Tesco Value Food (and other budget brands)

What's your opinions on the budget brands?

I always used to assume they would be utter crap and tasteless because they are so cheap, but I have been enlightened!

Tesco Value Chicken Noodles - 8p - Tasty as!
Tesco Value Mini Swiss Rolls x 6 - 32p - Yum Yum
Tesco Value Chocolate - 27p for 150g, tastes almost as good as Dairy Milk
Tesco Value Lemonade - absolutely wonderful!
Tesco Value Apples/Bananas - whats the difference?
Tesco Value Orange/Apple Juice - tasty as!

I might yet become on of those people that has a shopping trolley full of Value goods - but there are some things you can't get away with buying cheapo goods:

Coke
Irn Bru
Baked Beans (Branston beans ONLY for me!)
Eggs (don't do battery hens, get ours from local farm, ALL double Yolk too!)
Crisps - Walkers or nothing!
Batteries

Are you a value-addict?

Saxo-Will 23rd June 2008 20:50

Just munched through a whole pack of tesco value chocolate sandwich bars (there version of the penguin)

taste the same imo

not really a fan of tesco value, but the normal tesco range is pretty good. there sausage rolls are nice :y:

Matty_VTR 23rd June 2008 20:50

Robin91 23rd June 2008 20:51

Noodles....8p..? Dare not imagine what sort of chemicals and shite is in them to get them at that price tbh.

Most of it might taste okay, but it's packed with shite.

davew 23rd June 2008 21:23

when me and the missus moved in together, we said we'd just buy value stuff to keep cost down

will never buy value meat again., all browna and stringy yuk :(

Jojobunbun 23rd June 2008 21:25

always buy value cards from tesco's, they always end up in the bin anyway!

saxo_ron 23rd June 2008 21:26

Food has got expensive and all of a sudden the value prices look tempting !! However meat appears way cheaper at the local butchers - thats where im going from now on for all my meat produce

Ashleyp 23rd June 2008 21:27

-Jason- 23rd June 2008 22:27

The "paint my car orange trust" by any chance

joemcevoy 23rd June 2008 22:28

i work at ASDA and so i eat ASDA value food all the time in the canteen. The ASDA value chocolate is the nicest chocolate every. 23p for a massive bar its good. There is a lot of value stuff that is top stuff and id buy all the time.

A point thats often made. All food must pass certain standards and so all foods are generally made in the same way with the same things. Asda also have removed all their artafical (sp?) colourings and perservatives in all their brand products so they are pretty good.

dynebaruk 23rd June 2008 22:29

Anything in tins and is value price will taste like crap. Value fruit all seems to be good to me.

wigansaxo 23rd June 2008 22:38

i think value foods are like any food, some teate gd and some taste shit! and value foods are a gd thing f your on a budget like i was when i was weldin at collage! me and some mates used to walk to netto i think it was and iceland next door, 99p for two pack of pancakes and that was my dinner sorted lol

ryhornvtr 23rd June 2008 22:40

Most of the value stuff is packaged by the big players. You get the same stuff but in different packaging.

Supermarket marketing departments have massive budgets for getting manufacturers to package their products in the supermarkets packaging

Say that after a few jars!!!

Yates 23rd June 2008 22:46

mike, the more i read about your life and on goings, the more chav i think you are...

wigansaxo 23rd June 2008 22:49

No point wasting money on something your going to shit anyway :D

steviet 23rd June 2008 22:58
