Mowing my lawn

I just noticed a thread on grass didn't bother reading it so thought here is as good of a place as anywhere to ask when I should cut my grass for the last time before winter.

Also how do I get the lines in it?

ThrushMotorsport 16th October 2012 10:56

Buy a rover, perfect lines from it, also picks up the grass, you should cut your grass about 6 times a year, about now is where the last cut should be, as when winter comes.. It won't really grow lol

Giraffe 16th October 2012 10:59

Instead of watering it as well, put Vodka or Whisky on it.

The lines are created by which way you cut or roll it. Only cut it when it's dry otherwise it'll be shit.

I'm intrigued, why only 6 times??

you must work on a pitch/course or something, lol. either that or a gardener

pretty much what he said but i dunno about the six times a year rule.

its been pissing of rain here the last few days so i think one dry day and that's when it'll get cut (my bosses estate)

Jay_ 16th October 2012 11:13

6 times? bollocks.

I love the smell of freshly cut grass!:A:

Chris_ 16th October 2012 11:20

Use a chainsaw to trim the edges

Sam 16th October 2012 11:21

I did mowed the law possibly for the last time about 2 weeks ago, just before all the rain. All depends on the weather tbh.

Seasonal cuts are 6-8 times a year, freshly cut grass smells nice, but really we used to do grass mid march to october, I prefer using flymo's.. But lines can be squigly if your shit with one, and you need to rake up your grass afterwards, but its much better in my view.

What a load of bollocks. Where do you get that figure from?

Grass gets cut whenever it gets too long.

This.. Must have cut mine about 15 times this year, easily! If id done it 6, by the time id cut it each time, the mower would struggle to get over it!

+1. I challenge you (without a fucking strimmer) to only cut my lawn 6 times a year. Leave it > 2 weeks over summer than the mower clogs practically!

ThrushMotorsport 16th October 2012 14:00

I loled, ok sir, obviously you do it for a living with your expertise and can define long grass with your electric plug in mower that can't get over slightly grown grass.

I take it you don't cut your average lawn then eh?

I have a petrol mower.. You don't have to be in the "business" to know when you need to cut your grass.. Maybe you have a ride on mower that can take down 6" tall grass, but most households have normal ones, which will take 3"ish of grass.

I lolled back at the gardener being facetious.

My mower, bought like millions of others, was from a shop that sells mowers, amongst other various household/diy items. I'm sorry it doesn't match the spec of your uber-i'm-a-fucking-gardener-motherfucker ride on, mow down forests v8 400bhp nitrous powered monstermower, but it doesn't.

Long grass to me is defined as something that looks untidy. Really long grass is something that looks untidy and is harder to cut (for my weedy Flymo).

I'm sorry our definitions differ. You're clearly the man to come to when I have some sort of garden wide horticultural crisis.
