Quote:
still no luck with the battery ey? hmm, thats not great! |
Any news on the car?
You've been silent for a while :( |
Ive spoken to him over the phone and he was meant to be getting back to me... maybe he's dead?
Only jokin' iirc Sneaky isnt having the best of luck with his car recently |
despite popular demand im not dead!
nah, havnt had best of luck with this car. I shall re-cap: Bought the Car in November: - 2 Weeks later - Gearbox & Clutch went - £450 (and using the 1.1 box) - New Windscreen - £55 - MOT - Failed badly - New cat, old one was empty! - Total Bill - £500 - New Sunroof - £30 - New Exhaust manifold - £95 Its running ok at the moment, but we'll see. Gearbox is still making some weird noises. Also the squeek from front nearside wheel is still there. Not done anything to it but clean it recently. Think i may buy a Sub and Some 17cm Comps for the back, but tahts all im doing for now as i plan to move out soon. Got a few pictures of recent activites. some of which make me cry :( Also removed my lower strut brace as i had bashed it on somethign and it was grinding against the lower arms...FAIL ![]() ![]() ![]() New boot install FTW? ![]() ![]() And the day that inevitably had to come...The badger was taken away. So i took everything i possibly could off it. Fromt start - Finish From this: ![]() ![]() To this: ![]() ![]() And the day it went: ![]() ![]() ![]() All the stuff from it sorted (kind of) in the garage And the Shell...RIP Badger ![]() Maybe some udpates coming soon, but i wouldnt hold your breath! Sorry i didnt ring you back lippy, i was quite drunk when you rang me that time and completely forgot the next day! |
lol no probs bud! you can make up for it by coming to Modified Mania again this year and keep me company!
just edit'd the thread! |
