Car Broken into, need security advice!

Couple of weeks back my lock was put through and my head unit was taken, ive fixed it all back up now, and was looking earlier and i will be using the guide to remove my door pins!

My car is a 2001 Saxo Forte 1.1i, and it comes with no kind of security what so ever. So im just wondering what kind of alarms/immobalisers you guys would suggest and where to get them from? Also at a tidy price, i dont want to be breaking the bank :P

Thanks.

you can get an alarm supplyed and fitted for around £150 for a good brand. Dont be tempted by the cheap crap that they sell on egay as its sh1t. You can get Clifford alarms fitted for around £200.
Whats your budget?

I was looking at anything up too £100 as money is tight at the minute and its going elsewhere, but obviously my car security is important lol.

Ive been into motorworld and they showed me some movement sensor ones for like £60. I just think that its going to be cheap and nasty..

Mate dont go to motor world as they are just kids trying to pretend that they know about car audio and security, try going into a car audio and security shop and see what they can offer you. I think if you could go to £130 then you may stand a chance of getting a very basic alarm. Try asking for gemini, cobra or meta as they do good cheap alarms.

Ok thanks for that, it did seem abit to good to be true and abit cheap and cheerful lol.

Nice to speak to someone who knows what theyre talking about.

Thanks

No probs mate i have been fitting car alarms for about 8 years now and have seen and fitted the cheap crap and it comes stright back and all you get is problems, if you can afford it then try to get a known brand, also ask about toad as they do cheaper alarms.

go to your local car audio shop, ask howmuch... then say "i only have £100" 99% of the time they will do the deal, if they stick firm and wont budge just say "cool, ill go try a few other place's as i realy dont have more than £100" and stick to it. remember vat and fitting charges it must all be within your budget. (we are in a ressetion they buyer has the upper hand take advantage)

MR_TOAD 26th January 2009 19:46

Be carefull you may end up with the budget alarm they could never sell

heres an idea, dont have the stereo on display! Hide it in the glovebox

Elliott 27th January 2009 13:34

Heres a better idea....leave your glovebox open so they cant see nothing is in there and take your HU with you.

Yeah, audi used to do a cover that folded down over the stereo on the a6 iirc, they never got broken into cos it could have been the dvd version or the tape version. Wasnt worth the risk i guess!

I agree i used to live in Barking and every night i would take out the shelf, sub box with amp on the back, radio out and leave the glove box open. Never got broken into.. But others in the road did LOTS.

stay away from toad alarms, my car got broken into, (with no head unit in car) they took stealth shelf, parcel shelf, bass boxx 2 amps and 6speakers, left boot open and the alarm didnt go off, i couldnt get into my car tho as it was locked, toad alarms = crap

Lyum 29th January 2009 12:19

Wow scottish, thats harsh, glad I havent upgraded anything but the door speakers in mine yet, the wierd thing was tho, when mine was broken into they must have been car theft virgins, because they didnt even take the full HU. They only took the snatch plate lmao. I sat laughing at them for a while.

MR_TOAD what you need my postcode for dude?

Thanks for the tips btw guys, much appreciated :):)
