Ye olde legend - Swimming p.12

Thought I might as well start a thread on this for all you girls,

Allot of the old school members know this car allot better than the new members will, basiclly I bought this of cammedvtr last year sometime and for a year it's been sat in my garage feeling sorry for it's self collecting dust,

Anyway, I thought I should sort it out now as this month my green saxo is getting replaced with a clio v6 so this is going to be used as me daily drive and general shop runner. Not spending money on it, it's just generally getting cleaned up and brought back to it's former glory. Might be tempted to sort the fueling out on her in a couple of months or so because it's running a bit lean without a remap but it's not a major.

Before I bought it off alex he replaced allot of the cars major parts, breaks, head gasket, fuel tank... twice *wipes tear* :fcuk: ooo the memories of the nurburgring, drive shafts etc.

Some older images;

The work begins; nice dusty engine.

First thing I have done is replace the old Magnex with my straight through piper system of my other saxo. Always hated magnex back boxes..

Second task; work from the inside out... Inside is immaculate so I just got the car up in the air and started on the underneath.

*yuck*

De-grease, wash and sand away rust.

De-greaser at work, good stuff.

One coat of paint later,

Underneath will get another 2 coats of paint before I seal it all off, next job after that will be the engine. Will start by taking the battery out etc and re-painting all bit's that need doing and generally whore it again. Plus re-heat wrap the manifold;

Rotary was ordered last week to sort out craigy180's paintwork, but before it goes anywhere near his mine needs doing.. alex took a liking to the kosavons.. he always was an engine man :P, pah.

Shall keep this updated for you all, should be back on the road this month. Can't wait to finally take her out for a real drive :)

Peace out hommmmies.

Aye engine bay is a nice example, she was well looked after so all credit goes to previous owner for that. Runs better than mine and it's 5 years older with 50k more miles on the clock lol

Yea man, went to look at 2 the other week but none of them were really perfect. Just looking for the right one really now me accountant has given me the all clear :)

Harv 3rd June 2008 00:15

Wow thats a nice car seeing as though its been 'sitting on the drive'. Engine bay looks nice and clean too :y:.

As for the Clio V6, there fooking awesome!!!! Love the look of them, hmmm if only I had the money :P.

James 3rd June 2008 00:19

Sorry I took ages to write my comment as I was looking at something else. Didn't see what you said ;). Still a nice car though never the less. The engine bay is still clean though even with the dust - just not to your standards :P.

frankie 3rd June 2008 00:30

there a blue one around my area and its lush.

the V6 they used in the clio is the same as the 406 coupe's and it sounds mint.

i hope you find the perfect v6 your looking for.

Hnmmm nice, having second thoughts about doing mine now haha.

Raz 3rd June 2008 00:55

car will look spot on once you have sorted it out properly James :y:

having a cammed VTR isnt bad as a daily driver / weekend shopping trolly tbh!

122bhp....and it hasnt had a remap? thought the rule was always if someone purchases cams...to get a remap aswell to see full potential etc...i know it wasnt your fault before you say....

i wonder if it will end up as nice as the green one....

Whats the spec of the whole car dude?

Yates 3rd June 2008 01:05

James 5th June 2008 16:00

Well got round to doing some more work on the car today, was nice weather so I thought i'd take advantage of it. I have a shelter/garage thing but it's still nice to do it in the warmth.

Plan was to add another coat of paint to the underside, this would make 2 now. Another 2 to go before I seal it off, making sure I have not missed anything that needs painting. Some paint dripped onto the yellow though >.>, so thats going to need another couple of coats to cover the bloody black on it.

Before I did this though, I had a proper look at the engine bay as this will be getting started soon with the help of Alex who will be coming round to help me re-paint it all without breaking it :)

As you can see, problem areas have been identified and are due to be killed. While I was there I stripped all covers, strut brace and took the battery out. It's going to save me some time when it comes to re-painting it all. As you can see it's full of rust now so the only option open to me is to re-paint it, gives me a good excuse to get it looking nice and shiny again though so not really bothered.

While I was looking under the bonnet I gave the underside of the hood a quick wipe down, nice and shiny so alex had that painted at some point in it's life :D

While the car was in the air I took the oppurtunity to sort the exhuast out, clay barred all the crap off it (or as much as would come off) and gave it a good polish with some autosol.

That came up well;

Turns out the cats around here have taken a liking to climbing on the roof of the car, so need to find some deterant and spray it around the car lol... fucking hate cats.

Jimmy-Boy 5th June 2008 19:13

Aye it's a piper full system with a 3.5 outward rolled tip, my magnex on the green car fits like crap compared to the piper. Got to give piper credit for that :) snug as a bug.

Mr_suv 5th June 2008 19:51

stu-n-shell 5th June 2008 19:58

Jimmy-Boy 5th June 2008 22:57

FAQ did you need to cut a hole in the rear of the bumper to fit that?
