For every1 saying that spaying them black wil fail an mot.. Well ur wrong because mine are exactually the same and my mot was last week and it passed with ease =)

w31mrk 6th November 2011 09:41

I'm tempted to do mine... Looks very easy and the difference is awesome! Good simple guide to follow but I will probably use either a heat gun or a hair dryer... The oven stuff scares me a little

NismoSteve 17th December 2011 18:35

Excellent guide(s) here, somone had broken the adjuster on my off side headlamp anyway so needed an excuse to get this done. People, don't worry about MOT / legality of this. As long as the reflector is not touched nor the lamp shroud its fine. For those who have removed the shroud or painted the reflector it depends how lazy the MOT tester is whether they notice. Same goes for the old bill, depends how knowledgeable or picky they are. But I would only advise painting the surround.

DundeeUnited 14th January 2012 22:07

on the pics, the guy has removed the reflector, do you have to take the reflector out at anytime or does it just stay in its position, even if i take the surround out?

DundeeUnited 16th January 2012 21:15

:bump:

ryesVTR 22nd February 2012 03:27

Just came across this thread. Excellent stuff! Big thumbs up!

Sinque 11th March 2012 00:12

This is so much more difficult than it looks... Glue everywhere, hot glass, oh such a mess...

link_heroz 11th March 2012 00:19

Did anyone else have to take off the bumper to get the bottom bolt off the light?

I can't get the bottom bolt off. I've tried everything, the bumper just sits half an inch too high to get in.

sam_16v 11th March 2012 12:55

Yep. I'm taking the bumper off soon to do some repairs, stone chips, wide mouth/mesh and a respray anyway so I'll do it then.

bbracer16valver 14th February 2013 01:59

Nick_Bush 13th April 2013 23:07

I can confirm an oven is better to split the light than a halogen heater!!

Dawzy 14th April 2013 08:35

Picsss??

TzarSimeon 30th June 2014 15:58

Tbh I pre-heated my oven for 5 min at 140 C and then I kept each headlight in for 2 mins, it was enough to remove the glass. I'll post some picks of the end result tomorrow.

Tavik 11th July 2014 16:13

for those asking you can do the same with mk1 lights!

it's exactly the same with mk2 lights! i personally used heat gun to open them unfortunatelly i don't have pictures of the progress! go for it it's an easy mod to do!
