How can they get it 90degrees out?!

All you have to do is lock everything off!! FFS

webby 1st May 2010 18:19

dont know ross but if its damaged anything i think that will be it for me with it.

i think thet tried unbolting the timing belt pulley and taking that off then tried getting it to tdc without it being connected to the crank if that makes sense.

If he just tried to start it with it that far out then you might get away with nothing to serious in terms of valves bent, if any at all.

It's a hard one where to go from here really - I'd get the belt setup properly, then try and turn it over by hand, if feels all okay then worth trying to compression test it.

Surely he'll pay for anything that needs doing ?

At worst, your head off, replace a couple of valves, rebuild the head and all back together ?

I know the feeling of not knowing if you've got any valve damage - it's not nice at all, especially when you've spent a lot on the car

Give me a shout if you need a hand with anything - Manchester isn't a stupid distance away from Loughborough

That's bad news webby

Don't get to :drink:

Andy_K 1st May 2010 18:43

Thats crap news mate. Worst case though either rebuild the head or pick up a 2nd hand head and swap over (JP4 maybe?) and bill the guy for it all

update:
the engine is fine and once i had put it back to tdc and locked everything off it was all good.
started it up and there was a screechy squeeky noise. tracked it back to a brand new guide pulley from the timing belt kit had no grease in it and after only 5 mins of running was showing more signs of wear than the 74k one i took off.

so with that sorted it's now a champion again only a few more bits and it should be up for driving again.

raunchz 3rd May 2010 20:23

Good to hear it mate!!

Time to enjoy!!

I didn't have time to it myself (exams to study for) so I got a work lacky still a mechanic to come and do it at our workshop.

I'm glad it's turned out the way it has could have been alot worse.

I'm going to be putting the ledas on too with 225's and seeing how they go at fcs. I will still have my standard legs ready to go on if they don't work to well.

Olly 3rd May 2010 22:31

sure theyll be fine man! Hopefullly wont have all the problems i had fitting my struts! Leda should be better though! haha

webby 7th May 2010 22:41

i never want a day like today again.

1st of all fit new wheel bearings in the leda lags a bastard in its own right.

i then remove the standard suspension legs i only managed one because things were siezed, i wouldnt mind i had the leg off recently and everything went back together with copper grease on it.

then i had to machine up some collars for the legs (which i forgot to fit) as im now using standard top mounts.

i finally get into a position were i can fit a leg, off the car the look pretty much identical length wise.
i fit it and put a wheel on get a measuring tape out and the leda makes the wheel sits 3" higher in the wheel arch. so makes the car 3" lower

so tomorrow i will fit the other leg and see what the dealio is.

oh and a side note there looks to be AT LEAST 2degrees neg camber in the legs.
which looks mega and will be good on track but on the road may cause problems. i will confirm how much is in them when i get the camber gauge on it tomorrow.

anyway lets hope everthing works out when the other leg is on and the collars are fitted.

pics i will get tomorrow when im not rushing around like a mad man.

saxokid100 8th May 2010 00:38

Sounds good man!! hope it goes well for you.....

webby 8th May 2010 13:00

Ledas are on and sorted and it's works out in down about 30 which gives me a slightly nose end down stance which if fine by me.
They are 225lb springs.
Geometry is still miles out but I have untill June to set it up. The remote res are fitted to the front cross member out of the way I have fitted a cold air feed which sits behind the passenger front wheel arch so it has nice cool air to suck on.

Only managed a couple of pics will get more later.

AndySAXO 8th May 2010 13:08

is that rear damper how it sit on the floor with the weight on it?

looks good, should have a good track setup :P

webby 8th May 2010 13:23

Yep that's with weight on it. Tge pic makes it look at a funny angle if that's what you are thinking.

AndySAXO 8th May 2010 13:29

na i was looking at the clearance on the dampers that all, what hieght is the car at?

as my AST rear damper, which sit the other way round lol, does have that much movment, i am going to raise my car me think too low for these days!

webby 8th May 2010 13:38

The car is down 25mm on the rear. It has a really good stance I think maybe not massivly important but an added bonus.

The geometry is miles out it it has loads of toe out. Which is making hard to judge how much camber it has in but it looks a fair amount.

AndySAXO 8th May 2010 13:42

yer mine is down 50 mm due to been lower before i started to go down the total track route

so i will be raising my rear to about 30mm

yer i need to camber in my life :P
