Wrote Off? :(

Ok right the police have my car at the moment. And so far as I know the radiator is completely f*ck*d bent backwards towards the engine. Now I'm not gunna lie but I dont know what some parts of the engine are called (only had the car 3 months), but the blue thing (big circluar) must be damaged. Indicators have popped from their housing. And bumper is smashed at front.

Does anyone have an idea of whether the car is wrote off? Or how much it shall cost me to repair and whether it's worth it?

Full story here (can skip if need to):

Was out late last night and had just drove back with another friend (the one I usually mention in threads with the 306) if you live in the midlands you'll probably remember it was raining and my cars tyres were tbh over inflated and i was sliding a bit too much :n: we drove him back to east hunsbury and we headed off with four people in the car (me being not confident as it was wet) came off the A roads and they wished to go through the country (so they could finish listening to the album playing!) we went back through roads I'd never been on but knew it was heading back.

Went over one humpback bridge and began to slow down as It said the next one was round the corner, next thing I knew I was slowing myself down to get to 30mph (Still in 5th!!!) and must of been doing 40 when (apparently according to police) the front must of hit the top of the bridge due to most weight at front the tyres had no chance of gripping the road and I had slid as I must have landed.

The car went in the air and i span the wheel fully to the left and landed just a little off the road into a pillar! The airbag deployed and my friends were screaming, hopped out the car as fast as possible due to steam. Now luckily we're all sensible (to some extent) people and rang everyone we needed to (After we found where we were), but we had no idea where we were as the last sign was for Gayton. My best friend calmed me down as he was a leader in St.Johns.

I was In hysterics and crying etc. and no car came along for 20mins! A young bloke came along in his BMW I'd pulled him over and he chatted to the people at emergency services and everything was sorted out from there.

We're all fine as I had slowed down just enough, I'm so pleased my airbag came out though as my chair had slid completely forward :(

My driving Instructor (Uncle) Is coming round (to yell at me) to help me with my car, but it cost me to store the car at this place where the police have it. I'm either gunna restore the car or Pull bits off (maybe smoke the headlights) sell the rear MK1 jewels interior etc. (nothing fancy just spares) part from jewels they're lovely :)

Miss the car already and it felt like a horrible dream just wish it was :( I'm just so glad everyones ok, I mean who cares it was everything I had worked for put into that car... :n: :(

I will tell you what my choice is this evening, thanks for taking the time to read

.
(note to reader, any seriously harsh comments shall result in bad rep... think before you type I'm still very shook up and thankful I'm alive.)

vipergfx 3rd September 2007 10:09

unlucky mate.. would need pics tbh..

also wats the spec of the saxo? could be easier to write off if its not worth much

makaveli144 3rd September 2007 10:09

Hard to judge but Im guessing the car is quite old so they may write it off. But I think its allowed to cost up to 75% of the cars worh before they write it off.

doely_gti 3rd September 2007 10:12

guttin, @ least ur all ok, car prob be written off which is a shame but these things are sent 2 test us ay m8

Scattle 3rd September 2007 10:13

Really bad news mate, sounds quite a bad ordeal. Not sure if it's a right off, have to have pictures as it is a bit vague, hopefully it is not, and it can be repaired.

R4T 3rd September 2007 10:20

sounds bad mate, depends on the value of your car mate

shooorn94 3rd September 2007 10:25

Yeah had my camera on me but i was shaking too much to photograph it :( err... I'll do a bodge job on Paint to show you how far back the damage went and where it went.

Sorry if you cant read the writing, basically the red indicates the damage to eterior (visible at time) the yellow shows (about) where the damage went to.

When she rolled off (luckily she rolled onto the truck, the officer let me have a look under (Radiator was leaking as guessed)

the car was a 1.1sx mk1 N reg. (96) cost me 1700 in total. (with AA warranty which would prob now be void :n:) I'm going to asses the damage and put pics up later but I really can't afford to have her fixed and keep her longer than needed at the garage... cheapest option to have her crushed  and i was just looking forward to going to my first Sax-P meet like in a month or so :(

Scattle 3rd September 2007 10:33

Yup, get some pics up later, to see the extent of the damage, what about selling it for parts?? make a bit of money that way.

shooorn94 3rd September 2007 11:02

Yeah was thinking of selling some of her parts if can't repair at least it'll cover the cost of the tow truck (£181) my CD player is still in the car (£160) and I don't know how to remove it :n:

Oh and my cars TPFT so all damage costs are mine... Have to decide whether to keep her and pay out (mum reckons its gunna cost me £700 with labour costs) but I dont want a bad job done! I only have around £700 saved for uni :( does anyone know of a good place in Northants?

