The blue dials look awesome... but I'm left with a big "what if..."
I have some soldering experience, but are the contacts of the smd's near any critical parts of the pcb? Since using scrap yard dials from another mk2 will ruin the mileage, I don't want to be left with a half working dash when I f*ck up a contact.
I agree jhonnyg_vts, one extra reason to visit the forums... ;)

Related to Dash rings: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94507
I finally found a store which is willing to supply not only the tacho and speedo rings, but also the surrounds for the coolant, fuel and oil gauges as well. The only problem is, they need the exact measurements of those dials.
Since some of you are taking your dials out for soldering, can you please measure up those dials in mm; radius, depth, size etc. (if possible with photo)? Or are there any detailed drawings of the dial layout (with measures), I've already looked all over the net but couldn't find anything.

the whole unit ie motor or just the needles themselves?? just use 2 spoons either side and lever them up applying the same pressure on each of them, they will come off, you think there going to break but should be ok, mine have been off about 10 times no problems

Grrrrr!

I CANT get the petrol needle out :| iv tried tweezers its not happening

TU-Tuning 14th August 2007 21:29

pull it up a little bit with long nose pliers, then grab in with you finger and thumb and gently pull.

and pred, the rev meter motors for the needle, they keep going all mental

Predator_R32 14th August 2007 21:34

yeah some needle nose pliers should get them off, dont worry about damaging the middle bit you dont see them anyway

ben make sure the needles are pushed in properly and check the wires and plug are all ok

as said there bulbs most likely, they twist and pull out, also you will have to replace the dial faces due to them having a green filter on them, which you cant get off, so its eitehr lockwood dials with some blue bulbs or some plasma dials, theres a group buy on them too :y:

betty02 15th August 2007 23:39

i aksed about the plasma dials, are they a straight swap simple as and will they fit, thing the ones like mine with light changes look a litle takey imo you agree? have green neons in car so if change them to green will i have to remove the green filter

time_to_ride 15th August 2007 23:44

Almost finished my dials execept 1 fukin LED will not work (which knocks 2 others out in the serise)

I've de-soldered it 4 times and used 4 other LEDs and all the other LEDs I've done are fine...I dont know what it cud be and i dont know what to do :S

Plz help

did you not which way they went before you took them out, as they only work one way, the cut off on the corner determines the positive side

betty02 16th August 2007 00:18

well ok ive never checked them in he dark before, never been out at night as not passed test, and the buggers dont fooking work why not? all the lights work other then behind the dials, just hoping that its a loose connection, and not be stupid turned twisted and pulled everything, they come on dont they when i put my lights on?

Predator_R32 16th August 2007 00:28

betty02 16th August 2007 00:32

im being stupid and shit lazy know but were abouts??? is that all it is then?

Predator_R32 16th August 2007 00:35

well the knob that sticks out to change the time you can press in, could be that mate, probablies a good chance it is, have they always been like that??

betty02 16th August 2007 00:37

well like said never taken her out in dark as i havnt passed, thing is i was going to do this mod and attempted to take dials out but couldnt unplug em, think i may have loosed the conenction? or would that switch them all of?, ryt gona go in2 my car, at nyt, in dar, in boxers, and fidle with little nobs

betty02 16th August 2007 00:56

right im back, had 2 nobs, one was to put milage counter to 0000000000, thats all it would do, the other only did the clock, i twisted, pushed pulled and all it would do is the clock, hoping now i just loosened the connecxtion!!

Predator_R32 16th August 2007 01:03

try the right hand one, you have to have the ignition on or the car started iirc

betty02 16th August 2007 01:05

had egnition on, not started would wake everybody up, will try again 2mo the 2 i found i tried everythign with em and nout happened grr ffs lol

Predator_R32 16th August 2007 01:10

ill check too mate, im surer the engine needs to be started, if it doesnt work then be best to take them out to clean the bulbs or replace them and also clean the dials
