Fat Arms?

As above really.. How would be the best way to get rid?

I go swimming and jogging when i remember (not sure how that would affect my arms lol) , trying to eat sensibly but my arms are horrible :( and starting to get to me because i dont like wearing open sleave tops ect.

Thanks

Amiee

VTR_Craig 8th June 2008 21:35

swimmming is very good.

lots of bicep and tricep and shoulder exercises, low weight, high reps.

but remember certain places are just where fat accumulates

bullit 8th June 2008 21:35

high rep toning i would have thought with some dumbells, high reps and small weights.

biceps curls, triceps kickbacks etc ;)

Amiee 8th June 2008 21:36

Aye I shall remember that but there just nastily fat lol

Like maybe I should get some of them lil weight things?

What sort of excercises would you recommend?

Going to google how to do them lol

biteme 8th June 2008 21:43

rigghhhtt basically your best bet is to do longer workouts, as your body will use your ATP-PC sorts in the muscles for short sharp exercise, after than uses glucose and glycogen so try limit any of those intakes, carbohydrates similarly close after and then fats, exercised for 25 mins ish should get these going unless you have just eaten pasta or something lol. like above high reps minimum weight, things like the little weight wrist bands in every day work. just regulating your food to your activity for instance i eat much less sugary foods when on my holidays from work etc as i am currently less active. As although fatty food go to fat it can be minimal as much is passed through the body as its high energy to absorb these. most are absorbed when people "starve" i.e not eat for a day then eat the next day as the body recognizes this and absorbs more! also much of sugary unused glycogen maltose MILK bread chocolate! as the carbs (lactose glucose maltose etc) are easily converted into fatty storage but also this encourages the body to use the fat stores earlier on, as to the specific area at which your fat resides, for you your arms this is just a hormone thing usually but also a sex thing but it does not make any difference what parts you are working out you just need longer aerobic workouts!

i do personal training if you want a plan your welcome to pm me (free of course) still training!

hope this helps :geek:

Thanks Biteme. I actually starting to understand stuff haha

I am a really really fussy eater. So i do just not eat as sometimes its easier then when a do eat it be pasta or a sandwich or something.

I cut down on carbs for a month or so and lost a good amount along with excercise, just need to stick at it continually but as it becomes more routine I get bored of eating the same thing and go back to eating crap :(

But anyways back to the arms!! Going to get some of them small weights to take running with me.. as a start?

VTR_Craig 8th June 2008 21:57

Very very basic idea of what biteme said about using fats and carbs

At high intensity the body uses 100% carbs for energy as its easy to breakdown and use instantly for energy

at low intensity, the body uses fat for energy as its slower to breakdown but the body doesn't need it instantly, so it saves the carbs

Amiee 8th June 2008 22:03

So if less carbs, then body will use the fat?

VTR_Craig 8th June 2008 22:07

lower intensity exercise = mostly fat used for energy

higher intensity exercise = mostly carbs used for energy

or the other way of doing it is -

do a marathon as fast as you can from the start to the end - the body will use up all its carbs then have to use fat, it will use all that up then breakdown your muscles to use protein for energy.

usually a bad idea though

Amiee 8th June 2008 22:15

Sorry to be so dumb , Just this high and low intensity stuff is confusing me :s

VTR_Craig 8th June 2008 22:29

example of running/jogging

low intensity - slow jog, easy, heart rate about 130 bpm

high intensity - almost sprinting, working very hard, heart rate upto 200 bpm

FRATEone 8th June 2008 22:39

How could I add weight onto my arms...
My wrists are currently like twigs. Rep to a helpfull answer in PM or in topic :y:

Amiee 8th June 2008 22:39

Oh a understand now!

JimoVTR 8th June 2008 22:41

Wanking - obvious when you take a moment to think

Robin91 8th June 2008 23:35

I don't think you're right about that..

HIIT is said to use fat storage immediately, which would go completely against what you're saying, + it gives your metabolism a boost for 24 hours or so and burns more fat than SS cardio overall..

biteme 8th June 2008 23:55

all the information in my paragraph (very well explained by other posters since) is correct via recent published work have just taken my exams on it and am willing to go into more detail if someone wants to know!

oh to person who wants to build arms more i take it you mean forearms in which case get one of those squeeze apparatus (grip flex) and just sqeeze it all day its good lol i do it!

vtrkyle 10th June 2008 16:26

hiit is high intensity interval training so it aint all at a high intensity which is why it is used to lower fat levels.

so it doesnt go against what he has said

Jacko 10th June 2008 16:49

pics of the arms...

get some weights. there is a fly machine at my gym and i aways use this. really good for the shoulders and arms.

if your arms are just naturally big and you struggle to get rid of fat from them, then weights will atleast tone them up and make them look alot better and healthier but you've gotta keep on it. dont have to push yourself but just a bit every night will do the trick in time and you'll definitely start to notice a different in the shape within a few weeks.

biteme 11th June 2008 22:59

im sorry but it really gets to me that everyone is focusing on the arms.... its fat all systems use it regardless of where it is....

Tim_1 12th June 2008 00:22

no such thing as spot reduction, your just going to have to loose weight, you carnt just loose the fat on ur arms and keep it everywhere else. You can however loose weight as surgested so far in the thread, and also tone up the muscles in your arm, however if you dotn loose much weight they will just get bigger, as youll have more muscle under the fat.

Hiit is intervals of low and high intesity workout, i use it for the majority of my training, 2mins max speed, 2 mins just below normal, for 45 mins.

best method way of cutting weight for me, but again it effects everyone differently.

mr_mason 12th June 2008 09:10

How long do you go running for? and what do you go running?

Also when do you eat before exercising?

Nutrition can determine alot. For example if you have a bottle of lucozade before you go for a run, your body will use the Carb Sugars as a first resort of energy rather than the fat. This is because the sugars are easier to break down. Hence you can run for 30minutes and not burn much fat.

Fat can't be just burnt off in one place at a time unfortunately, however you can tone the muslce which helps give that defined look.

Suggestion

Do a light workout on the biceps and triceps (even work on shoulders and back if you want).

Use light(er) weights for about 20 reps.
4 to 5 sets per excercise.
Try and make the excerices last for between 30-45mins.

Once you have done this got for a run working at about 65%. This means do not training (run) intensively.

If you are aged between 20-25 I would suggest a 130bpm (heartrate) would be best suited.

Research shows that first thing in the morning is the best time to burn fat without breaking down as much muscle.

Recent research also shows after a workout (predominantly anaebolic) is also a good time to breakdown fat.

.

I know you cant just lose fat in one place.
But I was asking for ways I could concerntrate on my arms.
As for running...

I go running for min of 45 mins, usually around the roads nearby and through the woods, and swiming for hour an half, once/twice a week.

I usually eat when I get in, leave it a hour or two then go out for a run, or eat when I get back.

Going to invest in a cross trainer next month (when I get paid) as well as some slight weights to use on the arms.

Thanks for the advice :)

working out arms wont get rid of the fat any quicker than working out legs...... regardless..... low intensity = less fat.... high intensity = no affect on fat but will gain muscle...

Jimmy-Boy 13th June 2008 18:26

1-5k dumb bell set and have a look on sites for techniques.. hope this helps :)