Scattle 3rd September 2007 11:18

I would keep the £700 for uni, see what's best from damage pics.

Ahh thing is I'm commuting to uni (by train) which is covered by uni Bursary's and my accomodation is my own home which i dont pay board on so its a tough one. Thing is I wouldnt care if I drove around with different panels/bumpers, as long as I can get it on the road.

I mean I'm sure you guys will help me out with spraying etc.

Do you think there will be many problems with my car after the crash, as in from the shock etc.? :( I don't think my car will be covered by the warranty anymore (its the AA warranty-paid £300 for)

shooorn94 3rd September 2007 18:08

Right in my opinion she's wrote off completely with damage over 2 grand, try to notice what damage has been caused, tbh it doesnt look much from outside but how i hit the pillar messed the car up.

bide_furio 3rd September 2007 18:12

looks like a write off cos tht bottom support bar looks and is probs bent!

lyndon 3rd September 2007 18:17

I believe that's the slam panel... if it is, can be fixed

Looks like a jig job, the engine looks shoved out of place, so hard to see how much damage has actually been caused

frankie 3rd September 2007 18:18

i didnt think it looked to bad.

atleast your kk though bud.

Saxy1 3rd September 2007 18:20

the insurance company will write it off mate, as the damage will cost more than the car is worth.

bide_furio 3rd September 2007 18:23

dont think thats the slam panel at the bottom think its part of the shell! at least ur ok tho!

asiftosay06 3rd September 2007 18:36

mine was miles worse than that and it was back on the road in a week! dont worry pal

SNewham 3rd September 2007 18:43

Looks like a definate write off to me mate. An impact like that low down will cause a large amount of mechanical issues, the engine has twisted round by the look of it and you've completely mashed the lower slam panel.

*EDIT* - you'd be better cutting your losses, splitting it and then moving on.

Yep it is a jig job but apparently jigging it cost a ton of money so thats out of the question. I'm taking everything off (engine in honesty is fine getting a bloke I know to remove it and selling it off) alot of hassle which shall *hopefully* be worth it.

cheers mate :)

I honestly didnt think it looked too bad, but a little damage cost a ton... remember the car went up then landed down onto the barrier (horrible experience) airbag apparently would cost the most :( stupidthing that saved my life! lol

shooorn94 3rd September 2007 19:56

just found a car a year younger than mine done less miles cheaper than i bought her. Same colour, same engine, still SX and still 1.1i :D If alls well i may purchase. :y:

shooorn94 30th September 2007 23:33

Ignore that... now with my 1.1i X red 98 reg saxo, loving her.. but dont have the same feeling for the old one.. strange :panic: I suppose got the feeling that its just a car now. But still looking after the car and cleaning her way too much, had it for a week now everything going fine :D and an exhaust which has done about 500 miles... horrible tinny bedding in noise again!

But most of all NO MORE WHIPLASH :y:

Lee_P 30th September 2007 23:41

glad is all now ok mate

i'll take the engine off you. how much? and how man miles has it got on?

DavidKent 1st October 2007 09:40

Blimey mate thats pretty bad too!
Definately a write off though, 65% of the cars value would be a Cat D for uneconomical repair anyway!
Atleast you're ok mateyyy...
Most places don't replace airbags now, as its so expensive - Would be cheaper to put an aftermarket wheel on if you repaired yourself, just means you'd have no airbag!

David

Gazzza 1st October 2007 11:29

whats the catagorys for write offs?

leats ur ok m8 :)

DavidKent 1st October 2007 15:25

Cat D is uneconomical Repair I think.
Cat A and B are Totally beyond safe repair, and unsure of what Cat C is.

WalkerVTR 1st May 2008 09:33

Looking at furios and westcoasts at the minute for septemeber, 3rd saxo? :fcuk:

The white sax is still on my drive, gotta get rid by summer, my grass needs to be cut!

Ashleyp 1st May 2008 12:50

best thing to do is take it to a few garages mate.. if they can give u a quote for repairs which suits you, then get it back on the road.. if not then you could take everything apart and sell each item

Ashleyp 1st May 2008 12:51

oh and i think cat D is write off.. not 100% tho.. but i went to look at a car last year. i found out it had cat C damage. they said id have to inform the police before its back on the road. if it was cat d it would have been unsafe to drive..

cant quote me tho as i say not 100%

google it
